Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli was among several sportspersons who took to social media to express shock over the inhuman incident where a pregnant elephant was fed pineapple stuffed with firecrackers in Kerala.

The brutal incident of animal abuse took place in Kerala’s Palakkad district, which resulted in the death of the elephant while standing in the river.

“Appalled to hear about what happened in Kerala. Let’s treat our animals with love and bring an end to these cowardly acts,” Kohli said in a tweet from his Twitter handle.

Meanwhile animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as she questioned his silence over the issue.

The pachyderm in Kerala’s Silent Valley Forest fell victim to an act of human cruelty after the pineapple offered by a man exploded in her mouth when she chomped on it, a senior forest officer said. Her jaw was broken and she was unable to eat after she chewed the pineapple and it exploded in her mouth.

Officer Surendrakumar said the elephant died at Velliyar River in Malappuram district on May 27. He said the post-mortem revealed that the pachyderm was pregnant.

“Rahul Gandhi is from that area, why has he not taken action?” questioned Maneka Gandhi on Wednesday.

The Congress scion represents the constituency of Wayanad, which is adjoining the district of Malappuram.
Demanding the removal of the state forest secretary and the resignation of the forest minister, Maneka targeted the state government over the incident. “It’s a murder. Malappuram is famous for such incidents. It’s India’s most violent district.”

South actors like Rashmika Mandanna, Tamannaah Bhatia, and singer Chinmayi Sripada took to their social media handles to condemn the horrific act involving a 15-year-old elephant in Kerala who was reportedly pregnant.

Bollywood actors including Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma, John Abraham, Dia Mirza, Shraddha Kapoor and Disha Patani on Wednesday condemned the inhuman treatment meted out to pregnant elephant in Kerala.
.
Expressing shock over the tragic incident, the actors took to social media platforms and demanded stricter laws against animal cruelty.

Akshay Kumar put out the heart-wrenching picture of the dead body of the mother elephant, tied in strings after being pulled out from the water

Sometimes I’ll just take his jackets. Sometimes I just do it because he feels very happy when I wear his clothes,” Anushka told the magazine vogue india in an interview.

Talking about their vacation, the couple is in Bhutan to celebrate Indian cricket team skipper Virat’s birthday. As he turned 31 on Tuesday, the duo decided to spend his birthday week, away from the chaos and hustle-bustle of limelight. To make his birthday even more special, Anushka posted a love-filled note on social media along with pictures from their vacations. Calling Virat her blessing, friend, confidante and her one true love, the actress wrote, “I hope you find the light-guiding your path always and may you choose to do the right thing every time. Your compassion is what makes you a good leader and I pray that you always have that in abundance. Happy Birthday my love.”

Virat too shared pictures with Anushka and wrote, “What a blessing to be able to visit such divine places with my soulmate. Also thank you everyone for your kind wishes from the bottom of my heart.”

Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium has been renamed after former union minister and president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) Arun Jaitley, who died last month. The renaming of the stadium was done to honour the leader who served as DDCA president from 1999 to 2013. At the same function held at the Weightlifting Auditorium of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, a stand at Delhi’s famous cricket venue was named after India captain Virat Kohli. The Feroz Shah Kotla ground’s name, however, will remain unchanged.

After the virtual unveiling of the stand, Kohli thanked the DDCA, his team members and his childhood coach. While thanking his family, Kohli recalled an incident from 2001 when he had gone to watch a Test match against Zimbabwe with his brother.

“When I left home today, I told my family one anecdote…I remember getting a ticket to watch a game in 2001 at the stadium and asking for autographs from players… So today to have a pavilion in my name at the same stadium is surreal and a great honour,” Kohli said.

Earlier, DDCA president, Rajat Sharma had said that Virat Kohli is the best player in the world. When I decided to name a stand in honour of Virat Kohli, I told this first to Arun Jaitley ji. He told me this is a good decision because there is no better player than Virat in world cricket,” Rajat Sharma said during the event.
