In a significant step towards advancing integrated urban mobility, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has partnered with Airtel Payments Bank to launch co-branded RuPay ‘On-The-Go’ Cards, enabled with NCMC (National Common Mobility Cards). These cards will enable seamless, interoperable payments across metro systems, buses and other transit networks nationwide.

This announcement was made in a ceremony at the Delhi Metro headquarters attended by DMRC MD, Dr. Vikas Kumar, MD & CEO of Airtel Payments Bank Mr. Anubrata Biswas, and other senior officials from both the organisations.

The co-branded cards – Debit cards and PPI–MTS (Prepaid Payment Instrument for Mass Transit Systems) Cards – will allow commuters to pay for metro travel across multiple cities and transit systems using a single open-loop card. This represents a significant upgrade from existing DMRC-issued cards, which are limited to the Delhi Metro network. The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s ‘One Nation, One Card’ vision, aimed at simplifying and unifying transit payments across the country.

The cards will be available at all DMRC stations in the next 10 days, ensuring easy accessibility for commuters. In addition, users can recharge their cards digitally at any time through the DMRC app or the Airtel app, significantly reducing the need to queue at stations for top-ups.

Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd, said, “DMRC has consistently focused on adopting innovative solutions to enhance passenger convenience. This exclusive partnership with Airtel Payments Bank and the introduction of co-branded NCMC cards will enable seamless and interoperable travel for our commuters, not only within the Delhi Metro network but also across multiple transit systems nationwide.”

Mr. Anubrata Biswas, MD & CEO, Airtel Payments Bank, said, “Our partnership with DMRC reflects a shared vision to simplify and modernise urban mobility through secure, digital-first solutions. With the launch of the co-branded ‘On-the-Go’ NCMC cards, we are enabling commuters to experience seamless travel across transit systems, while advancing the larger ambition of ‘One Nation, One Card’ for India.”

Existing issued cards will continue to function as usual. DMRC will continue to further promote the sale of NCMC cards going forward.

This initiative marks a broader shift towards embedding digital payments seamlessly into everyday mobility, bringing together transit and banking to create a more integrated commuter experience.

NEW DELHI. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has teamed up with Airtel Payments Bank to introduce co-branded RuPay On-The-Go cards, a major step forward for integrated urban mobility in India. Launched at the DMRC headquarters by Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar and Airtel Payments Bank CEO Anubrata Biswas, these National Common Mobility Cards (NCMC) are designed to function as open-loop payment tools. This means commuters are no longer restricted to the Delhi Metro network; they can now use a single card to pay for travel on metros, buses, and various other transit systems nationwide, streamlining the daily commute for millions.

Aligned with the Government of India’s One Nation, One Card vision, the new offering includes both Debit and Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) options. These cards will be rolled out across all Delhi Metro stations within the next ten days, ensuring they are easily accessible to the general public. To further enhance user convenience and eliminate the need for physical queues, the cards support digital recharging through both the DMRC and Airtel mobile applications. While these new cards offer expanded utility, DMRC confirmed that existing metro cards will remain functional, though the focus will shift toward promoting NCMC technology for future commuters.

This partnership highlights a strategic shift toward merging banking services with public infrastructure to create a digital-first commuter experience. Dr. Vikas Kumar emphasized that the initiative is centered on passenger convenience, while Anubrata Biswas noted that the collaboration reflects a shared goal of modernizing urban travel through secure and simplified payment solutions. By embedding financial tools directly into the transit experience, the DMRC and Airtel Payments Bank are helping to build a more connected and efficient transportation landscape across the country.

Following the train ride, the children gathered at Metro Bhawan to take part in a drawing competition on the theme “Public Transport for a Better Tomorrow.” The competition inspired creativity while reinforcing the importance of environmentally friendly commuting options.

Adding to the vibrancy of the occasion, college students from Jesus and Mary College and Lady Hardinge Medical College performed street plays in front of these young children, highlighting the importance of public transport. Their performances served as a dynamic medium to engage the children directly and reinforce the message of sustainable travel in an interactive and memorable way.

In addition, digital banners were displayed across metro stations. These banners emphasized the importance of public transport and reminded commuters of their role in reducing congestion, pollution, and carbon emissions. Announcements regarding the same are also being made at all metro stations this week.

Through these initiatives, DMRC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting UITP’s vision of a better tomorrow. By engaging children, students, and commuters alike, the day inspired citizens to embrace public transport as a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable mode of travel.

NEW DELHI. With the inauguration of the final stretch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the entire 82.15-km Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat RRTS corridor along with the Meerut Metro has become fully operational, marking a historic milestone in India’s urban mobility journey. The mega project, developed at a cost of Rs 30,274 crore, has been completed within its scheduled time and budget. The corridor is the result of years of engineering efforts, financial planning and a commuter-focused approach.

Reflecting on my tenure as the first Managing Director of NCRTC, I am overwhelmed by the sheer resilience of the institution we built. Today, I am incredibly proud that the corridor will significantly improve daily travel by reducing the long and unpredictable road journey between Delhi and Meerut to a safe, comfortable and reliable 55-minute ride. The project is expected to boost regional connectivity and promote balanced urban development. Engineers, ground workers and partner agencies were credited for their dedication in delivering the world-class infrastructure, which is being seen as a major step towards transforming regional mobility in the country. By integrating the Meerut Metro on the same RRTS infrastructure, authorities saved around Rs 6,300 crore while enhancing public utility.

With the approval of Delhi Metro’s Phase V(A) corridors, the Central Secretariat Metro Station will emerge as a triple interchange facility, significantly enhancing network integration and passenger convenience across the National Capital Region.

Presently, the Central Secretariat station serves as an important interchange hub of Central Delhi serving as a junction between the Yellow and Violet lines. Thousands of office going persons who commute to the Central Delhi office areas use this vital metro station.

Now with the approval of Phase V (A), the Central Secretariat station will provide connectivity to Yellow Line, Violet line and the Magenta Line extension (Central Vista Corridor from R.K. Ashram Marg – Indraprastha). This will provide connectivity to all the Kartavya Bhawans, thereby providing doorstep connectivity to the office goers and visitors in this area. With this connectivity, around 60,000 office goers and 2 lakh visitors will benefit on a daily basis. This will further reduce pollution and usage of fossil fuels, enhancing ease of living.
