Centre Approves Appointment of 16 Officers as Joint Secretaries Across Ministries

Two officers – Hema Jaiswal (ISS) and Lokesh Kumar Sharma (IOFS) – have been appointed as Executive Directors in FCI, reflecting renewed focus on food management and public distribution. The appointments include officers from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and other All India and Central Services such as IRS, IRPS, IRTS, IOFS, ISS, and IA&AS, among others. Out of the 16 appointees, six are IAS officers, while others belong to allied services, reflecting the government’s effort to ensure a balanced representation from multiple cadres.

Shri Sonal Bajaj, IRS (C&IT:1998) – Appointed as Director (Finance), Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL), under the Department of Atomic Energy, Mumbai, for a tenure of five years or until further orders.

Shri Jai Prakash Pandey, IRPS (2003) – Appointed as Joint Director General (JS level), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Ministry of Civil Aviation, for a combined tenure of seven years up to February 2027.

Shri Brij Mohan Mishra, IAS (UT:2008) – Appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, for a tenure of five years up to November 2026.

Shri Neeraj Kharwal, IAS (UD:2007) – Appointed as Managing Director (JS level), India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), Department of Commerce, for a tenure of five years.

Shri Sudeep Shrivastava, IRSSE (2001) – Appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, for a tenure of five years.

Shri Siljo V.K., ISS (2004) – Appointed as Deputy Director General (DDG), Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), under the Ministry of Electronics & IT, for a tenure of five years.

Shri Manish Tiwari, IRTS (1995) – Appointed as Joint Secretary, Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA), under the Department of Food & Public Distribution, till his superannuation in September 2029.

Shri Lokesh Kumar Sharma, IOFS (1998) – Appointed as Executive Director, Food Corporation of India (FCI), Department of Food & Public Distribution, for a tenure of five years.

Hema Jaiswal, ISS (2004) – Appointed as Executive Director, Food Corporation of India (FCI), for a tenure of five years.

Shri Harsh Mangla, IAS (JH:2008) – Appointed as Joint Secretary, Department of Health & Family Welfare, for a tenure of five years up to January 2027.

Shri Gaya Prasad, ISS (1996) – Appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, till July 2028.

Shruti Singh, IAS (PB:2004) – Appointed as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, for a tenure of five years.

Roli Shukla Malge, IA&AS (2002) – Appointed as Financial Advisor & Chief Accounts Officer (FA & CAO), Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Ministry of Labour & Employment, for five years.

Shri Rajendra Kumar Agrawal, IRPS (2000) – Appointed as Additional Secretary (JS level), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), under the Department of Personnel & Training, till his superannuation in September 2030.

Shri Jai Prakash Shivhare, IAS (GJ:2002) – Appointed as Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, for a tenure of five years.

Shri Vikas Gupta, IAS (HY:2001) – Appointed as Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), under the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, for a tenure of five years.

UIDAI Launches SITAA To Counter Deepfakes, Enhance Aadhaar Authentication Security

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched SITAA (Scheme for Innovation and Technology Association with Aadhaar) to enhance the security of India’s digital identity system against threats like deepfakes, spoofing, and presentation attacks. The initiative invites startups, academia, and industry players to develop innovative solutions in biometric verification, AI, and data privacy, with applications open until November 15. Strategic partners MeitY Startup Hub and NASSCOM will offer mentoring, incubation, and industry outreach to support these efforts.

SITAA’s pilot phase focuses on three key challenges: developing face liveness detection SDKs to prevent spoofing, creating advanced AI/ML-based presentation attack detection solutions, and designing contactless fingerprint authentication tools using smartphones or low-cost devices. These projects aim to make Aadhaar authentication more secure, scalable, and future-proof, aligning with India’s goals of building a trusted digital infrastructure and reducing dependency on foreign technology. Interested participants can submit their proposals via the MSH portal.

UIDAI Asks Schools Across The Country To Complete Aadhaar Biometric Updates Of Children Aged 5 To 15 Years Without Delay

The Unique Identification Authority of India- UIDAI has asked schools across the country to ensure timely Aadhaar Mandatory Biometric Updates-MBU for Children in the age group of 5 to 15 years. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has also written to all the Chief Secretaries of States and Union Territories regarding this and requested them to support in conducting targeted MBU camps. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said in a statement that UIDAI and the Ministry of Education have also collaborated to facilitate pending MBU in Aadhaar on the Unified District Information System for Education Plus platform for nearly 17 Crore Children.

Unified District Information System for Education Plus is an educational management information system under the Department of School Education and Literacy, and captures various statistics related to school education. This joint initiative from UIDAI and the Department of School Education is expected to go a long way towards providing ease of updating the biometrics of children.

He added that the journey itself is a testament to its scalability and the country’s digital readiness.

Face Authentication System allows people to verify their identity instantly using just their face no need for documents or physical contact. It’s secure, fast, and can be used anytime, anywhere. It’s helping people across India, from remote villages to busy cities, access services more easily. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the organization behind Aadhaar, has been working closely with government departments, banks, and service providers to promote the use of face authentication.

Aadhaar card: Deadline to free update extended

The deadline to update Aadhaar details for free has been extended by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) by three months, from June 14 to September 14, 2023.

Till 14 September 2023, you can update and upload your proof of identity and proof of address documents for free online.

However, post the deadline, updating details of your Aadhaar card will cost rs 50.

Free updates should be done online at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and updates at Govt authorized Common Service Centers will be charged Rs 25 as usual.

Now 125 Crore Residents of India have Aadhaar

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced a new milestone achieved by the Aadhaar project – crossing of the 125 crore mark. This means that over 1.25 billion residents of India have the 12-digit unique identity.

The achievement comes along with the rapidly increasing use of Aadhaar as the primary identity document by the Aadhaar holders. This is evident from the fact that Aadhaar-based authentication services have been used close to 37,000 crore times since inception. At present UIDAI receives about 3 crore authentication requests every day.

Also, residents are more inclined on keeping their details in Aadhaar updated. UIDAI recorded close to 331 crore successful Aadhaar updates (biometric and demographic) till date. At present UIDAI receives about 3-4 lakh Aadhaar updates request every day.
