BJP leader Ashish Shelar said Fadnavis will offer a stable and strong government.”With Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar having taken oath, there is a sense of happiness and positivity among people,” he said.

Shelar said governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has given time till November 30 to the new government to prove its most on the floor of the House.

The BJP has made a plan in which 4 of their major leaders will play a key role in achieving 145 mark in the Maharashtra Assembly. These leaders will be — Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Ganesh Naik, Narayan Rane and Babanrao Lonikar.

The reason for choosing these four leaders is that Vikhe Patil and Rane are former members of the Congress party and would be familiar with some of the MLAs from the INC while Babanrao and Ganesh  Naik are former members of the NCP and could be helpful there. 

Meanwhile Amit Shah has appointed Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal to sort out the political mess. These leaders will join Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrakant Patil in handling the turbulence.

Vinay Kore, an independent MLA supporting BJP, after meeting with Ajit Pawar made an interesting comment. He said: “We can see that two factions have formed in NCP. We will get to know during the floor test who has the bigger faction, how many people are with Ajit Pawar, how many are with Sharad Pawar, and whether those two are in this together.”

But Uddhav seems to have no doubts about Sharad Pawar. He told a gathering of Sena MLAs at hotel Lalit: ‘‘The RSS is still trying to contact us, but it is too late now. “We need not worry as Sharad Pawar is standing firmly with us. All three of us are fighting this together.”

NCP leader Dhananjay Munde, who was also with Ajit during his oath-taking ceremony, has said he is with the uncle and would stay with the party. In a tweet, Munde said, “I am with party, I am with Pawar saheb. Please don’t spread rumours.”

Ajit Pawar has joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday and took oath as Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra along with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Shiv Sena’s acceptance to share the coveted post with NCP is seen as yet another attempt by both the parties to keep Sena-NCP-Congress intact.

Meanwhile senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that November 23 was a “black Saturday” and maintained that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (the Sena, the Congress, the NCP) still had a majority with 165 legislators.

Mr. Raut said, “NCP chief Sharad Pawar is a national leader, if the BJP is trying to break his party, this will boomerang on the BJP. Even before the Assembly election, there was trying to break the NCP when the BJP poached people from the NCP. Poaching Ajit Pawar was their last move which has boomeranged.

They were expecting around 25 MLAs to support Ajit Pawar. I hope the BJP has come out of that delusion now. Nearly all the NCP MLAs have returned, barely five MLAs may have stayed, and in return of five MLAs, the BJP has given Ajit Pawar Deputy CM place? They were supposed to be good at business but now are struggling,” said Mr. Raut.

During the hearing in the apex court, the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena had demanded that the SC order an immediate floor test so that the BJP can prove it has the numbers. The three parties also accused Governor Koshyari of being bias and stressed that the lifting of President’s Rule was “shrouded in mystery”.

Hinting at the reason for the allies to part ways, Raut explained that at times some relationships need to be ended to uphold self-respect.

The BJP and Shiv Sena ended their alliance after a bitter tussle over power-sharing in the state. Sena had demanded a coalition government under 50:50 formula, including a rotational chief minister. The BJP, however, rejected the proposal and after days of discussion, Uddhav Thackeray’s party decided to end the alliance.

“We did not talk about forming the government with anyone. We discuss only the political situation. We did not talk about going ahead with someone,” Pawar said but insider said Sonia agreed to go ahead and asked for more clarification on common minimum program to be made.

Prior to his meeting with Sonia, Sharad Pawar met Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut in Delhi. The 15-minute meeting between Raut and Pawar took place at Pawar’s 6, Janpath residence.

The NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena leaders are said to be in touch with each other over forming a coalition government in Maharashtra after the snapping of ties of between BJP and Shiv Sena over the chief minister’s post.

Sources claim that the Congress and the NCP are willing to support the Shiv Sena to form the government but the two parties are yet to give any concrete assurance to Uddhav Thackeray’s party.

Congress sources said that Sonia Gandhi wants a commitment from Sena that the party will give up its hardline Hindutva agenda before giving support to Uddhav Thackeray-led party to form the government.

The NCP is also engaged in hectic parleys with both the Congress and Shiv Sena leaders but its chief Pawar is still non-committal on supporting the Shiv Sena-led government in Maharashtra.

NCP leader Nawab Malik today said, “The rift between Shiv Sena and BJP was over the CM post. So we are not going to contest for the CM post. The CM will be from Shiv Sena.” Sena, however, has yet not taken a call on whether party chief Uddhav Thackeray will be the CM or will the party nominate someone else for the post. Sena legislature party leader Eknath Shinde is said to be another contender if Uddhav decides to stay out of the government.

The Shiv Sena has apparently sought for a 16-14-12 formula with NCP and Congress. The development comes three days after President’s rule was imposed in the state after Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari in a report to the Centre stated that formation of a stable government was impossible in the current situation despite all his efforts, drawing flak from non-BJP parties.

In a fresh development, sources said that Shiv Sena is adamant on chief ministerial post for the party for all five years, while NCP may propose for 50-50 sharing of the position. Talks can take place on this as well, a source said, adding that issues related to common minimum program has been sorted and consensus has been “broadly reached upon”.

A source said that Congress does not want to give impression it had gone soft on Sena. Instead it wants to give out a message it was the Uddhav Thackeray-led that approached it. The source added that between NCP and Congress, the UPA allies want six key ministries, including revenue, urban development and home.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai on Friday, Sanjay Raut was seen carefully choosing his words while talking on the tussle over CM post. “We want a Sena CM for the next 25 years. Why should we be thinking of just five years? We are here in Maharashtra and we will always be with the state,” he said.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar are likely to meet in Delhi on November 17 to discuss possible alliance with the Shiv Sena for forming government in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile union minister ARVIND SAWANT will resign from cabinet. Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh  Koshiyari on Sunday invited the Shiv Sena to form the government after the BJP, the single largest party in the state legislature, declined the Governor’s invitation to form the government.

The invitation has been extended to Eknath Shinde, leader of the Shiv Sena in the state legislature. The Sena is the second largest party in the Maharashtra Assembly after the BJP.

Shiv Sena leaders say they have received the support of the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress party to form the government in Maharashtra.

While the NCP has agreed to join the coalition with the Shiv Sena, the Congress is still in two minds with a section of party demanding that it extend outside support to the coalition but stay out of the government. “We are still discussing all options,” former Congress Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told reporters late this evening.

“The next chief minister of Maharashtra will come from the Shiv Sena,” Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray told the legislators hours before Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declined the Governor’s invitation to the BJP.

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut told reporters that his party did not have any enmity with the Congress party.

“The Congress is not the enemy of the people. All parties have differences in ideology and various issues,” Raut said.

Earlier today, the core committee of the BJP’s state unit at a meeting concluded that it would not be able to get the support of the Shiv Sena to form the government under the leadership of incumbent Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday announced that it would not form government in Maharashtra in view of the ally Shiv Sena’s stand to not join them in the efforts.

Announcing the BJP’s decision, Maharashtra BJP president Chandrakant Patil accused the Uddhav Thackeray-led party, which is adamant on its demand for a rotational chief ministership, of “disrespecting” the popular mandate secured by the BJP and the Sena in recent Assembly polls.

“The mandate of the people of Maharashtra was for the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. Sena has, however, disrespected the mandate, hence we have decided to not stake claim to form government. We have informed our decision to governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari,” Patil told reporters outside Raj Bhavan.

He wished “good luck” to the Sena if it wanted to form the government with the help of Opposition Congress and NCP.

The BJP and the Sena had together won 161 seats in the 288-member House, way above the halfway mark of 145.

Dvendra Fadnavis, addressing the press conference said, “Maybe there was a prior understanding in the Shiv Sena that the party must try to join the Congress and NCP after the results. Our doors for communications have always been open, but the Shiv Sena took a stand of cutting off talks with the BJP but continuing discussions with the Congress and NCP.”

“I will not say anything about Uddhav Thackeray, but the statements being made by the party leaders around him have been disappointing. We also have the ability to reply to all these statements, but that is not what the people expect from us.”

“We have never said anything against Shiv Sena stalwart Bal Thackeray, even when we contested against the party in 2014, but in the last ten days they have made comments against the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that is disappointing.

“Shiv Sena is not an Opposition party, but an ally of the BJP in the Centre and the state, and such statements from them are not acceptable to us. Even Congress or any Opposition party has not criticised Modi like the Shiv Sena has in the last ten days.”

Devendra Fadnavis, addressing a press conference amid the power tussle with the Shiv Sena, said that Uddhav Thackeray’s statement on the day of the results when he said that ‘all options were available to form the government’, was “shocking”.

“People have voted for the Mahayuti government together, but now allies are looking for their own interests. I want to make one thing clear about their demand for a rotational chief minister, that I have no knowledge of such an understanding or deal between the two parties. If Uddhav Thackeray has spoken to Amit Shah in my absence, then I am not aware of it.

“Whatever the issues were, they should have been resolved by talks, but that has not happened. In the past five years, there has been mutual respect between the allies, but now Uddhav Thackeray has not taken my calls,” Fadnavis said.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, addressing a press conference soon after submitting his resignation from the post to the Maharashtra governor, said that he was grateful to the electorate and his colleagues for the governance made possible in the first term of the government under him.

He lauded the Cabinet, administration, and officials for the work done for the development of the state, including implementing schemes for roads and the Metro project. He also thanked the BJP’s allies, under the umbrella of Mahayuti alliance which includes the Republican Party of India (RPI).

Negotiations on government formation have dragged on for the 13th day since the election results were announced. At a meeting held this morning, Sena MLAs passed a resolution, authorising Uddhav Thackeray to take a “final decision” on government formation in Maharashtra.

Earlier in the morning, Raut said there have been no talks yet between RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Uddhav Thackeray on government formation in the state. He also expressed confidence that MLAs of the Sena, and the opposition Congress and NCP “would not cross sides”.

The BJP should show it has 145 MLAs in its support and form the government, he said. “When you say the mandate is for ‘Mahayuti’, the mandate is also for what was agreed upon when the alliance was formalised. The mandate is for having a Shiv Sena chief minister,” he said.

Raut criticised state minister and BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar for saying that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is “like a Shiv Sainik”. “If you think you are from the Shiv Sena, behave like one. For the Shiv Sena, the given word is very important. For us it is like ‘pran jaaye par vachan na jaaye’ (promise has greater value than life),” he said.

The Sena, has claimed that the BJP had agreed to a 50:50 power share in the state ahead of the general elections. the Sena claimes a rotational system for the Chief Minister’s post and half the state’s ministerial berths.

In his letter to Mohan Bhagwat, Mr Tiwari said the state has delivered a mandate in favour of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. But the BJP’s failure to follow ‘coalition dharma’ is delaying the formation of new government in Maharashtra. Therefore, the RSS “should intervene and resolve the issue,” the letter read.

There has been no response from the RSS but a Nagpur based and RSS supported news paper TARUN BHARAT targeted shivsena for power tussel . Without naming Sanjay Raut, “Tarun Bharat”, said the leader was hurting the chances of BJP-Sena alliance to come to power in Maharashtra.

The pro-right wing daily also called him a “joker” and said “his attempts to portray a picture that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is isolated in the BJP is nothing but pure entertainment.”

Sanjay Raut, the Sena’s Rajya Sabha member and executive editor of its mouthpiece “Saamana”, has been at the forefront of voicing his party’s demands over equal distribution of power and sharing of the chief minister’s post with the BJP in the next Maharashtra government.

The Marathi daily published an editorial titled “Uddhav and Betaal” today which said: “Late Balasaheb Thackeray spent his entire life for wresting power from the Congress and NCP. But this Betaal is
trying hard to shatter his dreams and there will be no disappointment like this to see the Sena dragging behind one loud-mouth.”

Furious with the lack of response from the BJP camp, the Sena has even announced that it was ready to go with Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress to form government.

Even after a meeting between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP chief Amit Shah, the BJP has not issued response. After the meeting on Monday morning, Mr Fadnavis told reporters that there is a need to form the government in Maharashtra at the earliest and it would be formed.

There was no word on how the BJP would go about it or on any negotiation with the Sena.
