Enhancing driver wellbeing through safe sanitation and accessible public facilities

Bengaluru, 20 November, 2025: Uber, India’s leading ridesharing platform, and Sulabh International, a pioneer in sanitation and social reform, have come together on World Toilet Day to provide free access to clean and safe public toilets, promoting hygiene and comfort for Uber drivers.

The partnership will enable Uber drivers to use Sulabh operated public toilets free of charge across nine cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. The initiative is aimed at improving hygiene and wellbeing for those who spend long hours on the road, reinforcing both organizations’ shared commitment to dignity, inclusion and public health, while supporting the broader objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Uber drivers can avail this benefit by presenting their Uber registration ID on the driver app at Sulabh operated facilities. All locations are maintained by Sulabh to ensure cleanliness, regular upkeep, and the availability of essential sanitation supplies. Recognizing the unique needs of women drivers, 50 Sulabh toilet complexes will also be equipped with sanitary pad vending machines and incinerators, enabling access to free sanitary products and proper waste disposal.

Commenting on the partnership, Amit Deshpande, Head, City Operations, Uber India and South Asia, said, “For drivers who spend much of their day on the road, access to clean and safe sanitation is a basic yet critical need. Our collaboration with Sulabh International reflects Uber’s continued effort to improve everyday work conditions for drivers, while contributing to the Swachh Bharat Mission.”

Kumar Dilip, President, Sulabh International, said, “We appreciate Uber’s effort to prioritise the dignity and comfort of drivers on its platform. Sulabh has always worked to make sanitation accessible and inclusive, and through this initiative, we are extending these essential facilities to millions of drivers on the Uber platform across key cities. This collaboration supports better hygiene, greater convenience, and contributes to a healthier, more dignified workforce.”

This partnership highlights the power of collective action between technology and social innovation by bringing together Uber’s reach and Sulabh’s expertise to make access to sanitation a basic right, not a privilege, for those who keep India moving.

Bangalore, October 31, 2025 – Uber today shared key trends for Uber Courier and Uber Courier XL this festive season, marking the highest-ever demand for the delivery products. As consumers across Indian cities increasingly turn to Uber for everyday and festive deliveries, the company announced plans to expand Uber Courier to over 10 new cities in 2026.

Available already in 25 cities across India, Uber Courier and Courier XL continue to see rapid adoption, offering fast, reliable, and convenient delivery solutions for everything from gifts to essentials. Powered by Uber’s global technology and local reliability, the products are reshaping how India moves packages.

Speaking on the growth of Uber Courier, Shiva Shailendran, Director – Consumer Growth, Uber India and South Asia said, “Uber Courier is redefining convenience by giving people a simple, reliable way to move what matters to them. From festive gifts to daily essentials, users are trusting us with deliveries that truly count. The strong growth we’re seeing reflects how deeply these products are resonating with our users and how they’ve become part of everyday life.”

During the festive period, Uber Courier, already Uber’s fastest-growing category, saw a sharp rise in usage for both daily and seasonal deliveries. Common items included food, clothes, medicines, and small electronics, underscoring how embedded the service has become in day-to-day life. Deliveries peaked around Diwali and Rakhi, with the busiest hours being between 11 AM and 4 PM as users preferred convenient daytime slots to send gifts and essentials on festive days.

The product creates additional earning opportunities, with half of all Uber Bike drivers completing Courier trips. Alongside drivers, Uber Courier also provides small and medium businesses with a quick, hassle-free way to reach their customers and strengthen their connection through reliable, on-demand deliveries.

Uber Courier XL, built for larger and bulkier items, also saw strong traction this festive season. The most common items sent included sports equipment, crockery, furniture, textiles, hardware, and large stationery shipments. Deliveries for both Courier and Courier XL peaked on Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays ahead of Diwali, underscoring how people were extensively tapping into the service to make deliveries.

Limited Edition Pilot expanded to more cities after massive response to new Intercity Travel offering in Delhi

Bangalore, October 9, 2025: After a highly successful pilot in Delhi NCR, Uber today announced the expansion of its limited-edition Intercity Motorhomes campaign to Mumbai, Bangalore, and Pune. The offering, which lets riders book custom-designed, caravan-styled Motorhomes for outstation road trips, will also continue in Delhi NCR till December 31, 2025.

Riders in Mumbai, Bangalore and Pune will be able to book Intercity Motorhome trips starting October 15, with bookings opening on October 13. The product continues to be live in Delhi-NCR with bookings open.

Introduced in August this year to promote outstation travel through Uber Intercity, the Motorhomes campaign saw exceptional traction among riders looking for comfort-first, private travel experiences. The one-month pilot in the National Capital during the monsoon travel season had 100% occupancy on all days, with enquiries pouring in from other cities too. The extension and expansion of the campaign reflect the strong appetite for flexible and premium long-distance road travel options in India.

Speaking on the announcement, Shiva Shailendran, Director – Consumer Growth, Uber India and South Asia, said, “Uber Intercity has become a preferred choice for riders who want dependable, comfortable, and easy travel between cities. The growing popularity of Intercity shows how people are embracing road travel for quick getaways, family visits, and business trips alike. With the continued success of our campaign and the expansion to more cities, we’re further strengthening Intercity’s position as the go-to option for long-distance travel across India.”

The October to December period marks one of the busiest times for outstation travel in India, driven by festive celebrations, weddings, and the pleasant autumn and winter weather. Cooler temperatures and clearer skies make it ideal for weekend getaways and road trips, while the holiday season brings families and friends together across cities. This period consistently sees a surge in demand for comfortable, flexible, and reliable intercity travel options.

Each Intercity Motorhome comes equipped with amenities such as a television, microwave, mini-refrigerator, and lavatory, offering riders a private, lounge-like experience on wheels. The vehicles seat 4–5 passengers comfortably and include both a driver and helper to assist throughout the trip.

As with all Uber Intercity rides, Motorhome trips can be booked in advance through Reserve, with the ability to add stops along the way, track the ride in real time, and access 24×7 live support. Given the high demand, Intercity Motorhomes need to be booked at least 48 hours ahead of the planned trip.

Uber Intercity today stands as India’s largest organised outstation mobility product, connecting travelers across more than 3,000 routes spanning the length and breadth of the country. By bringing together the reliability of app-based travel with the flexibility of long-distance road journeys, Intercity has created a trusted alternative to traditional taxi operators and unorganised travel options.

The continued expansion of Intercity, supported by innovative campaigns like Motorhomes, reflects Uber’s commitment to shaping the future of outstation travel in India with greater convenience, transparency, and comfort. The Intercity Motorhomes campaign continues to highlight how Uber’s technology can make long-distance road travel more flexible, comfortable, and enjoyable for all.

Enhances Passenger Mobility with Seamless Pickups and Dedicated Support Infrastructure

Bengaluru, 23 September, 2025: Uber, India’s leading ride-hailing platform, today announced its partnership with Indian Railways at Ahmedabad Railways Station and Howrah Railway Station, marking the first-ever railway station integrations by a ride-haling platform in India.

This collaboration aims to improve passenger connectivity at major transportation hubs, and marks a significant step in Uber’s ongoing commitment to improving multimodal mobility and simplifying how people get to and from the railway stations.

Ranked as the 7th largest station in India, Ahmedabad Railway Station currently serves over 1.2 lakh passengers daily, with capacity projected to grow to over 3 lakh passengers per day by 2053. Howrah Railway Station, India’s largest and a vital entry point to Eastern India, serves over 10 lakh passengers daily, making it one of the country’s busiest transportation hubs. These collaborations mark Uber’s first-ever assisted operations at railway stations in India, setting a new benchmark for integrated urban mobility.

Shiva Shailendran, Director of Consumer Growth & Categories at Uber India and South Asia, commented on the partnership, “Our exclusive collaboration with Indian Railways at Ahmedabad and Howrah Railway Stations is a step forward in strengthening urban mobility infrastructure and ensuring reliable connectivity for millions of travellers. By integrating Uber’s technology with key public transport hubs, we are working towards building a seamless, multimodal transportation ecosystem that simplifies how people move across cities.”

To enhance passenger experience, Uber operates from dedicated parking areas connected directly to station infrastructure, ensuring smooth access for riders and drivers alike. In Ahmedabad, Uber has a dedicated parking area on an elevated section linked to the station’s main foot-over bridge, while in Howrah, Uber has established designated kiosks to manage the high volume of railway passenger traffic. Both locations feature on-ground teams and rider support to assist throughout the journey.

With these partnerships, Uber drivers in both these cities will benefit from increased trip opportunities at the stations, enhancing their overall earning potential. By combining well-planned infrastructure with real-time assistance, Uber aims to offer a convenient, stress-free, and reliable mobility experience for travellers.

Bengaluru, June 5, 2025 – Uber today released key 2024 trends for Uber Reserve, its pre-scheduled ride option, showing a sharp rise in usage across Indian cities as more riders explore the advance-travel-booking feature. With bookings growing close to 200% year-on-year, Reserve is becoming the preferred choice for riders looking for reliability, especially for odd-hour airport trips, festival travel, and business commutes.

Nearly one in four airport drop-offs now happen via Reserve, showing growing demand for certainty when timing matters most, with Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai leading in usage. Airport drop-offs were the primary use case for Reserve during 2024, with as much as 40% of overall Reserve trips ending at an airport.

Beyond the airport use case, spikes in Reserve bookings were observed during wedding seasons, exam dates, and major festivals like Diwali, Eid, and Christmas, where the usage increased almost 15% ahead of public holidays. Intercity travel using Reserve also rose significantly, up 40% during the Diwali festive period, and close to 30% over long weekends during 2024.

Speaking on the growth of the product, Shweta Mantri, Head of Rider Verticals, Uber India and South Asia, said: “Riders are telling us what they value most – reliability, flexibility, and peace of mind. Uber Reserve is helping them take more control of their time and their travel. Whether it’s for a flight, a meeting, or a family celebration, Reserve is becoming the preferred choice for planned journeys across India.”

Riders have the option to book Reserve trips up to 90 days in advance, and in one case, a rider booked their trip as early as 89 days ahead, reflecting the faith they put in their trusted ride option. The average lead time for Reserve bookings was 9 hours during 2024. Popular Reserve time slots included 4-6 AM for flights, and 7-10 AM for office commutes.

Reserve trips made through Uber for Business rose 140% year-on-year, and now make up a tenth of all Reserve bookings – a sign that working professionals are increasingly opting for more control and certainty with pre-scheduled transport.

In terms of product adoption, Chennai led the charge during 2024, with the highest proportion of the overall trips being reserved ahead, followed by Bangalore and Hyderabad. With growing momentum across use cases and cities, Uber Reserve is poised to play a larger role in how India plans its travel. As rider expectations evolve, Uber remains committed to building solutions that offer greater control, reliability, and peace of mind.

Bengaluru, May 6, 2025: Uber, one of India’s leading ride-hailing apps, has partnered with Nike for its After Dark Tour (ADT) — a new, first-ever unique nighttime run in Mumbai. Uber is the as the official ride partner for ADT, reaffirming its commitment to making mobility safer and more accessible for women, especially after dark. Nike’s ADT run is set to be the biggest 10K ever in India and is designed to champion female runners, and the running community.

The partnership is rooted in a powerful insight: as women increasingly own their time for work, fitness or fun – safety concerns still keep many from stepping out after hours. According to a recent consumer survey conducted by Uber among women riders across major metros, 85% of women said they’ve skipped or cancelled a night outing due to transport or safety concerns, with women especially likely to modify their plans based on how safe they feel returning home.

Built on this need for trusted, safe, and convenient mobility, Uber’s collaboration with Nike invites young Indians – especially women – to embrace the night with confidence, not compromise. As the official ride partner for the After Dark Tour in Mumbai, Uber will support attendees with safe, reliable transport options throughout the event whether it is reaching the After Dark Tour venue to run the race or getting home post the event after-party.

As women increasingly take charge of their own schedules – dependable night-time transportation is non-negotiable. 79% said they feel safer using ridesharing apps than other modes of transport at night, and among Uber users, over 94% women agreed that ride-hailing has made it easier to make spontaneous decisions to go out after dark.

Shiva Shailendran, Director, Consumer & Growth, Uber India and South Asia, said, “We’re proud to partner with Nike to power the After Dark Tour. Women shouldn’t have to plan their lives around safety concerns — they should feel empowered to step out whenever they choose. As the official ride partner, Uber is helping make the night feel accessible again – by supporting safe, reliable mobility that meets women where they are.”

“The After Dark Tour Mumbai is a race designed for female runners — it’s about connection, celebration and confidence. The partnership with Uber is aiming to help women runners feel confident getting to and from the race. Together, we’re working to create a race experience that brings women to the forefront and fosters a sense of belonging and connection,” said Tarundeep Singh, GM Nike India.

According to Uber’s survey, the features that most contribute to a sense of safety at night include live GPS tracking (70.8%), emergency button access, and verified driver profiles. These trusted features, combined with Uber’s focus on safety innovation, make it a preferred choice for late-evening travel.

Additional survey insights:

● 85% of women have skipped or cancelled night plans due to transportation or safety concerns.

● 79% said they feel safer using ridesharing apps compared to other modes of transport at night.

● 94% of Uber users said ride-hailing makes it easier to make spontaneous decisions to go out after dark.

● 88% of Uber users said these apps enabled them to pursue social, work, or fitness opportunities at night they might have otherwise avoided.

● 70.8% cited live GPS tracking as the top safety feature.

The impact of safe and reliable mobility goes far beyond nightlife. According to an Oxford Economics study commissioned by Uber, 4 in 10 working women said ride-hailing helped them join the workforce, and 75% cited safety as the top reason for choosing ride-hailing. In fact, access to mobility could increase the female workforce by over 6% by 2028 in India’s top five cities. These insights reaffirm Uber’s belief that safety and freedom of movement are foundational to women’s empowerment.

Bengaluru, March 19, 2025: Uber, India’s leading ridesharing company, is ramping up safety for two-wheeler riders and drivers with new technology-led safety features and the distribution of 3,000 safety kits across the country.

As part of the first phase, select Uber Moto drivers in Delhi received safety kits comprising helmets, reflective vests, safety stickers, and protective gear today from Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and Corporate Affairs, Shri Harsh Malhotra. In addition, Uber plans to introduce AI-powered Helmet Selfies for drivers and in-app ‘helmet nudges’ for riders to improve helmet adoption. Women Rider Preference, a first-of-its-kind feature allowing female drivers to filter for female riders, will now be extended to Moto rides.

Bike taxis have become a preferred mobility option due to their affordability, convenience, and ability to navigate traffic. According to the India Economic Impact Report 2024, compiled by UK-based Public First, Uber Auto and Moto contributed INR 36,000 crore to the economy in 2024. A KPMG report titled “Unlocking the potential of bike taxis in India” estimates the sector could create 5.4 million flexible livelihood opportunities in India by 2030, reinforcing its growing significance.

Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and Corporate Affairs, Shri Harsh Malhotra, said: “India is among the world’s largest two-wheeler markets, and ensuring road safety is our shared responsibility. Helmet compliance is a major factor in saving lives from road accidents involving two-wheelers. Uber’s proactive efforts to enhance road safety with tech-driven features like Helmet Selfies and nudges are commendable. Safety kits with helmets and protective gear will keep drivers and riders safe. These efforts need to be scaled further, and we hope that similar initiatives will be adopted by other companies too.”

Manish Bindrani, Head of Regional Supply Growth, Uber India & South Asia, added: “Uber Moto is one of the fastest-growing segments for Uber, loved for its affordability, ability to cut through traffic and easy integration with public transport. Today, the total number of two- and three-wheeler trips on Uber has surpassed car rides. With new safety features and the distribution of safety kits, we are reinforcing our commitment to safer roads while supporting drivers with flexible earning opportunities.”

New Safety Features for Uber Moto

Helmet Selfies for Drivers: This industry-first AI-powered feature ensures compliance with helmet use. Drivers are periodically prompted to take a selfie wearing a helmet before starting a trip. If the helmet is missing, they will not be able to begin the trip.

Helmet Nudges for Riders: Moto trips will begin with an in-app reminder prompting riders to wear a helmet before starting their journey. This will encourage riders to use helmets during rides and stay safe.

Women Rider Preference (WRP): Initially launched for cars, WRP will now extend to Moto rides, allowing female drivers to filter for only female riders, when they want to. This option will give female drivers peace of mind and flexibility, particularly during late hours.

Beyond these new initiatives, every Moto trip on Uber is backed by key safety features, including a 24×7 Safety Line, an in-app emergency button, phone number anonymization, and RideCheck, which detects long stops, midway-drops and route deviations, prompting Uber to check in with the rider and driver. These efforts reinforce Uber’s commitment to making two-wheeler mobility safer, more reliable, and accessible to millions of Indians.
