It is noteworthy that the TS#1 has been installed to implement the Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) in RSP to meet the guidelines of Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change as well as to adhere to the NGT directive not to discharge any untreated effluent to natural water streams/rivers.

The TS-1 system consolidates and treats wastewater from 13 distinct areas within the plant, ensuring that it meets the stringent quality standards required for industrial make-up water. The facility has the capacity to treat 1,800 cubic meters of effluent per hour coming from Outfall-1 near Modernisation Bridge, recycling it for use in Construction Pump House and JUSCO Pump House. The system incorporates primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment processes to achieve the desired make-up water quality. Operation and Maintenance (O&M) for 5 years is also included in the scope of work of the project.

The key benefits envisaged from the ambitious project include Effective treatment and recycling of wastewater for industrial use, Reduced dependency on fresh raw water from the River Brahmani, Utilisation of RO reject water for slag spraying in SMS-2, lowering industrial water requirements and Significant reduction in RSP’s specific water consumption.

The important sustainability Project has been implemented by Project department of RSP with help from Water Management Department, Power Distribution, Steel Melting Shop-II, and various other departments. M/s Arvind Envisol is the contractor and M/s MECON has provided consultancy for the project.
