THDC India Achieves Major Milestone at Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Project

TEHRI. THDC India Limited successfully lowered and placed the assembled Main Inlet Valve of Unit-1 at its 444 MW Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project on June 2, 2026. CMD Sipan Kumar Garg virtually graced the event, praising the project team’s technical excellence and dedication. Chief Technical Officer L.P. Joshi and Executive Director Kumar Sharad also lauded the achievement. This complex installation marks a critical advancement in electro-mechanical works, moving the mega-hydro project significantly closer to operational readiness.

कंपनी ने उत्तराखंड के टिहरी में लगभग ₹8,339 करोड़ की लागत से 4×250 MW का यह प्रोजेक्ट बनाया है। पहले और दूसरे यूनिट क्रमशः 7 जून और 10 जुलाई 2024 को चालू हो चुके हैं।

अधिकारियों के अनुसार, तीसरा यूनिट दिसंबर 2025 और चौथा यूनिट जनवरी 2026 तक कमीशन हो जाएगा। THDC के अनुसार, टिहरी पम्प्ड स्टोरेज प्रोजेक्ट अब अपने अंतिम कमीशनिंग चरण में प्रवेश कर चुका है।

Shri Sipan Kumar Garg assumed the additional charge of CMD THDC India Limited. Presently Sh. Garg has been serving as Director (Finance) of THDCIL. A commerce and law graduate, he is also a member of ICAI, ICMAI, ICSI and a rank holder in the Company Secretary examination.

He has over 24 years of experience in Finance, Accounts, Taxation, and Commercial functions in the power sector. Prior to joining THDC India Limited, he served as Chief Financial Officer at Aravali Power Company Private Limited and Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited, both subsidiaries of NTPC Limited. He has also held key roles in NTPC’s Corporate Accounts Group and the Koldam Hydro Power Project.

Shri R. K. Vishnoi, CMD, THDC Passes Away

Shri R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited (THDCIL), passed away on November 15, 2025, at the age of 58, after a brief illness. Appointed CMD on August 6, 2021, he was dedicated to transforming THDCIL into a diversified and innovative power sector entity, with a focus on operational excellence and new project development. With over 37 years of service, almost entirely with THDCIL, he played a pivotal role in major projects such as the Tehri Hydro Power Project, Koteshwar HEP, and Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project. An honors graduate in Civil Engineering from BITS Pilani, Shri Vishnoi was a globally recognized power engineer and represented India on international platforms, including the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), where he contributed to the Technical Committee on Seismic Safety of Dams. His legacy is one of unwavering dedication and technical excellence in India’s hydropower sector.

Rishikesh: THDC India Limited has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Rajbhasha Jyoti Shield’ for its outstanding performance in implementing the Official Language Policy during the year 2023–24. The award was presented during the meeting of the Hindi Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Power.

The Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, presented the award. Shri R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), along with Shri Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), received the award on behalf of THDC India Limited.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Power; Shri Pankaj Agarwal (IAS), Secretary (Power); Shri Dheeraj Kumar Srivastava, Chief Engineer (In-charge, Official Language); as well as senior officials and representatives from various offices and Public Sector Undertakings under the Ministry of Power. Members of the Hindi Advisory Committee and other dignitaries were also present.

THDC India synchronizes first unit of its 1,000-MW pumped storage project in pump condenser mode

THDC India on Thursday announced synchronisation of the first 250 MW unit of its pumped storage plant (PSP) in pump condenser mode at Tehri in Uttarakhand.

THDC India is constructing a 1,000-MW (250 MW X 4 units) PSP project at Tehri.

“CMD R K Vishnoi has announced achievement towards successful commissioning of India’s first variable speed 1,000 MW PSP at Tehri with the successful synchronisation of its first unit (of 250 MW) to the Indian grid in pump condenser mode,” THDC India said in a statement.

THDC India is a 75:25 per cent entity of the NTPC and government of Uttar Pradesh.
