Sindh province Governor Imran Ismail condemned the incident. “Strongly condemn the attack on PSX aimed at tarnishing our relentless war on terror. Have instructed the IG & security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are caught alive & their handlers are accorded exemplary punishments. We shall protect Sindh at all costs,” he said on Twitter.

Intelligences sources say a special cell of the Delhi Police received an alert last evening about the presence of the terrorists in the capital. All four are said to be heavily armed. The alert led to searches across Delhi, especially in its more crowded neighbourhoods.

The threat was discussed at a meeting at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office today . 

We are on alert and taking all anti-terrorism measures. We are working on all inputs. There is nothing to worry,” said MS Randhawa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi).

“The drone made around 10 visits to drop the entire consignment on the Indian side and yet remained undetected. The consignment contained five satellite phones, which hints that the delivery was meant for Jammu and Kashmir since mobile internet connection is still snapped in the valley,” said a senior police officer, asking not to be identified.

Four terrorists of the Khalistan Zindabad Force were arrested at Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Monday. All the weapons and fake notes worth Rs. 10 lakh were recovered from them.

The terrorists were found driving a white Maruti Swift with a Punjab registration number. They have been identified as Balwant Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Balbir Singh. Both Akashdeep Singh and Balwant Singh have multiple criminal cases against them.

A half-burnt drone was recovered by policemen in Tarn Taran, sources said. The terrorists burnt the machine after it failed to fly back to Pakistan, they said.

The counter-intelligence team of the Punjab Police made a similar recovery of arms in August in Amritsar, near the border with Pakistan.

“We have observed that smuggling from the Pakistani side has increased since the centre’s move on Jammu and Kashmir,” the police officer said.

The state police have asked the National Investigation Agency to probe the case.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said the weapon deliveries by drones have added a “new and serious dimension on Pakistan’s sinister designs”, and asked Home Minister Amit Shah to “handle” the problem.

“Recent incidents of Pakistan-origin drones dropping consignments of arms & ammunition is a new and serious dimension on Pakistan’s sinister designs in aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370. Request @AmitShah ji to make sure that this drone problem is handled at the earliest,” the Chief Minister tweeted.

The airspace was opened in July, but Pakistani leaders have in recent weeks given statements on airspace closure following India’s move to scrap special status for Jammu and Kashmir.     The Army Chief’s comments come days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to discuss the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Yesterday, at the mega “Howdy, Modi!” event in Houston, where he shared a stage with US President Donald Trump, the PM took on Pakistan and said it was time to fight against terrorism and those who supported terror. “Whether it is 9/11 in America or 26/11 in Mumbai, where are its conspirators found? Not just you, the world knows who these people are,” he said without naming Pakistan.

On February 26, a dozen French-origin Mirage 2000 jets of the Indian Air Force penetrated deep inside Pakistan and bombed the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad camp in response to a terror attack in which a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb near a convoy of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama, killing 40 soldiers.

At the UN later this week, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, set to speak after PM Modi, is likely to try and bring up India’s move to scrap special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and divide it into two Union Territories.

Pakistan’s move to re-activate the Balakot Jaish camp belies its commitment to the international community on not giving shelter to terrorists on its soil.
