Image caption: Shri Suresh Prabhu, former Union Commerce Minister and India’s ex-G20 Sherpa, with Rajya Sabha MP Dr Vikramjit Singh Sahney

NEW DELHI, May 12, 2026: The corporate and cooperative sectors must team up to build social enterprises and unlock demand in rural India, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney said at the CII Annual Summit.

Known for his push on grassroots development, Dr. Sahney argued that corporates and cooperatives working together could reach the last mile in villages, spurring rural economies and creating sustainable livelihoods. “If we truly want to spur rural demand and bring inclusive growth, corporates and cooperatives cannot work in silos, they must collaborate to promote social enterprises,” he said. This kind of synergy, he added, would help bridge the stubborn urban-rural divide.

Dr. Sahney put a sharp focus on women-led groups. Women-led cooperatives, self-help groups (SHGs), and women-run enterprises have huge potential but often lack the backing they need, he said. They should get greater institutional support to evolve into technology-enabled, professionally managed outfits, using digital payments, online procurement, and e-market platforms to boost their effectiveness and scale.

Cooperatives need to get more transparent with professional leadership, regular audits, autonomy, and independent boards. The newly enacted Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act gives them the legal tools to do just that, allowing real independence while keeping accountability in check.

The session, chaired by Sh. Suresh Prabhu, former Union Commerce Minister and India’s ex-G20 Sherpa, drew nods from industry leaders and policy makers.

They agreed cooperatives are an underused lever for inclusive growth. Dr. Sahney’s ideas line up with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘sahakar se samriddhi’ (prosperity through cooperation) push, which fits with the bigger discussions happening about improving rural areas and starting social projects, especially as more money is now being spent in the countryside.”

New Delhi, 11th May 2026: Aiming to empower underserved youth in Uttar Pradesh, Ambuja Foundation and Kanohar Electricals Limited have partnered to establish a new Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Institute in Modinagar, Uttar Pradesh. The three-year programme aims to train more than 1,000 rural youth with employment-oriented skills, preparing them for sustainable livelihoods.

Located in Ghaziabad, Modinagar is strategically positioned near the rapidly expanding economic hub of Delhi NCR region. However, despite this geographical advantage and proximity to a strong economic ecosystem, many villages around Saunda in Modinagar continue to face unemployment, underemployment, and limited access to skill-based livelihood opportunities.

A field assessment conducted by Ambuja Foundation across Saunda and surrounding villages revealed that while access to basic education is relatively strong, with many young men and women completing secondary school and even graduation, there remains a significant gap in industry-relevant technical skills, practical training exposure, and awareness of career pathways. As a result, a large number of educated rural youth remain unemployed or engaged in informal and low-paying work.

Village Saunda has been selected for this initiative due to its strong alignment with the programme’s objectives, as well as its significance as the native place of the founder, Shri Kanohar Lal Singhal, reflecting a commitment to contribute to the development of communities connected to the Company’s roots. The initiative will offer structured learning modules in courses such as Phlebotomy, General Duty Assistant, OT Assistance, Customer Care and Microfinance. In addition to technical training, participants will receive soft skills and IT training, along with On-the-Job Training to strengthen practical workplace experience.

Participants will also be trained in work readiness and financial literacy to help prepare them for professional environments. The programme also places strong emphasis on occupational health and safety, ensuring that trainees understand workplace standards and practices, thereby improving their employability and long-term career prospects.

Speaking about the initiative, Pearl Tiwari, CEO, Ambuja Foundation said, “With the growing demand for a skilled workforce across sectors, it is becoming increasingly important to bridge the skills gap and equip youth with industry-relevant capabilities. Through this strategic partnership with Kanohar Electricals Limited, we aim empowering youth with the skills, confidence and opportunities needed to build sustainable careers and improve their socio-economic well-being.

Shri Dinesh Singhal, Chairman and Managing Director of Kanohar Electricals Limited added:
“At Kanohar Electricals Limited, we believe that investing in skills development is essential for building inclusive economic growth. Through this collaboration with Ambuja Foundation, we hope to create meaningful opportunities for young people in rural Uttar Pradesh, enabling them to gain industry-relevant skills and access better livelihood prospects.”

Over the next three years, the institute is expected to play a critical role in connecting rural youth with emerging employment opportunities across the NCR region, while strengthening local capacities for skill development. By equipping young men and women with practical training, career guidance, and access to job placements, the initiative aims to contribute to reduced unemployment, improved household incomes, and greater economic mobility for families across the region.

Visakhapatnam: 20th March, 2026: Adani Gangavaram Port marked a community celebration held at the Multiple Sports Ground, Dibbapalem, under its CSR program focused on women empowerment. The event was inaugurated by Shri Kameshwar Rao, CI, New Port Police Station, Pedagantyada in the presence of senior management of Adani Gangavaram Port Limited along with the women community beneficiaries.

The program featured motivational addresses, engaging games for women, and a prize distribution ceremony that recognized outstanding participants and entrepreneurs. The atmosphere was inclusive, encouraging, and focused on dignity, opportunity, and self-reliance.

Empowering Women Through Sustainable Livelihoods

Adani Gangavaram Port launched its Self‑Sustainability Initiative in 2022 to help women gain skills, income, and confidence. Since then, the initiative has nurtured 25 women‑run shops, enabling participants—many of whom earlier had no earnings—to now make around ₹7,000 per month while managing their businesses with pride.

Scaling: 25 New Shops Announced

Building on this progress, the port announced the establishment of 25 additional women-led shops, taking the total to 50 micro‑enterprises. This expansion deepens the port’s commitment to inclusive growth, local entrepreneurship, and steady household income for women from underserved communities.

As part of the program’s next phase, the CSR initiative will bring all women made products under a unified company level brand and create a dedicated marketplace. This combined platform will help:

· Increase visibility and sales

· Improve customer access and reach

· Strengthen the brand identity of locally made products

· Promote entrepreneurship and skill based growth

· Support long term self reliance and sustainable income for women

Speaking on the occasion Adani Gangavaram Port Limited management said, the women empowerment is a long-term commitment—not a one‑day agenda, appreciating the courage, resilience, and hard work of all participating women and reaffirmed support through skill development, business guidance, and market linkages.

Further stated, “Our goal is simple—create real opportunities that lead to real income and real confidence. We are proud to see women move from zero earnings to stable livelihoods and leadership within their communities.”

“Guided by the vision and leadership of Dr. Priti Adani, Chairperson – Adani Foundation, AGPL remains committed to empowering women through the three pillars of opportunity, skill, and self‑belief, building a stronger and more self‑reliant community.”
