										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The New Plate Mill (NPM) of Steel Authority of India Limited’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) recorded its highest-ever June month performance, producing 89,226 tonnes and dispatching 84,997 tonnes of plates. These figures surpass the previous June records of 82,098 tonnes in production and 84,481 tonnes in dispatch. During the month, NPM rolled 8,706 slabs, the highest number ever rolled in a 30-day month, with more than 350 slabs rolled on three separate occasions.</p>
<p>NPM also registered its best first-quarter (Q1) performance for FY 2026–27 in both production and dispatch. Compared to the corresponding period last year (CPLY), production grew by 11.55% while dispatch increased by 5.29%.</p>
<p>Congratulating Team NPM, Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge (RSP) has appreciated the outstanding achievement of the team, leadership and all supporting departments and commended their collective effort. He added that, at this critical juncture for Rourkela Steel Plant, performance must be raised further so that the plant can emerge stronger.</p>
<p>The achievement reflects coordinated efforts across operations, maintenance, quality, logistics and other supporting departments, and underscores NPM’s commitment to operational excellence and timely delivery to customers.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) recorded a series of production milestones in the month of June and for the first quarter that is April–June 2026, reflecting robust operational performance across its upstream and downstream facilities. In June, RSP achieved its best-ever June output in Blast Furnace-1, Sinter Plant-2, the Plate Mill, the New Plate Mill and the Sheet Shearing Line of the Hot Strip Mill, underscoring strong month-end momentum across critical production units. For the quarter, Sinter Plant-1 and the entire sinter plant complex registered all-time best sinter production, while Crude Steel production in Steel Melting Shop-2 reached its highest quarterly level, enabling enhanced downstream finished-steel output.</p>

<p>Finished-steel facilities delivered equally notable results. Both the Plate Mill and the New Plate Mill posted their best quarterly performances, and HR plate output from the Sheet Shearing Line of the Hot Strip Mill also achieved record quarterly production. The New Plate Mill produced 2,66,263 tonnes of plate in Q1, an 11.6% year-on-year growth,  while HR plate output from the Sheet Shearing Line rose by 14.9% to 82,514 tonnes, reflecting healthy growth in high-value product segments. Operational improvements helped maximize the road despatch coefficient, delivering a record June road despatch of 48,564 tonnes. RSP also achieved its highest April–June direct despatch figures of 8,27,871 tonnes, surpassing the previous best of 7,95,521 tonnes.</p>
<p>By prioritizing both road and direct despatch, RSP has also reinforced its focus on working capital optimization. High contributions from value-added segments such as Plate Mill and HR plate production have positively impacted the plant’s bottom line.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">The Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant has concluded the month of June 2026 with yet another significant achievement, further strengthening its record of operational excellence.</p>

<p>During the month, HSM-2 rolled 10,759 HR coils, surpassing its previous best of 10,713 HR coils achieved in October 2025. This marks the best-ever monthly performance of the mill in terms of number of coils rolled.</p>
<p>In another notable accomplishment, the Sheet Shearing Line also recorded its best June performance in HR plate production.</p>
<p>Congratulating the team and leadership of HSM-2 as well as all the supporting Deptts, Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge (RSP) has said the performance of the Mill is directly linked with the prosperity of the Plant. He has also exhorted all to make all out efforts to achieve 30 lakh tones of production this year.</p>
<p>This achievement has been made possible through the unstinted efforts of the entire HSM collective, with active support from Production Planning and Control (PPC), Roll Shop, Computer and Information Technology (C&amp;IT), Instrumentation, Centralised Mechanical (Maintenance), Centralised Electrical (Maintenance), Design, Traffic, Energy Management, Materials Management, Water Management, Research and Control Lab (RCL), Contract Cell (Works), Steel Melting Shop, and the Refractory Engineering Department.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="font-weight: 400;"><em>At ICC&#8217;s 15th India Minerals &amp; Metals Forum, Anupam Lahiri says e-waste, battery waste and mine tailings offer a quicker path to self-reliance than new mining</em></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>New Delhi, July 2, 2026: </strong>The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) today hosted the 15th edition of its India Minerals &amp; Metals Forum (Ferrous &amp; Non-Ferrous) in the capital, bringing together senior government officials, steel majors and mining companies to discuss how India can build a secure, self-reliant supply chain for critical minerals even as its steel and metals industry scales up sharply over the next two decades.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">The forum, themed &#8220;Minerals to Metals,&#8221; opened with <strong>Dr. Pankaj Satija, Chairperson of ICC&#8217;s National Expert Committee on Minerals &amp; Metals</strong>, setting out the scale of the opportunity and the government&#8217;s current approach to critical minerals. India&#8217;s list of critical minerals, he noted, now stands at 31 following the recent addition of coking coal, spanning applications from clean energy and electric vehicles to defence, healthcare and advanced manufacturing, with the government working simultaneously across exploration, recycling and recovery from industrial waste.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><em>&#8220;Critical minerals are going to play a defining role in India&#8217;s future. They are essential for everything from clean energy and electric vehicles to defence, healthcare and advanced manufacturing. India has already identified 31 critical minerals, and the government&#8217;s approach is moving on three fronts—speeding up domestic exploration, treating e-waste as a valuable resource through recycling, and recovering critical minerals from industrial waste such as steel slag and fly ash. More than 500 blocks are already under exploration, while partnerships with countries like the US and Argentina are helping strengthen our supply chain. We still have a long way to go, but if the government, industry and researchers work together, India can steadily build a secure and self-reliant critical minerals ecosystem,&#8221; Dr. Satija said.</em></p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">He also pointed to recent international engagement on the subject, noting that India and the United States had deepened cooperation through the FORGE initiative on February 4, 2026, followed by the PACT Initiative on February 20, 2026, with discussions during a subsequent visit by the US Secretary of State covering lithium refining, cathode materials, recycling, feedstock corridors and synthetic graphite production. He said India was similarly expanding engagement with Argentina and other Latin American markets to widen access to mineral resources.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Mr Anupam Lahiri, Programme Director, NITI Aayog</strong>, followed with the policy think tank&#8217;s view on recycling as the most immediate lever available to Indian industry, arguing that with domestic exploration still years away from yielding proven, mineable reserves, recovery from existing waste streams offered India its fastest route to reducing import dependence.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><em>&#8220;India&#8217;s critical minerals journey cannot depend on mining alone. Domestic exploration will take time, so we also need to focus on the resources that are already around us. E-waste, battery waste, mine overburden and tailings have the potential to become important sources of critical minerals if we can build the right ecosystem around them. That means making recycling commercially viable, creating the right incentives for industry and helping new technologies move beyond the pilot stage. Overseas partnerships will continue to play an important role, but in the near term, recycling offers India the fastest and most practical path to strengthening its critical minerals supply,&#8221; </em>he said.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Mr Lahiri disclosed that NITI Aayog has constituted a technical committee, with presentations from Coal India, Singareni Collieries, Jindal Steel and Adani, to assess how much critical mineral value can be recovered from mine tailings and overburden dumps, citing Neyveli Lignite Corporation’s success in extracting rare earth elements from fly ash as an early proof point. He flagged unresolved policy questions around how royalties should apply when critical minerals are recovered from an already-licensed coal mine, and noted that state-run KABIL was pursuing overseas mineral assets in Australia, Argentina and, more recently, the United States, though several host countries require ore processing to happen locally before export, limiting downstream value capture for India.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Mr Sushanta Kumar Mishra, Executive In-charge of Tata Steel&#8217;s Ferro Alloys &amp; Minerals Division</strong>, linked the critical minerals push to India&#8217;s steel expansion plans, with national output targeted to rise from current levels of roughly 150-160 million tonnes to 300 million tonnes by 2030 and 500 million tonnes by 2047. He said Tata Steel, which currently operates around 24 million tonnes of capacity against an ambition of 40 million tonnes, was steering its ferroalloys business toward high-value products, targeting nearly 80% of its portfolio in value-added segments, while research at its Sukinda Valley operations on recovering nickel and cobalt from chromite overburden had already produced successful nickel pig iron trials in India. He called for greater regulatory clarity on how minerals recovered from mine overburden should be classified under existing licensing norms.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;">Offering an industry-wide perspective, <strong>Mr Tushar Chakraborty, Executive Director at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP</strong>, said the sector&#8217;s focus needed to extend beyond output targets to cost competitiveness and supply chain resilience.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><em>&#8220;As demand for steel, non-ferrous metals and other industrial commodities continues to rise, the conversation has to move beyond production targets. The real challenge is ensuring that this growth remains competitive and sustainable. That means improving productivity, securing reliable access to raw materials and building supply chains that can withstand future disruptions. India has set ambitious milestones for 2030 and 2047, but achieving them will depend as much on cost competitiveness as on capacity expansion. The industry now needs to focus on creating a resilient raw material ecosystem that supports long-term growth while keeping Indian manufacturing globally competitive,&#8221; </em>Mr Chakraborty said.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Mr N. D. Rao, President-Projects at Atha &amp; Amalgam Steel Group</strong>, framed the debate around mineralogy, noting that iron ore grade varies sharply by mineral type, from magnetite at roughly 72.3% iron content to hematite at 69.8%, goethite at around 62.5% and siderite below 50%, directly affecting processing costs and recovery. He pointed to emerging reduction roasting technology, now being trialled at a Bhubaneswar laboratory, that can convert lower-grade goethite and limonite ores into magnetite, lifting iron content to 67-70%. Drawing on his own experience leading bioleaching trials with Professor K. A. Natarajan of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and Hindustan Zinc&#8217;s decades-old programme recovering silver from zinc processing waste, which helped make India the world&#8217;s largest silver producer, Mr Rao cited Vadodara-based Rubamin&#8217;s success in recovering lithium from e-waste as evidence of the commercial potential in India&#8217;s &#8220;waste-to-wealth&#8221; approach, while noting that the country&#8217;s beach sand rare earth reserves remained underexploited due to limited private sector participation.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Mr R R Sathpathy, Executive Director-Exploration and Beneficiation at Lloyds Metals &amp; Energy</strong>, distinguished between scientific, sustainable and responsible mining, arguing that Indian miners had mastered the first two but were only beginning the third. He detailed the transformation of the company&#8217;s Surjagad iron ore mine in Maharashtra&#8217;s Gadchiroli district, once known chiefly for insurgency-related instability, into a fully electrified operation, with battery-powered dumpers, shovels and loaders cutting carbon emissions from around 11-12 kg per tonne to 3-3.5 kg per tonne, with a target of 1-1.5 kg per tonne once a planned 110 MW solar-and-wind hybrid power supply comes online later this year. He said the mine&#8217;s ongoing 45-million-tonne beneficiation plant, being built in three 15-million-tonne modules with the first due by September 2027, had extended the site&#8217;s usable resource base beyond a billion tonnes by lowering the cut-off ore grade, while the surrounding community had seen sustained local employment, a company-run school and a 100-bed hospital.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>HYDERABAD</strong>. NMDC reported June iron ore production rose 44% to 5.15 million tonnes compared to 3.57 MT a year earlier, while sales increased to 3.98 MT (3.58 MT).</p>
<p>For the quarter ended June, the company produced 15.10 MT, registering a 26% year-on-year increase. Sales stood at 11.75 MT, marking a 2% y-o-y rise. It was the highest-ever first-quarter production and sales since inception and strengthens its position in India’s steel value chain, the largest iron ore producer in the country said.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Traffic and Raw Material (T&amp;RM)  Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), has been adjudged the Best Department in the area of Learning &amp; Development (L&amp;D) Interventions across all SAIL units for the financial year 2024-25. Mr. Priya Ranjan, Director In-Charge, Bokaro Steel Plant, presented the award to the RSP team at a function held at the Management Training Institute (MTI), Ranchi, on 25th June 2026. Mr. Sanjay Dhar, ED(MTI) was also present on the occasion. Mr. P. K. Sahoo, CGM (L&amp;D), and Mr. Manoj Kumar, General Manager (T&amp;RM), received the award on behalf of RSP.</p>
<p>The department received this recognition in appreciation of its sustained commitment to organizational excellence through leadership coaching interventions, business appreciation programmes, cost optimization initiatives, customized MoUs, cyber security awareness, energy conservation, supervisory capability development, implementation of environmental management systems, fire control management, the Learn to Lead in All Situations programme, and continuous improvement in material handling practices.</p>
<p>The department also conducted customized safety training programmes for shunting operators and locomotive operators, enhancing their operational competence and reinforcing safe working practices.</p>
<p>The award reflects RSP&#8217;s unwavering commitment to developing competencies in industrial safety and operational excellence. Through a wide range of comprehensive learning and development initiatives, the T&amp;RM Department has fostered a strong culture of safety, excellence, and preparedness across the plant. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Mr. Dilip Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), SAIL, arrived at Rourkela on 8th June 2026 for a three-day official visit to SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). <p>As part of his visit, Mr. Kumar made an extensive tour of the Plant to gain an overview of RSP’s operations, modernization initiatives and production facilities. The visit commenced with a briefing at the Model Room of the Learning &amp; Development Centre, where Mr.  P. K. Sahoo, CGM (L&amp;D), presented an overview of the Plant’s facilities, growth trajectory and future plans.</p>

<p>Subsequently, Mr. Kumar visited key operational units of the Plant, including the Raw Material Handling Plant (RMHP), Blast Furnace-5 (BF-5), Steel Melting Shop-II (SMS-II), and Hot Strip Mill-II (HSM-II). Mr. Biswaranjan Pallai, ED (Works), accompanied him during the Plant visit. During the tour, the CVO was received by respective CGMs and HODs of the Department. He interacted with senior officials and reviewed various operational and management practices being followed across the units.</p>
<p>Mr. Kumar also held discussions with the Chief General Managers of Blast Furnace and Hot Strip Mill-II at ‘Samagam’, Conference Hall of ED (Works) Secretariat, where issues related to operational excellence, system improvement and organizational effectiveness were deliberated upon.</p>
<p>During the day, the CVO interacted with officials from the Mines Department at Rourkela House and reviewed various aspects of mining operations and associated activities. He also held an interactive session with Young Managers, encouraging them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency and professional excellence in their careers.</p>
<p>A special interaction programme with senior officers of the Plant, comprising Executive Directors and Chief General Managers was organized at the DIC Conference Hall, “Manthan”. ACVO, RSP and the team from Vigilance Deptt coordinated the entire visit.</p>

<p><strong>VIZAG.</strong> Shri Subhasis Sengupta has assumed charge as Director (Operations) with effect from Wednesday. Prior to joining RINL, he was serving as Chief General Manager (Projects) at Steel Authority of India Limited&#8217;s Durgapur Steel Plant.During his tenure as Chief General Manager (Projects) at Durgapur Steel Plant, Sengupta spearheaded major brownfield expansion projects valued at over Rs 5,500 crore. He has also been associated with the proposed 3 MTPA greenfield expansion project estimated at Rs 28,000 crore.</p>
<p>Earlier, as Chief General Manager (Works) and Unit Head of SAIL Growth Works, he played a key role in the turnaround of the facility, leading to a 51 percent increase in production and a 108 percent rise in turnover. He also implemented several initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability and enhancing operational efficiency.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>BHUBANESWAR:</strong> Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) CMD, Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda visited the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on a two-day tour, during which he reviewed ongoing expansion activities and stressed on the importance of safety, equipment reliability and enhanced production of value-added steel. Dr. Panda arrived in Rourkela on Friday and was received at the airport by RSP Director-in-Charge Alok Verma. Senior officials, including Executive Director (Human Resources) Tarun Misra and Executive Director (Materials Management) Anil Kumar, were also present. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) unit of RSP accorded him a ceremonial guard of honour on arrival.</p>
<p>On Saturday, the SAIL chief inspected key expansion sites at the integrated steel plant, including the New Plate Mill, one of the facility&#8217;s major production units. He was accompanied by Verma, Executive Director (Works) Biswaranjan Palai and Executive Director (Projects) S. Pal Chowdhury. Following the site visit, Dr. Panda chaired a high-level review meeting at the Manthan Conference Hall, attended by RSP&#8217;s senior management, including executive directors, chief general managers, heads of departments and other officials.</p>
<p>Dr. Panda commended the plant&#8217;s performance and its achievements in setting production and operational benchmarks across several areas. He said the SAIL management had reposed significant confidence in RSP and expected the plant to play a pivotal role in the company&#8217;s future growth strategy. During the review, the CMD highlighted three strategic priorities for the steel major: strengthening workplace safety, maintaining equipment health to ensure operational efficiency, and increasing the production of value-added steel products to enhance competitiveness and profitability.</p>
<p>Director-in-Charge Alok Verma thanked the CMD for his guidance and reaffirmed the commitment of the RSP workforce to meeting the expectations of the SAIL management and contributing to the company&#8217;s long-term growth objectives.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Coal Chemical Department (CCD) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant has wrapped up FY 2025-26 with an outstanding performance, generating Rs 296 crore in revenue from the sale of coal chemicals, a valuable by-products from the Coke Ovens.</p>
<p>In addition, CCD has successfully dispatched 76,000 tonnes of Crude Coal Tar during the year, catering to diverse end-user industries and reinforcing its role in sustainable byproduct utilization.</p>
<p>Prioritizing a zero-harm workplace, the department implemented several safety measures to create a safe work place. A static dissipator system was installed at the benzol storage tank area to safely discharge static charges. For the first time benzol scrubber in a Zone-1 area underwent successful overhauling, strictly adhering to safety protocols.</p>
<p>To further strengthen the safe working culture, a CO monitoring system with control room alarm integration was installed in New CCD for continuous gas detection and early warnings. The department also commissioned the replacement of Sulphuric Acid Tank-3 (Site-C), boosting storage capacity and minimizing plant stoppages. Additionally, the dyke along with a spillage recycling system was reconstructed and operationalized, enhancing safety and environmental compliance.</p>
<p>These initiatives underscore CCD&#8217;s commitment to operational excellence, safety, and sustainability, setting a benchmark for by-product management in RSP.</p>
