Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna CPSE and one of the largest steelmakers in the country, has scaled new heights, achieving a 16% growth in total sales during the April – January FY 2025–26 period at 16.6 million tonnes (MT), compared to 14.3 MT in the corresponding period last year (CPLY). This marks the highest-ever cumulative sales recorded by the company. SAIL also registered its best-ever January sales in Jan’26 at 1.84 MT, up from 1.68 MT in the corresponding month of the previous year, reflecting a growth of over 10%. It has resulted in inventory reduction of 0.25 MT and substantial reduction in borrowings.

The record-breaking performances during these periods span across multiple parameters including sales, dispatches, cash collections and customer door-to-door delivery. The company achieved record dispatches from plants, expanded door delivery volumes and enhanced warehouse sales, underscoring its strong focus on customer-centricity and logistics efficiency while deepening market penetration.

These achievements, driven by the initiatives of the Marketing vertical, highlight SAIL’s ability to combine operational excellence with customer-focused strategies. By consistently surpassing previous records and meeting business plan targets, SAIL continues to reinforce its position as a trusted partner in India’s growth story.

NEW DELHI. Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna CPSE, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), a Navratna CPSE, to strengthen logistics and operational efficiency across SAIL’s plants and mines. SAIL operates a dedicated mini rail network within its premises to facilitate seamless movement of raw materials, in-process transfers and finished products, making effective maintenance of its diesel locomotive fleet—along with wet-leased locomotives—crucial for uninterrupted operations and future capacity expansion. As Indian Railways transitions towards electric locomotives, RITES continues to offer specialized expertise in diesel locomotive operations and maintenance, supported by access to Indian Railways’ facilities, spares and skilled manpower, positioning it well to meet SAIL’s operational needs. This collaboration will enable both organizations to focus on their core strengths, optimize costs, enhance operational efficiency and contribute to reducing the carbon footprint. The MoU was signed by Shri P.K. Baisakhiya, Executive Director (Operations), SAIL, and Shri Sandeep Jain, Executive Director (Technical Services), RITES, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a Maharatna and India’s largest public sector steelmaker has earned the coveted ‘Great Place to Work’ certification for February 2026 to February 2027, straight third time in a row following a company-wide assessment by the Great Place To Work Institute, India. The recognition reflects SAIL’s enduring commitment to nurture a workplace culture that is contemporary, agile and deeply aligned with the professional and personal growth of its people.

Demonstrating a notable rise in its TRUST INDEX © score, an indicator of the percentage of employees giving positive feedback during the assessment, SAIL earned the certification on the basis of a comprehensive company-wide survey conducted by the Institute. The Great Place to Work Institute, a global authority on workplace culture, honors organizations that deliver exceptional employee experiences through a rigorous evaluation process.

SAIL has been steadily rolling out progressive HR initiatives, the latest being SAIL DARPAN – a step towards a transparent, performance‑driven workplace where evaluation and target setting reflect objectivity and alignment with organizational goals, while empowering employees to own their growth. Another key initiative is offering domain‑change opportunities for executives through specialized training programs under MoUs with leading IIMs (Kozhikode, Bangalore, Jammu, Raipur, Ranchi) and renowned institutes like XLRI and ASCI, focusing on marketing and HR.

On this occasion CMD SAIL, Shri Amarendu Prakash, said, “Securing the ‘Great Place to Work’ certification for the third consecutive year is a proud moment for all of us at SAIL. This recognition is a reflection of the trust our employees place in the organization and the culture we are collectively building”.

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), the Maharatna CPSE and one of the leading steel producers in the Country, has added another feather in its cap by clocking a sales volume of 2.1 Million Tonne (MT) (provisional) during December 2025, thereby achieving a colossal growth of about 37% over the sales volume of 1.5 MT achieved in December 2024. This is the best ever showing for the month of December and saw the Company scale new peaks across product categories and different sales channels with significant inventory reduction. The performance was buoyed by maintaining strong focus on customer deliveries. SAIL has also been undertaking branding initiatives with a renewed vigour recently.

The performance during the month helped SAIL sustain its growth momentum during FY’26 with sales volume reaching 14.7 MT (provisional) through April-December’25 which is a growth of about 17% as compared to 12.6 MT during CPLY. Apart from the records set in the domestic market, export volumes have also surged significantly, underscoring SAIL’s growing global footprint.

The consistent improvement highlights SAIL’s strengthened market presence, customer-centric initiatives and operational excellence. The record breaking achievements by SAIL across both domestic and international markets not only reinforce it amongst leaders in India but also expected to catapult its position to a higher pedestal amongst top steel companies globally.
