RSP team emerges Champion in SPSB Inter Steel Chess Championship- 2025

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) emerged as the champion in the SPSB Inter Steel Chess Championship, held at Steel Club, Durgapur, from 20^th to 22^nd March. The tournament was organized by Alloy Steel Plant and witnessed participation from nine teams representing various Steel Plants like Bokaro Steel Plant, Bhilai Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant, Alloy Steel Plant, IISCO, Burnpur, Salem Steel Plant, Rourkela Steel Plant and RINL.

The championship followed a Round Robin League format, where each team competed against every other team. RSP’s team, comprising Mr. Binayak Jena, Senior Manager (T&RM), Mr. N. N. Behera, Senior Technician (Coke Ovens), Mr. Gobardhan Behera, MOMT (SMS-II), Mr. I. C. Bhuyan, MOMT (Plate Mill) and Mr. S. K. Nayak, Master Technician (FMM) delivered an exceptional performance. The team was accompanied by their Coach cum Manager, Mr. P. C. Sahoo, Master Technician (Blast Furnace).

Demonstrating remarkable consistency and skill, Team RSP remained unbeaten from the very first round to the last. Their outstanding performance culminated in a decisive victory over Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) in the final round, securing the championship title. Meanwhile, Durgapur Steel Plant was declared the runner-up. In addition to this Mr. Binayak Jena, Mr. Govardhan Behera and Mr. N N Behera also received individual Board prizes in first, second and third board respectively.

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Mr. S Subbaraj, ED (ASP), who handed over the trophies in the presence of other dignitaries.

Bhilai Steel Plant emerges champions

SAIL, Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) emerged champions in the Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) Inter-Steel Kabaddi Championship-2024-25, hosted by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The BSP team beat RINL by 42-32 points in the final match held on 19^th March, 2025 at Ispat Basketball Complex, Sector-6 to win the title. Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects) graced the concluding ceremony as the Chief Guest and presented trophies to the winner and the runners up teams. Mr. T G Kanekar, GM In-charge (TS) and other Senior Officers of the plant were present on the occasion.

In his address, Mr. Pal Chowdhury congratulated the winners and appreciated the efforts of each of the teams in the tournament. He applauded the Sports Department of RSP for successfully organizing the event at Rourkela.

The three-day championship featured teams from Bokaro Steel Plant, Bhilai Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant, IISCO Steel Plant, Alloy Steel Plant, Burnpur, RINL, VISL, and Salem Steel Plant, alongside the host RSP.

Earlier, the BSP team beat the IISCO Steel Plant team and the RINL team beat the VISL team to reach the finals.

Mr. T G Kanekar welcomed the gathering while Mr. Anil Mallick, MOMT, SSM coordinated the programme. Mr. R N Padhy, Deputy Manager (Sports) proposed a formal vote of thanks.

The Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) Inter-Steel Kabaddi Championship-2024-25, hosted by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), kicked off on 17^th March, 2025 at Ispat Basketball Complex, Sector-6. Mr. Tarun Misra, ED (HR) graced the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the tournament. Mr. P K Swain, CGM In-Charge (TA & CSR), Mr. T G Kanekar, GM In-charge (TS) and other Senior Officers of the plant were present on the occasion.

In his address, Mr. Misra emphasized that the tournament serves as an excellent platform for budding athletes, promotes teamwork and encourages sporting exchanges among teams.

The three-day championship, set to conclude on March 19, 2025, features teams from Bokaro Steel Plant, Bhilai Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant, IISCO Steel Plant, Alloy Steel Plant, Burnpur, RINL, VISL, and Salem Steel Plant, alongside the host RSP.

In the inaugural match, the RSP team beat Alloy Steel Plant team by 50-33 points. The Bhilai Steel Plant team emerged victorious in the 2^nd match beating ISP, Burnpur by 8 points.

SPSB Inter Steel Plant Hockey Championship commences

The SPSB Inter Steel Plant Hockey Championship being hosted by SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was inaugurated on 18^th February at Biju Pattnaik Hockey Stadium. Mr. P K Swain, CGM In-Charge (TA & CSR) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and inaugurated the event. Mr. B K Jojo, CGM (Town Engineering & Horticulture) and many other senior officers of RSP were present on the occasion. Mr. Swain declared the Tournament open. The Chief Guest was introduced to the players and the match officials.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Swain exhorted the participating teams to take part in the event with sporting spirit and wished the tournament a grand success.

Notably, 4 teams from Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), RINL, TATA Steel and the host RSP are participating in the Tournament. In the inaugural match, RSP team defeated RINL by 5-1 goals. In the following match Tata Steel beat BSP by 6-1 goals. The Final match will be played on 20^th February.
