Through this endeavor, the Miniratna PSU seeks to empower local communities and promote inclusive development by addressing key educational gaps for differently-abled youth across the region.

India’s first 21 CuM capacity electro-hydraulic face shovel has been commissioned at South Eastern Coalfields Limited’s (SECL) Gevra Mega Project in Korba district, Chhattisgarh, marking a significant step towards modernising coal mining operations. SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Shri Harish Duhan inaugurated the advanced machine, which is expected to enhance coal production capacity at Gevra, Asia’s largest coal mine, while supporting safer, more efficient and technology-driven mining. Equipped with advanced operator-centric and safety features such as a 360-degree camera, Operator Fatigue Monitoring System, air-suspension seat, adjustable joysticks, hydraulic access stairs, gas-based fire suppression system and a FOPS-compliant safety cabin, the new shovel is set to strengthen operational efficiency and safety standards at the mega project.

The meeting was attended by Coal India Limited Chairman B. Sairam, SECL CMD Harish Duhan and senior officials from CIL and SECL, including functional directors and the Company Secretary. The company’s statutory, cost and secretarial auditors also participated. Shareholders unanimously approved all resolutions relating to the ordinary and special business placed before the AGM.

BILASPUR. South Eastern Coalfields Limited organised an inspiring programme on the theme Mine Safety and Mind Safety – Safe Mind, Safe Mine at its headquarters in Bilaspur. Held under the National Campaign on Environmental Protection and Disaster Management, the event marked the formal launch of the SECL Inner Excellence Series. Jointly organized with the Scientists, Engineers & Architects (SEA) Wing of the Brahma Kumaris, the initiative aims to promote mental empowerment, personality development, and an integrated safety culture among employees.

Delivering the keynote address, BK Piyush Bhai, National Coordinator of the SEA Wing, emphasised that mind safety is the strongest foundation of mine safety. He highlighted that true operational safety depends not only on modern technology and machinery, but on the balanced and positive mindset of every employee. He cited positive thinking, focus on the present, complete dedication, and regular meditation as key pillars for a safe and productive work culture.

Chief Guest Shri Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SECL, encouraged employees to continuously improve themselves and contribute their very best to nation-building. He emphasized that mental well-being and operational safety go hand in hand, fostering a secure and efficient environment across all mining operations. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy Inaugurates Six Coal NEER Plants

Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, virtually inaugurated six Coal NEER water treatment plants across key Coal India Limited subsidiaries—including Central Coalfields, Mahanadi Coalfields, South Eastern Coalfields, and Bharat Coking Coal—to convert mine discharge water into safe, potable drinking water for nearby communities. Attended by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State Satish Chandra Dubey, Coal India Chairman B. Sairam, Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt, and international dignitaries, the occasion also featured the signing of two landmark tripartite Memorandums of Understanding. Signed between Bharat Coking Coal Limited, the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority, and partners Hindalco Industries and Rajdhani Universal Fabrics, these agreements will establish a vocational training center and a textile manufacturing unit to foster sustainable skill development and employment for families rehabilitated under the Jharia Master Plan.

SECL Drives Massive 3.2 Lakh Sapling Plantation for World Record Campaign

BILASPUR. As part of Coal India’s nationwide Guinness World Records campaign, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) spearheaded a single-day drive to plant over 3.20 lakh saplings across its operational areas on July 21, 2026.

A major highlight of the initiative was the establishment of Bilaspur city’s first Miyawaki dense forest. SECL planted 15,000 saplings across 1.5 hectares at Koni using the rapid-growth afforestation technique.

The event was led by CMD Shri Harish Duhan alongside senior company executives and Bilaspur Division Commissioner Shri Sunil Kumar Jain.

Emphasizing ecological stewardship, CMD Shri Harish Duhan noted that Miyawaki forests will play a pivotal role in boosting urban biodiversity, restoring ecological balance, and combating climate change. The campaign underscores SECL’s long-term commitment to sustainable mining practices and environmental preservation.

CMD Shri Harish Duhan accepted the award in New Delhi yesterday, recognizing SECL’s commitment to sustainable mining, land reclamation, scientific mine closure, and green energy initiatives.

Alongside this honor, SECL became the first Coal India subsidiary to cross 50 Million Tonnes of coal production in FY 2026-27, registering a 9.5% year-on-year growth.

The flagship program provides medical entrance coaching to talented students in SECL’s operational areas, yielding outstanding results. In its inaugural batch (2023–24), 39 out of 40 students qualified for NEET, followed by 31 out of 40 students in the second batch (2024–25). Under the strategic guidance of Himanshu Jain, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), SECL has successfully leveraged technology to enhance transparency, accountability, and preventive vigilance across its mining operations.

The featured reforms include AI-enabled surveillance systems, the Integrated Command and Control Centre, the DigiCOAL platform, GPS-based vehicle tracking, RFID access controls, and the specialized Mission Zero Scrap initiative.
