PM Modi Inaugurates Major Solar Power Projects in Rajasthan to Boost Green Energy and Employment

JAIPUR. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated NHPC’s 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Built under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat initiative using 7.75 lakh domestic solar modules, the mega project significantly strengthens India’s energy security and environmental sustainability. The plant is engineered to generate 75 crore units of clean electricity annually while cutting down carbon emissions by 6.4 lakh tonnes each year. NHPC CMD Bhupender Gupta expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders and highlighted that the plant successfully expands their green footprint while boosting the local economy by providing direct employment to residents in the remote region.

Simultaneously, the historic occasion marked major milestones for the 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, which has been developed by SJVN through its renewable energy arm, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Developed with an investment of approximately 5,492 crore across nearly 5,000 acres, this project stands as India’s largest single EPC solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement category at a single location, showcasing world-class renewable energy infrastructure built entirely on indigenous capabilities. The project is estimated to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions over its operational life, making a substantial contribution toward India’s climate action commitments.

The mega event was graced by the Governor of Rajasthan, Sh. Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Sh. Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Sh. Manohar Lal, and Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sh. Hardeep Singh Puri. The virtual launch was also joined by top leadership including SJVN Director of Personnel Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director of Finance Sh. Parthajit De, Director of Projects Sh. Rajesh Kumar Chandel, CVO Sh. Pankaj Porwal, CEO of SGEL Sh. Prashant Sharma, and other senior officials. Beyond clean energy generation, these projects have contributed meaningfully to regional socio-economic development, generating more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities during construction and continuing to support local livelihoods during the operational phase.

DPE Secretary Reviews Annual MoU Targets with Power Sector CPSEs

The Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), chaired the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) meeting to finalize the annual Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) targets for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Power. The meeting was attended by senior representatives of the Ministry of Power and leading power sector CPSEs, including NTPC Limited, NHPC Limited, SJVN Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid). During the meeting, the participants reviewed and discussed the proposed performance targets and operational benchmarks for the financial year, aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability and overall performance of the public sector enterprises.

SJVN Organizes Tree Plantation Drive in Shimla under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign

To celebrate World Environment Day and promote environmental conservation, SJVN organized a significant tree plantation drive at Chamiyana in Shimla today under the campaign theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. Led by Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta, the initiative was executed in active collaboration with the Himachal Pradesh State Forest Department. Key dignitaries, including Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma, CVO Pankaj Porwal, and Lt. Col. SJVN CMD Reviews Progress of 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project in Nepal

NEW DELHI – Shri Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director of SJVN, along with Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), visited the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project in Nepal to review the progress of this strategically important cross-border hydropower venture. The delegation inspected key project sites, including the dam site at Phaksinda and the powerhouse facilities at Pukhuwa, where detailed briefings were given on construction progress, challenges posed by the Himalayan terrain and weather, and measures being adopted to ensure timely execution. Shri Gupta stressed the need to maintain the highest standards of safety, quality and efficiency, highlighting the importance of Arun-3 in strengthening clean energy cooperation between India and Nepal.

Commending the dedication of the workforce operating under challenging conditions, the CMD said the project is a flagship initiative that will significantly contribute to the energy security and economic development of both countries. He emphasised that the commissioning of Arun-3 will add 900 MW of clean and renewable energy, reinforcing regional cooperation and sustainable growth. Director (Personnel) Shri Ajay Kumar Sharma also appreciated the efforts of the project team and underlined the importance of discipline, teamwork and adherence to safety norms to achieve project milestones on schedule. The Arun-3 project is being developed by SJVN through its wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. in Nepal’s Sankhuwasabha district.

Award Ceremony Recognizes Outstanding Performance of CPSEs During Swachhta Pakhwada

The Ministry of Power organized an award ceremony on September 29th to honor the outstanding performance of CPSEs during Swachhta Pakhwada, held from May 16, 2025, to May 31, 2025. On this occasion, Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, awarded the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) for their contribution to the Ministry.

Among the CPSEs PowerGrid won the first prize, SJVN secured the second prize, and NHPC was awarded the third prize. Additionally, THDC India Limited and CPRI received consolation prizes.
