Tumkur,25^th October: In a continued effort to promote road safety across the country, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) recently conducted an impactful road safety awareness campaign in Tumkur, Karnataka. The campaign reached over 1,800 students and staff members from Kendriya Vidyalaya, reinforcing HMSI’s mission to foster responsible road behavior among young people.

Understanding the critical role of young minds in shaping the future, HMSI is dedicated to instilling road safety habits in children and youth. Through interactive and engaging programs, the company aims to significantly reduce road accidents and foster responsible road usage. These campaigns are held regularly across schools, colleges, and institutions, both government and non-government, to reach a broad audience.

The Tumkur road safety awareness campaign featured a variety of activities aimed at making road safety education both comprehensive and interactive. Participants took part in theoretical safety riding lessons, danger prediction training, road safety quizzes, helmet awareness sessions, and practical Riding Trainer exercises. Each activity was tailored to make road safety education both informative and engaging, ensuring that the lessons learned would have a lasting impact.

HMSI appreciates the support given by Kendriya Vidyalaya in making this initiative a success. The collaboration underscores the shared commitment to creating safer roads and reducing traffic accidents.

Since inception, in the state of Karnataka, HMSI has imparted education to nearly 3 lakh adults and children, focusing on promoting responsible road usage and cultivating safe riding habits. This campaign in Tumkur adds another milestone to HMSI’s ongoing efforts to make India’s roads safer for all.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s CSR commitment towards Road Safety:

In 2021, Honda announced its global vision statement for the year 2050 where it will strive for zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles. In India HMSI is working in line with this vision and the Government of India direction of reducing fatalities to half by 2030.

One critical aspect of achieving this goal is developing a positive mindset towards road safety in our children by the year 2030 and continuing to educate them thereafter. Road safety education at schools and colleges is not only to create awareness but to introduce a safety culture in young minds and transform them to be the road safety ambassadors. It empowers future generations to become responsible and significantly contribute to a safer society.

HMSI wants to be a company that Society wants to exist and is strongly focusing on spreading Road safety awareness to all sections of society with unique ideas catering to each segment from school kids to corporates and society at large.

HMSI’s set of skilled safety instructors conduct daily programs at our 10 adopted traffic training parks (TTP) across India and 6 Safety Driving Education Centers (SDEC) to make road safety education accessible to every part of society, and the initiative has already reached over 7.7 million Indians. HMSI’s National Road Safety Awareness program made learning fun yet scientific through:

SCIENTIFICALLY DEVISED LEARNING MODULE: Honda’s skilled instructors set the foundation with theory sessions on road signs & markings, driver’s duties on road, riding gear & posture explanation and safe riding etiquettes.

1. PRACTICAL LEARNING: A special training activity on Honda’s virtual riding simulator was executed for all to experience over 100 possible dangers on road before actual riding.
2. INTERACTIVE SESSION: Participants were given danger prediction training known as Kiken Yosoku Training (KYT) which helps in enhancing rider/driver’s sensitivity to danger and ensures safe driving behaviour on roads.
3. EXISTING DRIVERS HONING RIDING SKILLS: Students & school staff members who are already existing riders tested & honed their riding skills through slow riding activities and riding on narrow planks.

During the month, the company’s overall dispatches stood at 5,83,633 units, registering 11% YoY growth. This includes domestic sales of 5,36,391 units and 47,242 units exports. The domestic sales registered 9% YoY growth while the exports grew by a massive 34% over the same period of last year.

It is worth mentioning that HMSI’s YTD April – September 2024 domestic sales are 28,81,419 units and exports stood at 2,76,958 units.

Key Highlights of September 2024: 

Ø  Business Milestone: HMSI has achieved the remarkable feat of selling over 10 million units of ‘Activa’ cumulatively in the vibrant South Indian states & union territories of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Ø  Road Safety: Expanding road safety awareness in India, HMSI conducted awareness campaigns in 12 cities across India – Sukna (West Bengal), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Barrackpore (West Bengal), Bhilai (Chhattisgarh), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Bhavnagar (Gujarat), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Dindigul (Tamil Nadu), Baramati (Maharshtra), Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh), Solan (Himachal Pradesh) and Ajmer (Rajasthan). The company also celebrated the 5^th anniversary of its Safety Driving Education Centre in Kozhikode (Kerala). Additionally, HMSI organized Road Safety Conventions with school principals in Ahmedabad (Gujarat) as a part of ongoing project – Mindset Development for our Future Generation. 

Ø  CSR: Honda India Foundation (HIF) along with the Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC) and Visan Foundation launched “Project Buniyaad – Aathmanirbharta Ka Aadhar” in Mizoram that aims at providing employment to the unemployed youth from the marginal sections of the society. Additionally, HIF organized the felicitation ceremony for top performers of the Honda ki Pathshala at Honda Samajik Vikas Kendra, a multi-facility skill development center at Naurangpur (Haryana).

Ø  Motorsports: Mohsin Paramban seized double victory in Round 4 of 2024 IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup NSF250 category followed by Prakash Kamat at second and Siddesh Sawant at third position. Additionally, the IDEMITSU Honda Racing India team earned 1 point in Round 5 of 2024 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship, bringing their cumulative total to 13 points for the season in the Asia Production 250cc (AP250) class.
