										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Corona virus positive cases in Maharashtra are now increasing much faster than before. Today 18 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Maharashtra, news agencies reported. Out of 18, 16 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai and two more cases have been reported in Pune. With today&#8217;s 18 cases reported, the total number of cases in the state has escalated to 320. The deadly corona virus has killed 12 people in the state till now.</p>
<p>The total positive cases stood at: 169 in Mumbai, 50 in Pune, 36 in Thane region, 25 in Sangli, Nagpur 16, Ahmednagar 8, Yavatmal 4, Buldhana 3, 2 each in Satara and Kolhapur, one each in Aurangabad, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Gondia, Jalgaon, Nashik, besides one from Gujarat.</p>
<p>On Tuesday, 72 new corona virus patients were found in Maharashtra, 59 of them in Mumbai. This was the largest increase in the number of cases within a day probably in the country, a state official said.</p>
<p>Meanwhile Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray appealed to people to remain indoors and maintain social distancing. &#8220;The &#8216;war against virus&#8217; has reached a crucial stage and this is the time to exercise extreme precautions. Please do not step out of your homes for your own safety,&#8221; Thackeray said.</p>
<p>Salaries of ministers, other elected representatives as well as government officials in Maharashtra for March will be slashed by upto 60%, finance minister Ajit Pawar announced on Tuesday. Elected representatives including the chief minister, ministers and MLAs will get their salaries for March with 60% deduction. A and B grade government employees will get their salaries with 50% deduction while C grade employees will get salaries with 25% cut. There will be no cut in the salaries of D grade employees.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span class="mceItemHidden"><span class="hiddenSpellError">The</span> Election Commission of India (EC)  announced that <span class="hiddenSpellError">bypoll</span> to the <span class="hiddenSpellError">Satara</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Lok</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Sabha</span> seat will be held on October 21.</span>Voting will happen along with the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election.</p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">NCP MP <span class="hiddenSpellError">Udayanraje</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Bhosale</span> joined the Bharatiya Janata Party <span class="hiddenGrammarError">in the presence of</span> top saffron party leaders, including its president <span class="hiddenSpellError">Amit</span> Shah and Maharashtra Chief Minister <span class="hiddenSpellError">Devendra</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Fadnavis</span>, with Shah asserting that the <span class="hiddenSpellError">BJP-led</span> alliance will come back to power in the state with three-fourths majority. </span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden"><span class="hiddenSpellError">Bhosale</span>, who draws his political influence due to his <span class="hiddenSpellError">descendance</span> from Maratha king <span class="hiddenSpellError">Chhatrapati</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Shivaji&#8221;s</span> family, said he agreed with the policies pursued by Prime Minister <span class="hiddenSpellError">Narendra</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Modi</span> and will work for Maharashtra as a <span class="hiddenSpellError">BJP</span> leader.</span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">The <span class="hiddenSpellError">Satara</span> MP has quit his <span class="hiddenSpellError">Lok</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Sabha</span> membership to join the <span class="hiddenSpellError">BJP</span>. </span><span class="mceItemHidden">Shah said it was a matter of happiness for his party that <span class="hiddenGrammarError">a descendent of</span> the Maratha king has joined it and asserted that <span class="hiddenSpellError">Bhosale&#8221;s</span> presence will help it in the upcoming assembly elections. </span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">The <span class="hiddenSpellError">BJP</span>, which had won 122 of the total 288 seats in the 2014 elections, will emerge stronger and its alliance will win three-fourths seats this time, he said. </span>The Shiv Sena and a few smaller parties are part of the saffron alliance in the state.</p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">The <span class="hiddenSpellError">Fadnavis</span> government has worked for the <span class="hiddenSpellError">state&#8221;s</span> all-round development and &#8220;restored&#8221; its pride in its five-year rule, Shah added. </span><span class="mceItemHidden">Shah said the <span class="hiddenSpellError">BJP</span> and its alliance will receive even bigger support in the Assembly polls after it had decimated the Congress-NCP alliance in the recent <span class="hiddenSpellError">Lok</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Sabha</span> polls.</span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">On the occasion, <span class="hiddenSpellError">Fadnavis</span> also voiced his <span class="hiddenSpellError">party&#8221;s</span> happiness at <span class="hiddenSpellError">Bhosale&#8221;s</span> decision to join it.  </span><span class="mceItemHidden">He noted that <span class="hiddenSpellError">Bhosale</span> had lauded the <span class="hiddenSpellError">Modi</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">government&#8221;s</span> move to nullify Article 370, which given special status to Jammu and Kashmir. </span><span class="mceItemHidden">The decision to hold the <span class="hiddenSpellError">bypoll</span> <span class="hiddenGrammarError">was taken</span> after the Bombay High Court decided on an election petition on <span class="hiddenSpellError">Satara</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Lok</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Sabha</span> elections. The order reached the Commission on September 23.</span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">The <span class="hiddenSpellError">bypoll</span> <span class="hiddenGrammarError">was necessitated</span> after Member of Parliament (MP) from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP),  <span class="hiddenSpellError">Udayanraje</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Bhosale</span>, recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (<span class="hiddenSpellError">BJP</span>) after resigning from <span class="hiddenSpellError">Lok</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Sabha</span>. </span><span class="mceItemHidden">Counting of votes will happen on October 24 when the Assembly election votes <span class="hiddenGrammarError">are counted</span>.</span></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span class="mceItemHidden">At least 17 people have died by drowning during <span class="hiddenSpellError">Ganesh</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">visarjan</span> (idol immersion) across Maharashtra in the past 24 hours. Five people have also gone missing in different districts during the occasion.</span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">A large number of people across the state attended <span class="hiddenSpellError">Ganpati</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">visarjan</span> procession in their respective towns on Thursday amid tight security. Thursday marked the end of the 10-day long <span class="hiddenSpellError">Ganesh</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Chaturthi</span> festival, celebrated in Maharashtra with full fervour. </span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">However, the celebrations at various places were marred by incidents like these.Four people died in Amravati, followed by three in <span class="hiddenSpellError">Ratnagiri</span>, two each in <span class="hiddenSpellError">Nashik</span>, <span class="hiddenSpellError">Sindhudurg</span> and <span class="hiddenSpellError">Satara</span> and one each in Thane, <span class="hiddenSpellError">Dhule</span>, <span class="hiddenSpellError">Buldhana</span> and <span class="hiddenSpellError">Bhandara</span>. </span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">In a similar incident, 11 people have died after a boat capsized during <span class="hiddenSpellError">Ganpati</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Visarjan</span> at Bhopal&#8217;s <span class="hiddenSpellError">Khatlapura</span> <span class="hiddenSpellError">Ghat</span> on Friday morning. </span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden">Police along with the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (<span class="hiddenSpellError">SDERF</span>) people and a team of divers are carrying out the rescue operations. </span></p>
<p><span class="mceItemHidden"><span class="hiddenSpellError">Madhya</span> Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has directed a magisterial inquiry into the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to families of deceased.</span></p>
