Congress leaders Milind Deora and Sanjay Nirupam on Thursday asked Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut to withdraw his “ill-informed” remarks that former prime minister Indira Gandhi met underworld donKarim Lala.

Deora, who is the former Union minister, described Gandhi as a “true patriot who never compromised on India’s national security”.

Raut, whose party is part of the ruling alliance with the Congress and NCP in Maharashtra, on Wednesday claimed that Gandhi met Karim Lala in Mumbai.

Karim Lala was one of the three top underworld dons of Mumbai for over two decades, from the sixties to the early eighties, the other two being Mastan Mirza alias Haji Mastan and Varadarajan Mudaliar.

Deora said politicians should refrain from “distorting” legacies of prime ministers who are no more.

“Indira ji was a true patriot who never compromised on Indias national security,” he said in a tweet.

“As former @INCMumbai President, I demand that @rautsanjay61 ji withdraws his ill-informed statement.

Political leaders must show restraint before distorting the legacies of deceased Prime Ministers,” Deora further tweeted.

Former Mumbai Congress chief Nirupam said Raut will “repent” if he continues a “false campaign” against Gandhi.

Noting that Raut often shares “poetry of others”, Nirupam said it will be better if the Shiv Sena leader focuses on entertaining Maharashtra with such poetic stuff.

“It will be better if Shiv Sena’s Mr Shayar (poet) focuses on entertaining Maharashtra by sharing light-hearted poetry of others. He will have to repent if he carries out false campaign against former Prime Minister Indira Gandhiji.

He should withdraw the statement he gave about Indiraji yesterday,” Nirupam tweeted in Hindi.

During an interview to the Lokmat media group at its award function in Pune, Raut claimed, “When (underworld don) Haji Mastan came to Mantralaya, the entire secretariat would come down to see him. Indira Gandhi used to meet Karim Lala in Pydhonie (in south Mumbai).

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut have given a big statement about the formation of government in Maharashtra. Sanjay Raut has said that the Chief Minister of Shiv Sena will be for full 5 year term . So far, it has been the stand of Shiv Sena that the government will be formed on the basis of 50-50 formula and the Chief Minister of Shiv Sena will be for two and a half years.

Sanjay Raut said that in the coming two days it will be decided who will be the CM of Maharashtra. Raut said that it is the wish of the people of Maharashtra that Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray be the Chief Minister.
As per the sources new formula for power distribution will be based on numbers of MLAs of each party. as decided it will be one post for each 4 MLAs. so Shivsena will get 16 .Ncp 14 and Cong 12 in cabinet .
Shiv Sena: Uddhav Thackeray Chief Minister, 11 cabinet and 5 state ministers

NCP :Deputy Chief Minister, 10 Cabinet, 4 Minister of State Posts

Congress: Deputy Chief Minister, 7 Cabinet, 5 State Minister

Taking to Twitter, Raut said, “Kabhee Kabhee kuchh rishton se baahar hee aa jaana achchha hota hai .ahankaar ke lie nahin ..svaabhimaan ke lie (Sometimes it is good to come out of some relationships. Not for egotism .. For self-respect).

Hinting at the reason for the allies to part ways, Raut explained that at times some relationships need to be ended to uphold self-respect.

The BJP and Shiv Sena ended their alliance after a bitter tussle over power-sharing in the state. Sena had demanded a coalition government under 50:50 formula, including a rotational chief minister. The BJP, however, rejected the proposal and after days of discussion, Uddhav Thackeray’s party decided to end the alliance.

NCP-Congress alliance in Maharashtra ready to give CM post for shivsena for full 5 year. Even shivsena leader Sanjay Raut said to media the party would like to rule for next 25 years.

NCP leader Nawab Malik today said, “The rift between Shiv Sena and BJP was over the CM post. So we are not going to contest for the CM post. The CM will be from Shiv Sena.” Sena, however, has yet not taken a call on whether party chief Uddhav Thackeray will be the CM or will the party nominate someone else for the post. Sena legislature party leader Eknath Shinde is said to be another contender if Uddhav decides to stay out of the government.

The Shiv Sena has apparently sought for a 16-14-12 formula with NCP and Congress. The development comes three days after President’s rule was imposed in the state after Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari in a report to the Centre stated that formation of a stable government was impossible in the current situation despite all his efforts, drawing flak from non-BJP parties.

In a fresh development, sources said that Shiv Sena is adamant on chief ministerial post for the party for all five years, while NCP may propose for 50-50 sharing of the position. Talks can take place on this as well, a source said, adding that issues related to common minimum program has been sorted and consensus has been “broadly reached upon”.

A source said that Congress does not want to give impression it had gone soft on Sena. Instead it wants to give out a message it was the Uddhav Thackeray-led that approached it. The source added that between NCP and Congress, the UPA allies want six key ministries, including revenue, urban development and home.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai on Friday, Sanjay Raut was seen carefully choosing his words while talking on the tussle over CM post. “We want a Sena CM for the next 25 years. Why should we be thinking of just five years? We are here in Maharashtra and we will always be with the state,” he said.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar are likely to meet in Delhi on November 17 to discuss possible alliance with the Shiv Sena for forming government in Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena has said that the talk with the BJP would be only on the proposal of CM’s chair for 2.5 years. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said, “If President’s rule is imposed in the Maharashtra, it will be disrespect to people of the state.”

Uddhav Thackeray will meet District Presidents of Shiv Sena at 12 pm at Shiv Sena Bhawan. Both BJP and Shiv Sena will have to reach agreement by tonight, failing which the state might head for President’s Rule.
Meanwhile NITIN GADKARI coming navi Mumbai in a program and he may meet Uddhav Thakrey in evening if talks on . After Shiv Sena alleged that BJP is trying to poach its MLAs, the MLAs were shifted to Hotel Rangsharda, minutes drive from Matoshree. Aaditya Thackeray met party MLAs at the hotel late in the night yesterday. Today, Nitin Gadkari is expected to meet Uddhav Thackeray at later’s residence. Decision related to government formation will be taken likely today as the tenure of the previous government ends in few hours from now.

BJP also called its all MLA to Mumbai to disscuss further course of action and party in mood to recomand president rule so they will get time to negotiate with SHIV SENA .

The BJP and the Shiv Sena are locked in a tug-of-war over the issue of the chief minister’s post, resulting in a stalemate in government formation. The Shiv Sena has claimed top leaders of the party and the BJP had “agreed” on sharing the chief minister’s post on a rotational basis and 50:50 distribution of portfolio ahead of the October 21 assembly polls in the state. The BJP has, however, denied any such arrangement wit the Uddhav Thackeray-led party and has insisted Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will continue to hold the post for full term.

Sanjay Raut in a tweet shared a couplet from Bhagwad Gita invoking the message of not running away from challenges but struggle with it.

Shiv Sena leader Kishore Tiwari has asked Mohan Bhagwat to step in Maharashtra political crisis and ask the BJP to follow “coalition dharma”.

The Sena, has claimed that the BJP had agreed to a 50:50 power share in the state ahead of the general elections. the Sena claimes a rotational system for the Chief Minister’s post and half the state’s ministerial berths.

In his letter to Mohan Bhagwat, Mr Tiwari said the state has delivered a mandate in favour of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. But the BJP’s failure to follow ‘coalition dharma’ is delaying the formation of new government in Maharashtra. Therefore, the RSS “should intervene and resolve the issue,” the letter read.

There has been no response from the RSS but a Nagpur based and RSS supported news paper TARUN BHARAT targeted shivsena for power tussel . Without naming Sanjay Raut, “Tarun Bharat”, said the leader was hurting the chances of BJP-Sena alliance to come to power in Maharashtra.

The pro-right wing daily also called him a “joker” and said “his attempts to portray a picture that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is isolated in the BJP is nothing but pure entertainment.”

Sanjay Raut, the Sena’s Rajya Sabha member and executive editor of its mouthpiece “Saamana”, has been at the forefront of voicing his party’s demands over equal distribution of power and sharing of the chief minister’s post with the BJP in the next Maharashtra government.

The Marathi daily published an editorial titled “Uddhav and Betaal” today which said: “Late Balasaheb Thackeray spent his entire life for wresting power from the Congress and NCP. But this Betaal is
trying hard to shatter his dreams and there will be no disappointment like this to see the Sena dragging behind one loud-mouth.”

Furious with the lack of response from the BJP camp, the Sena has even announced that it was ready to go with Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress to form government.

Even after a meeting between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and BJP chief Amit Shah, the BJP has not issued response. After the meeting on Monday morning, Mr Fadnavis told reporters that there is a need to form the government in Maharashtra at the earliest and it would be formed.

There was no word on how the BJP would go about it or on any negotiation with the Sena.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Union Home Minister Amit Shah here on Monday as the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena continue their tussle over government formation in the state.

Fadnavis reached here Monday morning to meet Shah, also the BJP president, party insiders said.

The meeting was held at Shah’s residence.

Unlike the last assembly elections, the BJP and the Shiv Sena this time fought elections in alliance with each other. The BJP won 105 seats and the Shiv Sena 56.

The two parties are caught in a stalemate over the chief minister’s post, with the Sena demanding an equal division of the top post’s tenure and the BJP rejecting it.

However, officially Fadnavis is meeting Shah to seek more help from the centre for a package for Maharashtra’s farmers whose crops have been affected by unseasonal rains.

The impasse between the saffron allies, BJP and Shiv Sena, over their power-sharing pact has continued for 10 days after the result for Assembly polls were announced on October 24.

Both the BJP and the Shiv Sena have not made any new moves in the last couple of days, with both sides adamant on their positions and trying to drive a hard bargain. The Sena has made it clear that it would not settle for anything less than the sharing of the CM post, but BJP says it never promised that to its ally.

Both Fadnavis and Uddhav Thackeray have been touring drought-hit areas and backchannel talks are likely to resume once they return, sources said.

Amid the stalemate, Shiv Sena put the BJP on notice on Sunday as the party seems to have reached out to the Sharad Pawar-led party.

The speculation that Sena was exploring alternative options other than the ally BJP got strengthened when senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar showed reporters a phone message from Sena MP Sanjay Raut, which just contained a formal introduction of and greetings from the latter.

Speaking on the message, former deputy chief minister Pawar said, “This means I should call him. I will call and check.”

Notably, amidst the power tussle between the Sena and the BJP, the NCP has maintained that it would sit in the Opposition. But NCP chief Sharad Pawar held a closed-door meeting with his party leaders in Mumbai on Saturday to explore an alternate possibility of forming the government with Sena.

Mr Raut, who is leaving no stone unturned to come out with a solution on Sena’s demand of 50:50 division of power in the state, shared a popular couplet by poet Wasim Barelvi on Twitter on Sunday, taking a veiled jibe at the BJP.

The 57-year-old leader wrote: “ऊसूलों पर जहां आंच आये टकराना जरूरी है .जो जिंदा हो तो फिर जिंदा नजर आना जरुरी है.

Meanwhile, Mr Raut along with other senior party leaders is likely to meet Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Monday at 5 pm.

“Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, along with other senior party leaders, is scheduled to meet Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at 5 pm tomorrow,”

Mr Raut has also said that he will meet the Governor on Sunday and ask him to invite the single largest party to form the government in Maharashtra.

Mr Raut has claimed that Shiv Sena has the support of 170 MLAs and is capable of forming the next government in Maharashtra.

“We have more than 170 MLAs supporting us, the figure can even reach 175,” he had said while addressing a press conference in Mumbai.

The development comes at a time when the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena are engaged in a bitter tug-of-war over the equal distribution of Cabinet portfolios and the term of chief minister’s post for 2.5 years each.

While the BJP is firm on their stand that Devendra Fadnavis will become the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena is seeking an equal term for chief minister”s post.

On Sunday, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar had said that Mr Raut dropped a text message to him. “This is the first time after elections that he has contacted me. I do not know why he messaged me. His message reads ”Jai Maharashtra Saheb, I am Sanjay Raut”. I will call him in a while to know about it,” Mr Pawar had said.

The current term of Maharashtra government ends on November 8. State Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar had earlier said the state might head for the President’s rule if the government is not formed before November 7.
