Samsung at 30: India Has Become a Global Innovation Hub for Samsung, Says JB Park

INDIA – Sep 07, 2026 – India has evolved from being a market where global technologies were introduced to a country helping imagine, engineer and develop technology for the world, Samsung South West Asia President and CEO JB Park said as Samsung marks 30 years in India.

“What inspires me most about India is that it constantly exceeds expectations,” Park said. “Today, we don’t look at India just as a market of 1.4 billion people. We see India as a place where the future of technology is being imagined, developed and led.”

Samsung entered India in 1995. Over the past three decades, as India transformed into one of the world’s fastest-growing digital and innovation economies, Samsung expanded its manufacturing footprint, strengthened its research and design capabilities and invested in building an innovation ecosystem in the country.

“The story of Samsung in India has never been about selling products. It has been about growing together,” Park said. “But more importantly, we evolved from bringing technology to India to creating technology with India.”

Creating Technology with India

India’s scale, diversity and rapidly evolving technology landscape are increasingly shaping how Samsung approaches innovation.

Samsung’s R&D engineers in Bengaluru and Noida work alongside colleagues across its global R&D network, contributing to technologies and experiences for India as well as the rest of the world.

“India challenges us to innovate differently,” Park said. “Building products for a country of this scale and diversity means designing solutions that are intuitive, inclusive and relevant to millions of people with very different needs. Those innovations often go on to benefit consumers around the world.”

As artificial intelligence transforms consumer technology, Samsung’s engineers in India are also collaborating with global teams to develop next-generation AI experiences.

“AI will only be meaningful if it solves real problems for real people. And, there are few places that challenge us to do that better than India,” Park said.

Investing in the People Who Will Build What Comes Next

Samsung’s investments in India have also extended beyond manufacturing and R&D to talent, skills, education and innovation.

“Technology does not create progress on its own. People do,” Park said. “We believe human potential is the most important technology platform of all.”

Samsung is nurturing future innovators through programmes such as Samsung Innovation Campus and Solve for Tomorrow. Samsung Innovation Campus equips young people with future technology skills including AI and coding, while Solve for Tomorrow gives young innovators a platform, mentorship and support to turn ideas into solutions to real-world problems.

Now in its fifth year in India, Solve for Tomorrow is also evolving beyond a competition into what Park described as an “innovation pipeline”, as young people identify problems in their communities and use technology to develop potential solutions.

“Young people are using technology to solve some of the most pressing problems faced by society,” Park said. “That is exactly the kind of innovation India needs now and in future.”

Looking ahead, Park said Samsung’s ambition is to help India lead the next wave of innovations that can improve lives around the world.

As Samsung marks three decades in the country, he said its legacy in India should ultimately be measured not only by the products, manufacturing ecosystem and research capabilities it has helped build, but by the people and ideas it has helped nurture.

“I don’t believe our legacy will ultimately be defined by the devices we made,” Park said. “I believe it will be defined by the dreams we helped unlock.”

“If Samsung can play even a small role in helping shape that generation, it would be our greatest achievement in India,” he added. “Because the most enduring technologies are not always the ones we build. Sometimes, they are the ideas we ignite in people.”

GURUGRAM, India – July 30, 2026 — Samsung India today announced the Top 100 teams selected for the fifth edition of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, the company’s flagship innovation programme that empowers young people to build technology-driven solutions for real-world challenges.

Chosen from thousands of applications received from across the country, the shortlisted teams represent a new generation of innovators solving problems that matter to their communities. Their ideas span artificial intelligence, healthcare, education, accessibility, sports and environmental sustainability, demonstrating how technology can improve everyday life.

As Samsung celebrates 30 years in India, the fifth edition of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is its biggest and most ambitious yet, reflecting the company’s long-term commitment to nurturing India’s innovation ecosystem and empowering young people to contribute to the vision of Digital India and Viksit Bharat.

This year’s Top 100 reflects the changing geography of innovation in India. Over half of the shortlisted teams come from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, underscoring how talent and entrepreneurial ambition are flourishing far beyond the country’s largest metropolitan centres.

The cohort includes young innovators from Medchal-Malkajgiri (Telangana), Kaithal (Haryana), Sundargarh (Odisha), Narmadapuram (formerly Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh), Buxar (Bihar), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and Kamrup (Assam), alongside participants from India’s metropolitan regions. This growing diversity reflects Samsung’s belief that transformative ideas can emerge from anywhere when young people are given access to mentorship, technology and opportunity.

The Top 100 teams will develop innovative solutions across four themes – AI Living for India, Health and Education, Sport & Tech, and Environmental Sustainability, addressing real-world challenges through technology. Some of their ideas are highlighted below.

Turning Ideas into Impact

The Top 100 teams will now advance to the next phase of Samsung Solve for Tomorrow where they will receive mentoring from startup founders, industry experts and academic mentors from FITT-IIT Delhi to transform promising ideas into scalable innovations.

The Top 40 teams will progress to a 10-day Innovation Bootcamp, where they will receive intensive mentoring from startup founders and industry experts at FITT-IIT Delhi. They will also have an opportunity to visit Samsung R&D Institute India-Delhi, Samsung R&D Institute India-Bangalore, Samsung R&D Institute India-Noida, Samsung Design Delhi and Samsung India Head Office in Gurugram.

Supporting Innovation Beyond the Competition

Each Top 100 team will receive a certificate recognizing its achievement.

The Top 40 teams will collectively receive INR 8 lakh along with the latest Samsung laptops for every team member to accelerate prototype development.

Top 20 teams will collectively receive INR 20 lakh for prototype enhancement, along with the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip smartphones for every team member. They will then advance to Grand Finale, where they will present their final innovations before a distinguished jury comprising Samsung R&D leaders and industry experts.

During the Grand Finale, the programme will also feature two Community Choice Award carrying a cumulative cash prize of INR 2 lakh, and one Digital Impact Award carrying a cash prize of INR 50,000.

The four winning teams will collectively receive a INR 2 crore grant along with incubation support from FITT-IIT Delhi, enabling them to accelerate the development and commercialisation of their innovations.

Now in its fifth year in India, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow has become one of the country’s largest youth innovation platforms, encouraging young people aged 14-22 years to combine creativity, technology and entrepreneurship to solve pressing societal challenges.

First launched in the US in 2010, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is now conducted in 68 countries, with more than three million young people having participated worldwide. The programme reflects Samsung’s global CSR vision, “Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People”, empowering young people through education, innovation and technology to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Opportunities to innovate, traditionally, have been concentrated in India’s urban centres and metro cities, leaving young innovators spread across the larger area of the geography with limited access to structured problem-solving and mentorship.

Samsung Solve for Tomorrow’s Design Thinking Workshops, conducted across 100 cities in 2026, are helping bridge that gap by introducing students to a structured innovation process. As participants move through each stage of Design Thinking, they develop skills that extend well beyond the competition.

1. Human-Centric Problem Solving
Every meaningful innovation begins with understanding people before building technology. At Government Degree College, Baramulla, Zamin Anayat Lone discovered this while working through the empathize and define stages of Samsung’s Design Thinking framework. Instead of jumping to an AI solution, he examined emergency response gaps and community needs before shaping an AI-powered SOS application around a clearly defined problem.

2. Applying STEM to Real-World Challenges
Traffic congestion is becoming a growing concern in rapidly urbanising towns such as Bhiwadi. During the ideate and prototype stages, Veeru Kumar Verma from MSME Technology College explored how AI and real-time information systems could improve parking management. The exercise demonstrated how STEM concepts become more meaningful when applied to everyday challenges.

3. Entrepreneurial Thinking
Good ideas rarely succeed without guidance, mentorship and opportunities to test them. Through Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, students move beyond ideation into an innovation ecosystem that includes mentorship, incubation at FITT, IIT Delhi and incubation grants worth INR 2 crore for the top four teams. For Mohammad Atif from Kongu Engineering College, Erode, this shifted entrepreneurship from a classroom concept to a structured journey.

4. Collaborative Mindset
At New Era School, Ghaziabad, Disha Garg and Rashi Sharma learnt this by working through empathy mapping, stakeholder analysis and iterative problem-solving together before developing an AI-enabled application for India’s digital delivery ecosystem. The process reinforced the importance of building solutions through shared perspectives.

5. Purpose-Driven Innovation
The most valuable outcome of Design Thinking is learning to measure success by impact rather than novelty. At Shoolini University, Solan, Class XII student Mahek focused on solving a specific community challenge instead of pursuing an abstract idea.
By taking the methodology to inspire structured innovation in young innovators residing beyond the metro cities, Samsung Solve for Tomorrow is expanding access to entrepreneurial skills that prepare young innovators to address real-world challenges.

GURUGRAM, India – May 25, 2026 – Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, marks 30 years of its customer service journey in India, tracing its evolution from a small service operation in Delhi in the mid-1990s to one of the country’s largest and most digitally-connected customer care ecosystems.
When Service Was Still Analog

The story of Samsung’s customer service evolution closely mirrors India’s own technological transformation — from an era of handwritten complaint registers, pagers and physical service visits to AI-powered diagnostics, connected appliances and predictive care ecosystems.

When Samsung opened its first service centre in India in March 1996, the country looked very different. Phones and internet were rare and customer requests were manually recorded in registers resting on crowded office desks.

“Back then, customer care was deeply personal in the most literal sense. Customers often walked directly into service centres because telephones were not common in homes. Service requests were manually entered into registers, and engineers travelled across cities carrying logbooks, paper slips and toolkits,” said Rajiv Gupta, Director, Service Operations, Samsung India.

By December 1996, Samsung had already expanded to 21 service centres across India. In 1997, engineers began using pagers to receive customer alerts — a small but important technological leap at the time.
Building the Infrastructure of Trust

As India’s consumer technology market rapidly expanded, Samsung continued scaling its customer support ecosystem. The late 1990s saw the growth of franchise service centres across the country, while 2003 marked another major milestone with the launch of Samsung’s first in-house call centre at Nehru Place in Delhi and the introduction of a toll-free customer support number.

Over the next two decades, Samsung steadily transformed customer service from a reactive support function into an integrated, technology-driven customer experience ecosystem.

Today, Samsung operates one of India’s largest customer service infrastructures with over 3,000 service touchpoints, 12,500+ trained engineers and 16 strategically located parts warehouses across the country.
“What truly defines Samsung’s customer service journey is how closely it has evolved alongside the lives of Indian consumers,” said Sunil Cutinha, Head, Customer Satisfaction, Samsung India.

Predictive Care

Samsung’s service ecosystem today extends far beyond physical service centres into AI-enabled proactive and connected care experiences.

Through SmartThings-enabled Proactive Care powered by Home Appliances Remote Management (HRM), Samsung appliances can proactively detect performance issues and notify customers even before disruptions occur. Refrigerators can alert users if cooling efficiency drops unexpectedly, while air conditioners can proactively communicate maintenance requirements.

Customers today can access 24×7 support through toll-free helplines, WhatsApp assistance, remote diagnostics and online appointment booking platforms. Samsung’s voice support services are available in 10 Indian languages, helping make customer support more accessible across regions.

The company has also strengthened digital-first support offerings such as Pick and Drop service for smartphones and the Digital Service Center platform, which provides self-help videos, troubleshooting support and transparent pricing information.

AI-driven customer support technologies — including intelligent co-pilots, speech-to-text systems and sentiment analysis tools — are additionally helping service teams respond faster and more empathetically to customer concerns.

Relationships that Last Forever

“Samsung has been a part of my life for three decades now. Our first television was a Samsung, and later the first smartphone I bought for my son was a Galaxy device. What has remained constant over the years is the trust and reliability associated with the brand,” said Sanjeev Gupta, a long-time Samsung customer from Ludhiana, Punjab.
