The appointment comes as IRCON continues to execute major rail, transport and infrastructure projects across India and overseas.

A seasoned railway professional with extensive experience in project execution, infrastructure development and public sector leadership, Ahmad is expected to provide continuity in leadership while supporting IRCON’s growth and strategic priorities. The move reflects the government’s continued emphasis on strengthening leadership across key public sector enterprises that are playing a critical role in India’s infrastructure modernisation and connectivity initiatives.

His leadership in executing large-scale metro, bridge, and tunnel projects—along with his advocacy for sustainable and connected urban mobility—has been widely recognized.

Ahmad emerged as the top choice following a rigorous interview process that included several senior executives from across the public sector. His name has now been forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval, subject to mandatory vigilance and procedural clearances.
