The camp aimed at promoting awareness among school students about various aspects of adolescent health and encouraging healthy habits for a healthier future. In all 82 students were screened during the programme, including 27 students from Kindergarten to Standard I and 55 students from Classes IX and X.

A team of medical specialists from Ispat General Hospital attended the camp and interacted with the students. The medical team included Dr. Aishwarya Mishra, Paediatrician; Dr. Ajay Jena, Paediatrician and Dr. Chandrakala Rani, Obstetrics & Gynaecology specialist.

The programme covered important aspects of adolescent well-being, including nutrition and fitness, mental health, growth and development, puberty and sexual health, substance-abuse awareness and preventive healthcare. The students were also encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyle practices and seek timely medical advice whenever required.

The initiative reflects the commitment of IGH and the CSR Department of Rourkela Steel Plant towards community health and preventive healthcare, with a special focus on the health and well-being of children and adolescents..

Mr. Biranchi Narayan Sahoo sustained serious injuries in a road accident on 19th July 2026 after being hit by a vehicle in Civil Township, Raurkela. He was initially taken to private hospital, where a CT scan of the brain revealed a serious collection of blood over the brain along with significant brain injury. He was subsequently referred to IGH in a critical condition.

On arrival at IGH, the patient was immediately placed on ventilator support and taken up for emergency brain surgery. The surgery was performed by Dr. Manoj Kumar Deo, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon, with anaesthesia support from Dr. Sanjukta Panigrahi, Additional CMO, Anaesthesia. Nursing Officer Lipika provided crucial intraoperative assistance. Following surgery, the patient required prolonged intensive care and ventilator support. The ICU team, led by Sister Shiny George, along with the nursing and critical care staff, provided continuous monitoring and care during the critical phase of his recovery.

Gradually, the patient’s condition started improving. He was successfully weaned from ventilator support and subsequently underwent a temporary tracheostomy to facilitate breathing during his recovery. With further improvement, he was shifted from the ICU to the ward. Over the following days, his level of consciousness steadily improved. He began following simple commands, interacting intermittently with his relatives and gradually accepting food orally. Once he was able to maintain adequate oral intake and breathe independently, the temporary tracheostomy was successfully removed.

The ward nursing team, including Gouri, Manaswini, Manisha, Nomita, Priyanka and other dedicated nursing staff, continued close monitoring, nursing care and support throughout his recovery. Intensive and individualised physiotherapy also played an important role in helping the patient regain strength and mobility following his prolonged critical illness. Physiotherapy care was provided by Mr. Premananda Swain and his team.

After 23 days of hospitalisation, Mr. Sahoo regained consciousness, was able to follow simple commands, take adequate food orally and walk with the support of one person. He is now planned for discharge in an improved condition.

The case highlights the importance of timely emergency intervention, advanced critical care, dedicated nursing and structured rehabilitation in the management of severe head injuries. The coordinated efforts of the Neurosurgery, Anaesthesia, ICU, Nursing and Physiotherapy teams at IGH contributed significantly to the patient’s recovery.

The successful outcome reflects the importance of multidisciplinary care in managing complex and life-threatening trauma cases at Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela.

In the Workmen category Ayeskanta Sahu, Engineering Associate (Flux & Refractory) bagged the first prize, while the 2nd and 3rd spots went to Mr. Arupananda Pradhan, Engineering Associate, (New Plate Mill) and Mr. Asif Husain Sidik, Junior Engineering Associate (Coke Ovens).

In the Executive category, the first place was won by Mr. Anup Agarwal, Senior Manager (Services). Ms. Sangeeta M Sindur, AGM (HR) got the 2nd position while Ms. Neha Dash, Consultant (Medical) bagged the third place.

The 8th edition of this award, launched in January 2023 under My RSP-My Identity unique initiative, saw enthusiastic participation from employees, showcasing their strong bond with RSP. 2762 employees of RSP made entries in RSP Portal Employee Zone (both Web and Mobile App). Out of these 262 employees comprising 147 executives and 115 workmen shared their feelings about RSP every day from 17th July to 31st July, 2026. As part of the initiative, employees were required to write at least one complete sentence of positive thoughts about RSP every day during the given time period.

These entries were evaluated online by a committee of Senior Officers without the knowledge of the credentials of the employees and submitted their marks on a daily basis. Based on their evaluations, the top three employees from both executive and non-executive categories were bestowed with the RSP Gaurab award.

The competition aimed to foster a sense of pride among employees and encourage a habit of positive thinking and speaking well about the plant.

During July, the order-versus-dispatch fulfilment for critical sections and special steel components from the Plate Mill stood at 91.7%, while the New Plate Mill achieved 91.6% fulfilment. Similarly, HR Plate from the Hot Strip Mill recorded 91.6% fulfilment, whereas HR Coil for sale achieved nearly 92%.

RSP also achieved 100% fulfilment in the case of PET products and plates produced by the Special Plate Plant. Overall, against an order of 1,49,094 tonnes of special steel components during July, the plant dispatched 1,37,397 tonnes, registering 92.2% fulfilment.

During the April–July period of the current financial year, RSP received orders for 6,02,271 tonnes of special and critical sections and dispatched 5,54,818 tonnes, thereby achieving 92.1% fulfilment.

The share of special steel components in RSP’s total saleable steel production also increased significantly. During July, special steel accounted for 39.9% of total saleable steel production. For the April–July period, the share stood at 39.8%, registering significant improvement over the corresponding period last year.

With a clearly defined strategy, RSP is continuously moderating and optimising its product basket to increase the share of special and value-added steel. This focused approach is aimed at creating greater value from its products, improving market responsiveness and strengthening the plant’s bottom line.

Around 50 students participated in the awareness programme at Gyan Jyoti Public School. The programme was conducted by Dr. Abhilash Sahoo, Paediatrics, Dr. Siddharth Kumar Meher, Paediatrics and Dr. Twinkle Rani, O&G. The doctors interacted with the students and sensitised them about various aspects of adolescent health, with special emphasis on the importance of HPV vaccination in preventing HPV-related diseases, including cervical cancer.

A similar programme was organised at Ispat DAV Public School, Sector-16, with around 67 students participated. The sessions were conducted by Dr. Bikash Chandra Patra, Paediatrics, Dr. Soomi Bhakat, Paediatrics and Dr. Sanjoo Yadav, O&G. The students were encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyle practices and were provided age-appropriate information on physical and reproductive health, personal hygiene, nutrition and preventive healthcare.

A key focus of both programmes was creating awareness about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, which plays an important role in protecting against HPV infections and reducing the risk of cervical cancer. The doctors addressed students’ queries in an interactive manner and highlighted the importance of timely vaccination and informed health choices during adolescence.

Notably, the HPV vaccine is also available free of cost at Ispat General Hospital (IGH) every Saturday from 5PM to 7PM, enabling eligible beneficiaries to access preventive vaccination services.

The Shivir was formally inaugurated by Mr. Tarun Misra, Executive Director–HR, Rourkela Steel Plant, at the Indo-German Club on 10 August 2026. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Misra said that the programme would provide an opportunity for participants from across SAIL to reflect, learn and exchange ideas on strengthening performance assessment and nurturing talent within the organisation.

Mr. Sanjay Virmani, former Chief Human Resources Officer, Tata Steel, and Mr. Atish Chandra Sarkar, CGM I/c–Services, Rourkela Steel Plant, along with senior officers of Rourkela Steel Plant and officials from BCG, were present on the occasion.

The inaugural session featured addresses by Mr. Atish Chandra Sarkar and Mr. Sanjay Virmani, who shared their valuable thoughts, insights and perspectives on performance management, organisational growth and people development.

It is noteworthy that, DARPAN stands for ‘Driving Advancement by Reimagining Performance Assessment and Nurturing’. The initiative aims to make performance management clearer, more transparent and objective through well-defined roles, SMART Key Performance Areas (KPAs) and measurable targets. It also seeks to strengthen accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement while nurturing employees and fostering a culture of excellence.

The promotion orders were presented to them by Mr. Tarun Misra, ED(HR) at a ceremony held at Manthan Conference Hall, on 6th August, 2026.   Present on the occasion were Mr. B K Giri, ED (MD-CMLO), Mr. Biswaranjan Palai, ED (Works), Mr. Sudip Pal Chowdhury, ED (Projects), Dr. Jayanta Kumar Acharya, CMO In-Charge (M&HS), Mr. Rajesh Dasgupta, CGM (F&A) with additional charge of ED (F&A) and other senior officers of the plant. The newly promoted CGMs were accompanied by their spouses.

Congratulating the newly promoted Senior Officers, tMr. Misra said, “CGM promotion is regarded as one of the toughest promotions and with this promotion the Company has entrusted you with a much bigger responsibility.” He also appreciated each of the promoted CGMs by sharing personal experiences with all of them. The other Senior Officers also congratulated the newly promoted CGMs and wished them a bright future in the organisation. The ED HR also gifted them a book along with the sweet boxes and promotion orders.

The promoted executives present on the occasion, responded enthusiastically and assured that they would make every possible effort to better the performance of the Steel Plant. Mr. Vigyan Patra, Deputy Manager (HR-OD) anchored the programme while Mr. Rakesh Verma, GM (HR-OD & L&D) coordinated the event.

The keynote sessions and interactive discussions highlighted how corporate communication has fundamentally shifted from traditional press releases to a strategic tool for shaping narratives, fostering trust, and sparking meaningful dialogue. Key speakers emphasized that modern public relations must operate proactively rather than reactively, prioritizing audience trust over simple visibility. The core framework of contemporary PR was defined through the “SATE” principle—focusing on Speed, Authenticity, Transparency, and Engagement—to build genuine connections and navigate today’s fast-paced media environment.

Concluding the seminar, participants reflected on the transformative power of storytelling in driving organizational success and culture. Today, PR extends beyond simple reputation management to actively influencing societal values and public perception. As highlighted during the event, modern audiences do not merely engage with brands or products; they connect with authentic stories that reflect their personal values, proving that in this dynamic era, the most compelling and authentic narratives will always prevail.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. B.R. Palai, ED(W), RSP. Also present on the occasion were Mr. R. Dasgupta, CGM, Finance, holding additional charge of ED, Finance; Mr. S. Chattopadhay, CGM, RDCIS, RSP Centre; and Mr. Sumit Kumar, CGM, BF, RSP.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Palai highlighted that the primary objective of the workshop was cost reduction and urged participants to come up with practical and implementable ideas that could bring measurable improvement in key techno-economic parameters. He emphasised the importance of translating technical discussions into actionable outcomes that would contribute to the plant’s overall performance.

The workshop focused on strengthening iron-making practices and improving Blast Furnace performance through structured sessions on productivity enhancement, cost optimization and operational discipline. The sessions were designed to encourage practical exchanges among plant personnel and to generate actionable ideas for improving process efficiency and product quality.

Technical sessions began with discussions on iron-making fundamentals and BF operation, during which experts explained the key process parameters influencing hot metal quality and furnace efficiency.

Throughout the day, technical presentations covered methods for improving plant performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing cost-effective measures in day-to-day operations.

In the afternoon, the participants engaged in syndicate preparation, where they were divided into groups to deliberate on specific performance issues and suggest practical interventions. Each syndicate later presented its recommendations in the final session, outlining measures to improve productivity, reduce hot metal silicon and optimise operational costs.

The PIW was recognised as an important initiative for reinforcing operational excellence and promoting a shared understanding of furnace performance management. The program was coordinated by Mr. BBK Behera, DGM, BF along with Ms Jyoti Oreya, AGM, HR-L&D, Ms. Jyotirmayee Routia, Sr. Manager, HR-L&D.

The Micro Pellet Plant, the first of its kind in SAIL, has been established on a Construct, Operate and Maintain (COM) basis by M/s Shri Jagannath Steels & Power Ltd. The project has been set up with the objective of converting waste fines generated during the steelmaking process into value-added micro pellets for use in RSP’s sinter plants, thereby promoting circular economy and environmental sustainability and was commissioned ahead of targeted schedule.

Notably, the plant will process waste fines such as SMS and Blast Furnace sludges, ESP and bag filter dust, and other micron-sized iron-bearing materials that have accumulated over the years. Through a specialized agglomeration process, these materials will be converted into micro pellets of 1–6 mm size, making them suitable for utilization in the sinter making process.

The commissioning of the facility marks a major milestone in RSP’s journey towards cleaner, greener and more sustainable operations. Besides mitigating environmental concerns associated with waste disposal, the plant will enable recovery and reuse of valuable constituents such as iron (Fe), calcium oxide (CaO) and magnesium oxide (MgO), thereby reducing raw material consumption and enhancing overall process efficiency.
