Electrical Safety Awareness Programme and Quiz Competition held at SAIL, RSP

As a part of the Monthly Safety Theme observation, a Safety Awareness Programme followed by a Quiz Competition on Electrical Safety was organised at Power Distribution Department of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 12^th July, 2025. The event aimed at enhancing awareness and reinforcing a proactive safety culture among employees.

The programme was graced by the presence of Mrs. Asha S Kartha, CGM (Safety and Fire Services), Mr. Suvendu Kumar Behera, GM& HoD (Power Distribution), and Mr. G.B. Mishra, GM (Power Distribution). The dignitaries addressed the gathering and stressed the significance of electrical safety in everyday operations. They shared insights from past incidents and urged all present to adopt safe practices and remain alert at all times.

Mr. T.N. Mishra, Deputy Manager (Power Distribution) presented a self-composed poem on Electrical Safety, which conveyed the dangers of electrical hazards and the importance of precautionary measures during the event.

A brief awareness session was conducted by Mr. Nilakanth Sethi, Deputy Manager, (Safety Engineering Department). He shared several real-life incident cases and underlined the importance of drawing lessons from the past to prevent future mishaps.

A total of 44 employees of Power Distribution, AC, HM (E), and Repair Shop Electrical departments took part in the quiz competition.

Mrs. Shanti Kumari, GM (Power Distribution) proposed the vote of thanks. The entire programme was held under the guidance of Mr. R K Muduli, CGM (Electrical) and was coordinated by Mr. Dolagovinda Sethi, Senior Manager, DSO (Power Distribution) and Mr. Ritesh Kumar Patel, Assistant Manager (SED).

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant organises innovative Safety Awareness Programme with ‘Mobile Demo Van’

SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) organized a unique and impactful safety awareness programme, featuring a specially designed ‘Mobile Demo Van’ equipped with the latest personal protective equipments (PPE). The event was inaugurated by Mr. S. R. Suryawanshi, Executive Director (Works), in the presence of Mrs. Asha Kartha, CGM (Safety & Fire Services) on 20^th August, 2024. Many other CGMs and Senior Officers of the plant were present on the occasion. The ED (Works) went around the exhibits in the Demo Van and witnessed the live demo of varied safety appliances. He stressed the importance of increasing awareness about the correct usage of PPEs among employees and contract labor, expressing confidence that the initiative would significantly bolster the plant’s safety culture and support RSP’s goal of becoming a zero-harm facility. Mrs. Asha Kartha highlighted the importance of the daylong event in promoting safety practices.

It is noteworthy that employees as well as contract labor from different departments visited the ‘Mobile Demo Van’ stationed at the Safety Engineering Department. It showcased live demonstrations of a wide range of safety products, including Fall Protection Equipment & Fixed line system (Vertical & Horizontal Line), Head Protection, Latest Foot Protection Products, Safety Spectacles, Hearing Protection, Wide range of Hand Protection, Coverall Body Protection, Respiratory Protection (Organic Vapor Mask), Newly launched field block, Emergency evacuation & self-rescue system, Confined Spaces entry and exit solution (Davit Arm) and many more. Expert safety personnel were present to explain the advanced safety solutions and address visitors’ queries in detail. The programme was coordinated by the Safety Engineering Department.
