NEW DELHI. India has created a new Guinness World Record after securing 2,50,946 valid pledges for responsible artificial intelligence use within 24 hours during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Announcing the achievement at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said the country earned the Guinness World Records title for the “Most pledges received for an AI responsibility campaign in 24 hours.” The record was officially verified by a Guinness World Records adjudicator during the summit held between February 16 and 17.

The nationwide AI Responsibility Pledge campaign was launched under the IndiaAI Mission in collaboration with Intel India to encourage citizens to commit to ethical, inclusive and responsible AI practices. Participants engaged with scenario-based questions on data privacy, transparency, accountability and tackling misinformation, and received digital badges along with AI learning resources upon completion. Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiring outreach to students and educational institutions, Vaishnaw said the overwhelming participation, far surpassing the initial target of 5,000 pledges, reflects growing awareness and positions India as a leader in promoting responsible AI for social good.
Mr. Arunkumar Pillai, CEO, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) underlined that AI is not merely a subject of instruction but an enabler of delivery, functioning as trainer, assessor and career guide. Through AI awareness programmes, the SOAR initiative and AI-enabled capabilities within the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), learners are now benefiting from personalised pathways, real-time labour market insights and outcome-based assessments.

Dr. Neena Pahuja outlined a structured three-tier framework – AI for All, AI for Many and AI for Few, to build capabilities from foundational literacy to advanced specialisation. She shared that SOAR registrations have crossed two lakh learners and highlighted the rollout of nano-credentials, stackable pathways and modular qualifications aligned with the National Credit Framework. She mentioned that our ITIs are also integrating short-duration AI modules to enhance productivity across traditional trades.

Mr. Rakesh Kaul stressed that the central question is not whether AI will transform work, but how institutions anticipate and manage that shift through responsible innovation and risk preparedness. Ms. Yolynd Lobo emphasized the need to expand domestic compute capacity, deepen partnerships and connect AI solutions across value chains, ensuring inclusion from agriculture to creative industries.

The session concluded with a shared commitment to collaborative action between government, academia and industry to ensure that India’s AI journey remains human-centric, inclusive and globally competitive.

NEW DELHI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, emphasizing that “intelligence, rationality, and decision-making” are the cornerstones for making technology useful to the masses. As the first global AI gathering hosted in the Global South, the summit brought together over 20 Heads of State, 60 Ministers, and 500 global AI leaders to discuss how artificial intelligence can be harnessed for the public good. The Prime Minister, accompanied by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, explored the India AI Impact Expo, which spans 70,000 square meters and features more than 600 startups. He noted that the event offers a glimpse into India’s extraordinary potential to shape AI solutions not just for the nation, but for the entire world.

Experts at the summit, including USISPF President Mukesh Aghi, highlighted India’s strategic lead in making AI affordable, scalable, and accessible. With one of the world’s largest structured databases and a robust digital public infrastructure, India is positioning itself as a model for the Global South by bridging the gap between high-tech innovation and grassroots impact. The summit, anchored in the “IndiaAI Mission,” features three flagship Global Impact Challenges—AI for ALL, AI by HER, and YUVAi—aimed at identifying inclusive, development-oriented solutions. Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to deliver the formal inaugural address of the summit on February 19, setting a long-term roadmap for responsible and human-centric AI governance.

The MoU was exchanged in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, with Ambassador Vinay Kwatra joining virtually from the United States. The School will be set up through a ₹100 crore endowment by Ms. Tandon, an alumna of IIMA’s PGP Class of 1975, and her husband Mr. Ranjan Tandon.

Speaking on the occasion, the Education Minister described the initiative as a significant step towards positioning India as a global AI leader, aligned with the upcoming India–AI Impact Summit 2026. Envisioned as a pioneering AI school within a management institute, the School will operate at the intersection of technology, management and public impact, focusing on responsible, application-led and translational AI. Anchored in IIMA’s legacy, it aims to advance business-focused AI research, support AI for social good, and strengthen India’s human capital and institutional leadership in the AI ecosystem.
