THE Budget session of Parliament begin with President Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the joint Session of parliament . Congress MPs stood up and shouted “shame” while the President’s spoke about the Citizenship Amendment Act.

President kovind said “I am happy that the wish of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi has been fulfilled through the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act by both the Houses of Parliament,”
He added that the government is clearly of the view that mutual discussions and debates further strengthen democracy. “At the same time, any kind of violence in the name of protest weakens the society and the country,”

Our Constitution expects from parliament and every MP present in this House to fulfill the hopes & aspirations of countrymen and make necessary laws for them, keeping the national interest paramount. This decade is key to India’s growth. It will fulfill the dreams of Gandhi and Nehru. We are committed to working in accordance with the Constitution.

“Kovind added that the last seven months of the Parliament have been very productive. President Kovind says: “India has made significant improvement in World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business ranking. The government runs on “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” and policies have been implemented without any religious bias.

Addressing media before the budget session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he hoped for detailed discussions on the economy and the empowerment of people ahead of the Budget Session of parliament beginning today.

“I want wide-ranging, qualitative discussion on economy in both houses. Our session should be focused on economic matters and how India can take advantage of the current global economic situation,” said PM Modi in his customary remarks at the start of a session.

Pointing out that this was the first session of 2020 and the decade, he said the effort should be to lay a “strong foundation for the decade”.

The Union Budget will be presented on Saturday. The first phase of the session will conclude on February 11, while the second part of the session will begin from March 2 and end on April 3.

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, presented the National Florence Nightingale Awards to nursing personnel in New Delhi today (December 5, 2019) on the occasion of International Nurses Day.

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that nurses play a vital role in delivering quality and cost effective healthcare, addressing multiple health challenges and responding to health needs of individuals, families and communities. The world is more and more in need of care and compassion, and nurses indeed are a symbol of seva, shushrusha, karuna. For patients and their families, nurses are the face of healthcare services. He was happy to note that the World Health Organisation has announced 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and Mid-wife.

The President said that we have an increasing number of elderly people who deserve and require proper geriatric care. In India, families take care of our elders in their old age. However, with changing lifestyles the demand for professional care-givers to take care of the elderly is on the rise. These care-givers, who need not be trained nurses, would certainly benefit from basic training in geriatric care. Our nursing training institutions can consider developing short training programs for such care-givers too.

The Government of India launched the Ayushman Bharat initiative to provide quality and comprehensive primary health care to people of all walks of life. More than 64 lakh beneficiaries have been admitted for treatment under this programme and more than 20 thousand hospitals have been empanelled. I hope that those States which are yet to adopt and implement the Ayushman Bharat programme shall also do so at the earliest. This is a monumental health care programme, in whose success the nursing community shall play a key role. Your service and kindness towards the patients represent the healing touch which carries a ray of hope so important for those who are ailing.

There is a considerable increase in the demand for specialized, competent and highly skilled nurses. There is also a rising demand of human resource for third and fourth level care, which requires quality training institutes.
