The 1,506-km corridor, developed by DFCCIL, runs from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal in Maharashtra to Dadri in Uttar Pradesh. With its commissioning, freight train capacity is expected to double, significantly improving the speed and reliability of goods transport. The corridor has been executed in phases and is designed to handle heavy-haul, long-distance freight traffic.

The Ministry of Railways has also completed the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor, spanning 1,337 km from Ludhiana to Sonnagar, further strengthening freight infrastructure. In addition, the government has proposed a new corridor between Dankuni and Surat in the Union Budget 2026–27, aimed at enhancing capacity and reducing congestion on existing railway networks.
