PVUNL’s Patratu STPP, which commenced commercial operation on November 5, 2025, achieved a 73.1% Plant Load Factor (PLF) during its first year, exceeding the national average. Equipped with Air Cooled Condenser (ACC), Ultra Super Critical (USC) and dry ash-handling technologies, the project marks a significant milestone in next-generation thermal power generation. With Unit-3 targeted for commissioning in FY 2026-27 and Phase-II of Patratu STPP progressing towards launch, PVUNL is poised for further growth and value creation.

The interactive sessions went beyond conventional lectures, incorporating real-life case studies, group discussions and experiential learning to address critical workplace issues, including distinguishing honest mistakes from misconduct, identifying and managing conflicts of interest, ensuring fairness in disciplinary processes, and understanding the role of ethics, transparency and accountability in organisational performance. The workshops highlighted that CDA Rules should not be viewed merely as a “punishment system”, but as an important instrument of organisational governance that helps prevent misconduct, promote fairness, protect institutional credibility and strengthen trust.

The discussions also emphasised that a conflict of interest does not necessarily constitute wrongdoing; rather, it is unmanaged conflict that poses a significant organisational risk. Proactive identification, disclosure and appropriate management of such situations can foster greater transparency and ethical decision-making. The initiative reinforced PVUNL’s commitment to strengthening a culture of integrity, fairness, accountability and trust across the organisation. Shri Ziaur Rehman, HOHR, and Shri Amar Dayal Singh, Head–EDC, were also present during the workshops.

This industry-academia collaboration effectively combines PVUNL’s operational expertise with IIM Ranchi’s research and management capabilities to transform innovative ideas into commercially viable solutions. Under the leadership and vision of Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava, Director of IIM Ranchi, the initiative highlights immense potential for joint research, executive education, and capacity building. Together, both institutions are working to turn industrial waste into wealth, transforming challenges into lasting economic opportunities while contributing meaningfully toward the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047.

The plant is equipped with the latest advanced technologies, including ultra-supercritical parameters for high efficiency, an air-cooled condenser ensuring minimal water consumption, and 100% dry ash handling technology for complete and productive ash utilization. Unit #1 has successfully undergone rigorous testing and stabilization, demonstrating its reliability, operational excellence, and efficiency.

The COD declaration was celebrated in the presence of key officials, including Shri A.K. Sehgal, CEO (PVUNL); Shri Anupam Mukherjee, CGM (Project); Shri Manish Kshetrapal, GM (O&M); Smt. Sangita Dash, GM (TS); Shri O.P. Solanki, GM (Maintenance); Shri Bishnu Dutt Dash, GM (Project); and other officials of PVUNL.

To commemorate the event, Shri Sehgal celebrated with the team, expressing appreciation to MD (JUSNL) and extending an invitation to the upcoming Unit-1 synchronization. PVUNL acknowledged the tireless efforts of its former CEOs, team members, and the support of ERLDC, ERPC, SLDC, and JUSNL, recognising their significant contributions to this achievement.

Bringing over 35 years of extensive experience with NTPC, Shri Sehgal has held key roles across operations, maintenance, turbine technology, and project management. His previous tenure as Business Unit Head at Talcher Kaniha saw significant milestones, establishing the station as a leading power plant within NTPC. His academic credentials include a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.Tech in Power Engineering from IIT Delhi, and management training from IIM Bangalore and Silicon Valley, USA.

With a strong blend of technical expertise and strategic vision, Shri Sehgal is well-positioned to guide PVUNL through its crucial phases of development. His leadership is anticipated to enhance project execution, bolster Jharkhand’s energy infrastructure, and ensure the timely completion of the ambitious 3×800 MW thermal power project. Known for his calm demeanour and sound decision-making, Shri Sehgal’s appointment marks a significant step toward strengthening the state’s power sector.
