Hot Strip Mill-2 of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant registers Best-Ever Monthly Coil Rolling in June 2026

The Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant has concluded the month of June 2026 with yet another significant achievement, further strengthening its record of operational excellence.

During the month, HSM-2 rolled 10,759 HR coils, surpassing its previous best of 10,713 HR coils achieved in October 2025. This marks the best-ever monthly performance of the mill in terms of number of coils rolled.

In another notable accomplishment, the Sheet Shearing Line also recorded its best June performance in HR plate production.

Congratulating the team and leadership of HSM-2 as well as all the supporting Deptts, Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge (RSP) has said the performance of the Mill is directly linked with the prosperity of the Plant. He has also exhorted all to make all out efforts to achieve 30 lakh tones of production this year.

This achievement has been made possible through the unstinted efforts of the entire HSM collective, with active support from Production Planning and Control (PPC), Roll Shop, Computer and Information Technology (C&IT), Instrumentation, Centralised Mechanical (Maintenance), Centralised Electrical (Maintenance), Design, Traffic, Energy Management, Materials Management, Water Management, Research and Control Lab (RCL), Contract Cell (Works), Steel Melting Shop, and the Refractory Engineering Department.

This achievement is the reflection of the dedication, coordination, and commitment of all concerned departments who worked in tandem with perfect synchronization.

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Returns to Profitability After Sustained Government Support

VIZAG. Public sector enterprise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has returned to the path of profitability with sustained support from the Central and Andhra Pradesh governments, officials informed Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday. Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of the plant, recorded a turnaround over the past year and a half and posted a profit of Rs 54 crore in January 2026. The Chief Minister reviewed the plant’s progress at a meeting held at the Secretariat, attended by Union Steel Ministry Secretary Sandeep Poundrik, RINL Chairman and Managing Director Manish Raj Gupta, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, and other senior officials.

During the meeting, the CMD said continuous support from both governments had helped the plant overcome earlier losses. Hot metal production has increased to 19,401 tonnes per day from 9,215 tonnes per day in the second quarter of 2024–25, with all three blast furnaces now fully operational. Capacity utilisation has reached a record 94 per cent, up from around 45 per cent last year. Officials said state support in taxes, electricity dues, and water supply, along with Rs 11,440 crore assistance from the Centre, played a crucial role in stabilising operations and improving performance, leading to an improved credit rating. The Chief Minister attributed the turnaround to collective efforts of workers and officials and directed departments to introduce new policies to further strengthen the steel plant.

The coveted Jawahar award was conferred on 5 executives of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) this year for outstanding work done by them in their area of work, contributing towards improvement in production, productivity, maintenance, services, quality, cost reduction and safety. Mr. Alok Verma, Director In-Charge, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) presented the award to the winners at the 77^th Republic Day Celebration held at Ispat Stadium.

The prestigious award has been conferred on Mr. Sajal Chanda, General Manager (Coke Ovens), Mr. Suryakanta Nayak, General Manager (SMS-2), Mr. Dilip Kumar Naik, General Manager {RS(M)}, Mr. Sarat Kumar Senapati, Assistant General Manager (HR) and Mr. Samarendra Pattnaik, General Manager (BOM, OGoM-CMLO).
