NEYVELI. State-owned energy major NLC India Limited is mapping out a massive financial strategy to raise over 1 trillion rupees through a balanced mix of domestic and international borrowings over the next four to five years. This capital raising initiative is designed to anchor the company’s grand 1.25 trillion rupee capital expenditure and expansion programme. Demonstrating its global borrowing capabilities, NLC India has already secured a 117 million dollar green loan from Germany’s KfW development bank and is currently processing additional green lines of credit from premier Japanese financial institutions to back its upcoming green energy portfolios.

In an exclusive interaction with Business Standard from the company’s headquarters in Neyveli, NLC India Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli detailed the company’s multifaceted future roadmap. The extensive discussion touched upon NLC India’s critical mineral strategy, overseas expansion targets, a comprehensive funding blueprint, mining capacity scaling, and the highly anticipated initial public offering of its green arm, NLC India Renewables Limited. These strategic moves underline NLC India’s transition from a regional lignite miner into a diversified pan-India energy conglomerate.

Highlighting immediate corporate priorities, Motupalli emphasized that the company’s foremost focus remains the commercialization of the 1,980 megawatt Ghatampur thermal power station located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The impending commissioning of this massive project marks a significant operational milestone for NLC India, effectively silencing past industry skepticism regarding the project’s execution and viability. With the financial and operational building blocks rapidly falling into place, the public sector giant is well-positioned to meet the nation’s dual goals of energy security and sustainable expansion.
