-The project is a joint initiative of the Elan Foundation, Maharashtra Government & Bollywood Megastar Salman Khan

07 September 2020: In February 2020, Elan Group announced adoption of flood affected Khidrapur village in Maharashtra. The construction of 70 houses for flood-affected victims has taken off at Khidrapur village, Kolhapur district in Maharashtra. The project is a joint initiative of Bollywood megastar Salman Khan, the Government of Maharashtra and Elan Foundation- a philanthropic arm of Gurugram based commercial realty developer Elan Group. The project is being funded by the government of Maharashtra to the tune of INR 95,000 per house whereas the rest of the expenses would be borne by Salman Khan and Elan Foundation.

Hon’ble Maharashtra Minister Shri Rajendra Patil Yadravkar tweeted that the work on 70 affected houses has finally begun. He applauded the initiative and assured full government support. He also posted a series of pictures which showed the minister doing a ‘bhoomipujan’ ceremony. The initiative was also commended by Salman Khan in an Instagram post.

At least 70 houses spanning across 250 square feet each would be given to victims whose houses were ravaged by the flood last year. Situated in the Kolhapur district, Khidrapur is famous for the Kopeshwar Temple that is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The sarpanch of the village, Haider Khan Mokashi stated that the villagers are extremely happy with this development. They said that they are proud of Elan Foundation and Salman Khan for helping this tiny hamlet situated in a corner of the state.

“Shelter is the basic necessity and we empathize with those who lost their lives and homes due to floods. Elan Foundation is committed to augmenting the rehabilitation efforts in an endeavour to give a fresh start to flood-affected victims with a renewed vigour. The beginning of the construction work is a step forward in realizing our vision to aid the marginalized section of the society,” said Ravish Kapoor, MD, Elan Group.

The 2019 floods affected 223 villages in Kolhapur and displaced around 28,897 people in the district.

Elan Foundation is a philanthropic arm of Elan Group, Gurugram based commercial realty developer, developing revolutionary retail innovations that are powering the next upheaval in Indian realty industry. It has also aided the humanitarian relief efforts during the COVID-19 lockdown by distributing ration, masks and sanitizers free of cost to construction workers along with distribution of relief material to various parts of Bihar.

MCGM had been conducting approx. 4000 tests everyday on an average in May and June 2020. This was ramped up to 6500 tests (Zero rapid tests included) on an average, everyday in the month of July 2020 by abolishing prescriptions for the test in respect of any citizen of Mumbai and allowing 100% home collection of swabs through any of the 23 labs in Mumbai. In the month of August 2020, testing per day was 7619 (Zero rapid tests included). It was decided in the last week of August 2020 to further revamp of testing. In the month of September 2020, accordingly, tests have been around 9000 to 10000 everday since 1st September and today, it touched 11861 (Zero Rapid tests included).

This is the primary reason for increase in number of positive cases in Mumbai. Considering the fact that approx. 4800 beds are lying vacant under DCH / DCHC facilities under MCGM and another set of 6200 covid beds in Jumbo field hospitals lying fully ready which can be added on to the Dashboard at a short notice and the fact that approx. 60 to 70% positive cases are asymptomatic in nature requiring home quarantine only, the availability of beds for symptomatic positive cases in Mumbai will not be an issue at all, even if the number of positive cases on an average goes beyond 2000 everyday.

It is also important to submit here that the MCGM is adding 250 additional ICU beds on the Dashboard in next 3 days to ensure that atleast 350+ ICU beds remain vacant everyday, as an assurance to the citizens of Mumbai. The strategy of MCGM to substantially ramp up the tests from an average testing of 7619 everyday in the month of August to 10000-14000 tests everyday in the month of September, resulting in increase of average number of positive cases from 1000-1300 to 1700-2000 everday by effectively utilising large number of vacant covid beds available in the city of Mumbai will help to accelerate arrest of the spread of virus in Mumbai. Therefore, it is humbly submitted that there should not be any panic created by sudden increase of positive number of cases in Mumbai.

Amidst the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and migrants workforce leaving Delhi NCR, Elan Group took a step forward to ensure the safety and security of its construction workers. The developer under its philanthropic arm Elan Foundation distributed one-month of ration to over 2000 construction labourers working at their sites. Social distancing was duly followed in distribution with white circles being earmarked at an adequate distance for each worker. Masks and sanitizers were also distributed to all the construction workers and the developer encouraged them to wear the mask and use sanitizers for safety.

“The Covid-19 pandemic is a testing time for all especially for the underprivileged section of society. The ration distribution is our small step to aid these construction workers. We are committed to ensuring the overall well-being of our workers. I urge all corporates to do their bit for the marginalized section of the society,” said Mr. Rakesh Kapoor, Chairman, Elan Group.

As a precautionary measure, masks and sanitizers were earlier distributed by Elan Group not only to its own staff and construction workers but to the underprivileged as well.

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has affected over 1200 people in India forcing the government to declare a nationwide lockdown for 21 days starting from 24th March 2020. To tide over the economic crisis, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman bailed out an economic package worth Rs 1,70,000 crore to cover the marginalized section of the society. The package includes a mix of food security and direct cash transfer benefits, which will shield daily wagers and small businesses during the lockdown in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Reserve Bank of India has also announced a spate of measures to keep the Indian economy afloat amidst the lockdown.
