NEW DELHI. Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced a significant step forward in India’s green energy journey by launching a ₹100 crore call for proposals to develop biomass-based green hydrogen pilot projects. Addressing the 3rd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH 2025) at Bharat Mandapam, Joshi emphasized that the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), launched in 2023 with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore, is positioning India as a global leader in clean energy. The new initiative aims to encourage innovative technologies for producing green hydrogen from biomass and waste materials, further diversifying India’s renewable energy sources and accelerating its hydrogen economy.

The Minister unveiled the official logo of the NGHM, which was selected from over 2,500 entries nationwide, symbolizing collective participation and India’s green aspirations. He highlighted that India’s focus on green hydrogen is driven by its potential to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors and establish a long-term energy independence. Under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, India has made rapid progress, with incentives awarded for domestic electrolyser manufacturing, green hydrogen production, and competitive pricing, including the world’s lowest green ammonia price at ₹49.75 per kg. The government has also invested in pilot projects for green steel, hydrogen-fuelled vehicles, refuelling stations, and hydrogen bunkering facilities, demonstrating its comprehensive approach to building a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem.

Addressing broader clean energy ambitions, Joshi underscored that India is working to power its entire green hydrogen production with renewable energy and has established robust standards and certifications to support industry growth. He stressed that India’s low-cost green hydrogen production capacity gives it a competitive edge in global markets, with the potential to export to regions like Europe, Japan, and South Korea. The conference served as a platform for international collaboration, uniting scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders to build a resilient and inclusive green hydrogen economy. Experts like Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay K. Sood and MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi highlighted India’s progress in renewable capacity and its strategic positioning as a future green energy leader on the global stage.

Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the first Training Programme on Solar Cell and Module Manufacturing at the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), Gurugram, and unveiled the updated Solar PV Potential Assessment of India during Seva Parv, marking a major milestone in India’s clean energy mission. Addressing the event, Joshi emphasized India’s rapid progress, highlighting that the country has already surpassed 250 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity, achieving the 50% non-fossil share target five years ahead of schedule, and is on track to reach 500 GW by 2030. He underscored India’s strong domestic manufacturing capacity, including over 100 GW of solar PV modules and more than 20 GW of wind turbine capacity, reflecting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The updated Solar PV Potential Assessment employs high-resolution geospatial analysis, satellite data, and land-use models, revealing a feasible potential of approximately 3,343 GWp using just 6.69% of wastelands, and emphasizing the diverse potential across multiple states beyond Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The newly launched training program aims to bolster technical expertise and develop a skilled workforce for India’s expanding solar manufacturing sector, focusing on advanced processes, quality control, and best practices to foster a self-reliant and competitive ecosystem. During the event, Joshi also interacted with 28 women trainees from 15 countries participating in an international solar energy training program, emphasizing the role of women’s empowerment in renewable energy development. He highlighted that these initiatives, launched during Seva Parv and Navratri, embody the spirit of collective service and nation-building, aligning with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat. Joshi reaffirmed that these efforts provide a scientific roadmap, skilled manpower, and manufacturing capacity essential for positioning India at the forefront of the global clean energy transition, ensuring energy security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
