Government Approves 25 Lakh Additional LPG Connections Under PMUY for FY 2025–26

The Government of India has approved 25 lakh additional LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for FY 2025–26 to clear pending applications and move toward saturation of LPG access across the country. PMUY, launched in May 2016, has already provided 10.33 crore deposit-free LPG connections as of 1 November 2025. To further ease access, eligibility has been simplified to include any adult woman from a poor household submitting a Deprivation Declaration.

To ensure affordability and sustained LPG usage, the government is providing a targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder (proportionately for 5 kg cylinders) for up to nine refills per year in FY 2025–26. This enhanced subsidy builds on earlier support of ₹200 per cylinder introduced in 2022, later increased to ₹300. LPG usage and consumption trends are monitored through PPAC/OMCs reports and MIS systems.

Independent studies have shown that PMUY has delivered significant socio-economic and health benefits. It has reduced indoor air pollution by enabling a shift away from biomass-based cooking, improved women’s health and productivity by reducing drudgery, contributed to environmental conservation by lowering dependence on firewood, and supported better nutrition through easier and cleaner cooking. This information was provided by Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Suresh Gopi, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

Govt Decides To Provide 25 Lakh Additional LPG Connections Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

The Government has decided to provide 25 lakh additional LPG connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana during the current Financial Year. Extending greetings to women beneficiaries on the first day of Navratri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this step of the government will not only bring them new joy on this sacred festival, but will also strengthen the resolve for women’s empowerment.

Talking to the media, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri informed that the government will spend more than two thousand rupees on each connection of the 25 lakh new LPG connections. He said that with this expansion, the number of Ujjwala family members will rise to 10.58 crore. Mr Puri said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ensured that clean cooking fuel would be easily available to all women.

More than 10 cr free LPG connections distributed under Ujjwala Yojana, says Union Minister Hardeep Puri

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri has said more than 10 crore 33 lakh free LPG connections have been distributed across the country under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. He said, country is moving towards energy security goals with the focus on green, sustainable and innovative sources of energy. The Minister said this while reviewing a meeting of the officials of the Petroleum Ministry and Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies.

During the meeting, the Minister also reviewed the process of setting up solar power infrastructure at the vast network of more than 88 thousand retail outlets across the country. Capacity ranging from less than 1 kilowatt to 3 kilowatt and above have already been set up at nearly 79 thousand such outlets.
