In a major boost to India’s clean energy infrastructure, NTPC’s 520 MW Tapovan Vishnugad Hydroelectric Project has achieved a landmark construction milestone with the successful breakthrough of its Head Race Tunnel (HRT). By precisely connecting the tunnels under construction across Phase-02 and Phase-03, engineering teams excavated 1,748 meters and 981 meters respectively, bringing the total completed excavation to 9.7 kilometers of the 12.1-kilometer-long tunnel.

This crucial breakthrough represents roughly 80 percent completion of the total excavation work. Braving the notoriously challenging geological conditions, dense hard rock formations, and complex underground environments inherent to the Himalayan region, NTPC’s engineers and workforce demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, safety standards, and determination to bring the project one step closer to clean power generation.

The meeting was attended by senior representatives of the Ministry of Power and leading power sector CPSEs, including NTPC Limited, NHPC Limited, SJVN Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid). During the meeting, the participants reviewed and discussed the proposed performance targets and operational benchmarks for the financial year, aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability and overall performance of the public sector enterprises.

RECPDCL Hands Over Jalna Power Transmission Limited, a SPV of Intra State Transmission Project of Maharashtra, to M/s Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited

REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power, handed over Jalna Power Transmission Limited, the project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), to the successful bidder, M/s Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited, on 12 June 2026.

M/s Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited emerged as the successful bidder through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process conducted by RECPDCL, the Bid Process Coordinator, for development of Maharashtra’s intra-state transmission project on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.

The SPV was handed over by Shri Ratnesh Kumar, General Manager (Engg.), RECPDCL, to Ms. Vineeta Shriwani, Company Secretary, and Shri Amit Naik, Chief Engineer (TBCB), Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited, in the presence of senior officials from Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited, Maharashtra STU, and RECPDCL.

The project broadly envisages establishment of a 400/132 kV substation at Jalna and about 135 km of 132 kV double-circuit transmission lines from Jalna (New) to Jalna MIDC, Jalna (New) to Partur, and Jalna to Ghansawangi & Utwad, along with associated works. The project is scheduled for implementation over 24 months at an estimated cost of Rs. 912 crore.
