NEW DELHI. Prime Minister’s flagship governance platform PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) has achieved a major milestone with the successful conduct of its 50th meeting, underscoring a decade of impact since its launch in 2015. Designed to enable real-time monitoring and swift resolution of critical infrastructure projects and public grievances through direct Prime Ministerial review, PRAGATI exemplifies cooperative federalism by bringing together the Centre, States and Union Ministries on a single digital platform, fostering faster decision-making and strong accountability.

One notable example of PRAGATI’s effectiveness is the Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project (Stage-I) in Vijayapura district, Karnataka, implemented by NTPC Limited. One of the largest power stations in South India, the coal-based project comprises three units of 800 MW each and plays a vital role in meeting the growing power needs of southern States and Union Territories, supporting industrial growth, urbanisation and infrastructure development.

Recognising its strategic importance, the project was reviewed under PRAGATI on 24 June 2015, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Key directions were issued to address bottlenecks, including faster land handover, railway line doubling for material transport, and right of use for water pipelines. Regular PRAGATI reviews ensured coordinated action, timely strengthening of rail connectivity and uninterrupted logistics support, leading to the project’s completion on 3 December 2018. The successful execution of Kudgi highlights PRAGATI’s role as a powerful mechanism for translating large infrastructure investments into timely on-ground outcomes.
