99 people have tested positive for Covid-19 at Dharwad’s SDM College of Medical Sciences on Friday, according to reports. This takes the total number of cases in the college to 281. Out of the 281 cases, only 6 patients are symptomatic, according to District Collector Nitish Patil.

Patil said all cases were “breakthrough infections”, meaning the patients had received both doses of a vaccine. At the same time, 33 students below the age of 18 and a staffer have tested positive at a private boarding school in Dommasandra in Whitefield.

Karnataka logged 402 fresh Covid-19 cases and six deaths on Friday, taking the total number of infections to 29,94,963 and the toll to 38,193. Bengaluru Urban continued to top the list of cases (224), as the city saw 129 discharges and one death. Total number of active cases in the state is now 6,611.

result of 66 fully vaccinated students and staff of the college had turned out to be positive following testing of over 300 students. More people from the college are being tested today.

The samples of the infected people will be sent for genome sequencing. “The students were fully vaccinated… We will be sending a few samples for genome sequencing to check if there’s a new variant,” state health commissioner D Randeep said.

The health commissioner said a freshers’ party at the college on November 17 is responsible for the outbreak.

Chairman of Manipal Hospital and member of Covid task force team in Karnataka Dr Sudarshan Ballal said the Covid cluster is a cause of concern.

“There was a large cluster that has turned to be positive and all of them were at an event. This means the variant of this virus is infectious. Second concern, all the students were fully vaccinated which means there is a immune escape phenomena,” he said.

However, he said, the disease is not severe. “But happening at this juncture is certainly concerning to us… We should go back to stringent Covid behavior,” he added.

Releasing a statement, the office of the Vice President said that Naidu underwent a Covid-19 test today morning. As per reports, Naidu is asymptomatic and in home quarantine.

Releasing the findings of the second nationwide sero-survey on Tuesday, ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said 6.6 per cent of the 29,082 people (aged 10 years and above) surveyed from August 17 to September 22 showed evidence of past exposure to Covid-19.

Nurture Positivity and use your Mind Wisely

The Corona virus Pandemic that has created a devastating impact on the economies of the nations around the world and continues to cause enormous anxieties and mental stresses need to be confronted with a mind tuned to positivity and hope during these testing times of great uncertainty said Dr Sangita Reddy, President FICCI and Joint Managing Director Apollo Group of Hospitals while delivering Amity Eminent Webinar Address organized by Amity University Gurugram today. The webinar was attended by over 2000 students, Vice Chancellors, Senior Semitists, Deans, HoIs and members of faculty from 10 Amity Universities in India and many more from abroad.

The Economic and social crisis caused by Covid-19 is undoubtedly the basis for the fear and enormous anxiety that covers everyone irrespective of economic prosperity or social order. It requires leadership that undertakes positivity and willingness to find solutions that can mitigate the ill-effects of the Covid Pandemic. At the same time it is absolutely necessary to create a positive health environment around. Dr Reddy was very happy to add that the industries and corporates in India have responded the Covid crisis with a positive mind and have contributed significantly in managing the crisis by their innovative products and services to help the health care sector in India and also abroad.

Addressing to over 1000 inspired youth connected to the webinar, Dr Sangita Reddy said “Your Mind is the most powerful force to empower you. It can take you to the heights of ecstasy or can enslave you and plunge you into the depth of misery if not used wisely. The most important thing you the young students are doing today is learning how to use this power of your mind wisely by filling it with the right knowledge and choosing the right path and right skills and capabilities”. Let you overcome your fear and work together to create a better world than the one left behind before the Covid Pandemic, said Dr Reddy.

Today the humanity is grappling like never seen before. Generational medical crisis which has now become an economic crisis and also a social crisis. There are geo-political shifts and global friction. There is a manifestation of a burdening crisis all over the world. But then as it is said that the brightness of stars is in the darkness of night. As such it is also the time of great hope and to have great resilience to combat the impending threats of expansionist Covid, said Dr Reddy a crusader of affordable health care for all.

Sharing her experience of implementing a number of innovative initiatives in Apollo group of Hospitals, Dr Reddy said that the continuous quest to push the benchmarks of excellence and caring service to humanity have made Apollo a class apart in the Hospitals in Asia. The integration of latest advances in IT in health care services and the synergy between the advances in biomedical engineering and health care services have made India’s health care truly world class.

Lauding the efforts of Government of India in combating the Covid crisis, Dr Reddy said that the timely interventions of the Government have resulted into containing death rate below 3 percent and the recovery rate of over 72 percent. But we need still to win the battle as over 69000 cases are being added daily.

Invoking a sense of courage and commitment to fight the ongoing pandemic, Dr Sangita Reddy cited the courage and conviction with which the nursing professionals work in the isolation wards, giving their very best services often sacrificing their comfort and even risking their life. The youth of our country should emulate this exemplary courage and prepare themselves to serve the vast humanity with a caring concern for the last man in the society so that no one is left behind. Recalling the famous quote of Mahatma Gandhi that the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. This is the time to show our utmost care and concern for the suffering humanity and also to care for yourself at the same time.

Dr Reddy also highlighted the importance of Academic and Research collaboration between the super-specialty hospitals and leading universities in the areas of Radiology, Oncology, Robotic Surgery, Biomedical Engineering and Bigdata Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, smart diagnostics and targeted drug delivery.

Home Minister Amit Shah has tested positive for coronavirus and he has been admitted to Medanta hospital.

In a tweet, the minister said his health was “fine” but he was being hospitalised “on the advice of doctors”. He also requested that all those “who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get your inquiry done”.

Sources said extensive contact tracing will be carried out and anyone who came in contact with the minister will have to self-isolate.

Meanwhile Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday and has been admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru.

“I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self quarantine,” Yediyurappa announced on Twitter. His daughter, B Y Padmavati, has also tested positive for the disease, and has been admitted to Manipal Hospital.

Mr Shah, 55, had taken part in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, which was attended by all top ministers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, defence minister Rajnath Singh, and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman. All safety norms, including social distancing, were followed at the crucial meet, where the National Education Policy was approved.

On Sunday afternoon, Mr Shah tweeted: “On getting the initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got the test done and the report came back positive. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get your inquiry done,” Mr Shah’s tweet in Hindi roughly said.

The Union government on Wednesday released a list of hotspot zones in the country, including 170 districts classified as red zones.

Of this, 123 districts have been classified as ones that have a large outbreak, while 47 districts have COVID-19 clusters. A total of 207 districts have been classified as non hot-spots.

In the south there have been 11 districts in Andhra Pradesh, three in Karnataka, six in Kerala, 22 in Tamil Nadu and eight in Telangana identified as ‘red’ zones with large outbreaks.

Hotspots in the south with large outbreaks

Andhra Pradesh: Kurnool, Guntur, Spsr Nellore, Prakasam, Krishna, YSR, West Godavari, Chittoor, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Anantapur

Karnataka: Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru, Belagavi

Kerala: Kasaragod, Kannur, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta

Tamil Nadu: Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Erode, Vellore, Dindugal, Villupuram, Tiruppur, Theni, Nammakal, Chengalpattu, Madurai, Tuticorin, Karur, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari, Cuddalore, Thiruvallur, Thiruvarur, Salem, Nagapattinam

Telangana: Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Warangal Urban, Ranga Reddy, Jogulamba Gadwal, Medchal Malkajgiri, Karimnagar, Nirmal

Hotspots in the south identified as clusters

Karnataka: Dakshina Kannada, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Bagalkote, Dharwad

Kerala: Wayanad

Telangana: Nalgonda

How districts have been classified

Hotspots were earlier defined by the Union Health ministry to be those districts which have either reported large numbers of people falling sick with COVID-19 or where there has been a steady increase in the number of individuals infected with the disease.

As per the notice signed by Preeti Sudan, Health Secretary of India, districts are now classified as either hotspots or ‘red’ zones, non-hotspot districts, and non-infected or ‘green’ zones.

Hotspots districts are further divided into districts with large outbreaks and those with clusters.
Non-hotspot districts which have reported cases are referred to as clusters.

If a red zone hasn’t reported a new positive case in 14 days it will be shifted to hotspot ‘orange’ zone. If no further cases are reported for another 14 days, the district is then declared a ‘green’ zone

A 19-year-old pizza delivery agent has tested positive for coronavirus in south Delhi, causing a huge scare for over 70 families. The teen had delivered pizzas till April 12 and in the last 15 days he had delivered to 72 families in south Delhi areas like Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar and Savitri Nagar. He has been admitted to RML hospital.

These families have been home quarantined and are being monitored.

Twenty more delivery boys who came in contact with the teen have been quarantined at a facility in Chhattarpur.

The delivery boy doesn’t have any travel history, say officials, who suspect he may have got the infection while delivering pizza to an infected family.

In a statement, food delivery giant Zomato said it had been made aware today that a restaurant employee who had tested positive for the virus, “had delivered food in the past to a few customers” in Malviya Nagar.

“Some of these orders were placed on Zomato. We are not sure whether the rider was affected at the time of delivery,” said he statement

“All these customers have already been contacted by government authorities,” Zomato said, adding that the restaurant where the rider worked had been shut down.

“COVID-19 could happen to anyone – and it is near impossible for all of us to completely isolate ourselves, especially when we need outside support for essentials such as food…We believe that none of our riders should and would knowingly keep working if they knew they were infected with COVID-19,” it said.

Delhi has 1,578 COVID-19 cases, including over 30 deaths.

Singer Kanika Kapoor, who tested positive for Coronavirus for the fourth consecutive time recently, “hopes” that her next COVID-19 test result will be “negative.” Kanika is undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) in Lucknow. The singer, on Monday, shared an update about her health from the hospital and informed her fans that she is “fine” and is not admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). “Going off to bed. Sending you all loving vibes.

Stay safe you guys. Thank you for your concern but I am not in the ICU. I am fine. I hope my next test is negative,” wrote Kanika. In her post, she also stated that she is “waiting” to go home to her kids and family: “Waiting to go home to my kids and family, miss them!”

Kanika shared the health update along with an inspirational quote, which read: “Life teaches us to make good use of time, while time teaches us the value of life.”

Kanika Kapoor tested positive for COVID-19 for the first time on March 20 after she flew to Mumbai from London on March 9 and travelled to Lucknow two days later. She revealed her Coronavirus diagnosis in an Instagram post but later deleted it after facing severe backlash on social media for not going in isolation following her trip and instead, attending a dinner party in Lucknow. Last week, news agency IANS reported that the singer tested positive for the third time and that her treatment will continue until at least two tests show her COVID-19 negative.
