The Vindhyachal–Varanasi project involves establishing a new 765 kV sub-station at Prayagraj and associated transmission lines across Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It will help relieve the loading of the 765 kV Vindhyachal–Varanasi line under contingency conditions and facilitate power evacuation from Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) in Uttar Pradesh. The SR–WR project, spanning Karnataka and Maharashtra, will strengthen connectivity between the Southern and Western regions, enabling greater integration of renewable energy and enhancing inter-regional power transfer capacity.

These acquisitions mark another step by POWERGRID toward building a robust, future-ready power transmission network. By expanding inter-regional links and integrating renewable generation sources, POWERGRID continues to support India’s clean energy transition and the national goal of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity by 2030.
