										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Centre has decided to cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on Diesel by Rs 6 per litre. This will effectively reduce the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per litre and of diesel by Rs 7 per litre.</p>
<p>Finance Minister <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/tags/nirmala-sitharaman.html" rel="dofollow">Nirmala Sitharaman</a>, while making the announcement on her Twitter handle on May 21, requested state governments to follow the lead, especially those who didn&#8217;t announce a reduction last time (Novemeber 2021).</p>

<p>, petrol and diesel prices remained stable for about 40 days.  Since the end of a four-and-a-half-month-long halt in rate revision on March 22, rates of petrol and diesel increased by Rs 10 a litre each through 14 revisions. Fuel prices were last hiked on April 6 by 80 paise a litre each.</p>

<p>The Finance Minister also apprised that the government will give a subsidy of Rs 200 per gas cylinder (upto 12 cylinders) to over 9 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.</p>
<p>Revenue implication for the excise duty cut will be around Rs 1 lakh crore per year, while the subsidy on LPG cylinders of the Ujjwala Yojana will cost the exchequer Rs 6,100 crore per year, the minister added.</p>
<p>Other decisions announced by the FM included the calibration of customs duty on raw materials &amp; intermediaries for iron &amp; steel to reduce their price .</p>
<p>Soon after her announcement on fuel prices, other states including Rajasthan and Kerala slashed Value-added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot announced a Rs 2.48 per litre reduction in VAT on petrol and Rs 1.16 per litre reduction in VAT on diesel.</p>

<p id="1" class="story_para_1">The petrol and diesel prices were increased by 25 paise per litre, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers. As a result, the hike took the petrol price in Delhi stood at ₹89.54 per litre. Subsequently, the diesel rate climbed to ₹79.95 a litre in the city.</p>

<p id="3" class="story_para_3">The relentless hike in fuel prices has been criticised by the Opposition, including the Congress party, that has demanded an immediate cut in taxes to ease the burden on the common man.</p>
<p id="4" class="story_para_4">The price of liquefied petroleum gas domestic cylinder has also increased by ₹50 per unit this week in Delhi. The new price of ₹769 per 14.2 kilograms LPG cylinder was applicable in the national capital from Monday.</p>

In New Delhi, the price of petrol has increased to Rs 89.29 per litre from Rs 88.99 whereas diesel price in the cityincreased from Rs 79.35 per litre to Rs 79.70 for one litre. In Mumbai, the price of petrol has now become Rs 95.75 for one litre. There has been an increase of 29 paise in the price of petrol on February 16 in Mumbai. Diesel on the other hand costs Rs 86.72 per litre in Mumbai. The cost of the same fuel was Rs 86.34/litre on Monday, February 15.</p>
<p id="1" class="story_para_1">The rate of petrol and diesel per litre on Tuesday in Patna has become Rs 91.67 and Rs 84.92 respectively. Although the fuel price has increased in most cities but in Jaipur, the price has decreased by 32 paise and stands at Rs 95.75 per litre. Still, the fuel price in Jaipur is as high as Mumbai on Tuesday.</p>
