The MoU was signed by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director (Northern Region-II), POWERGRID, and Prof Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director (ad-interim), PEC, in the presence of UT Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, Ravinder Kumar Tyagi, CMD , POWERGRID, and Prerna Puri, Secretary Education, UT. Speaking at the event, Rajeev Verma lauded the initiative as a vital step in nation-building through academia-industry collaboration and highlighted its alignment with India’s vision of achieving energy security and a net-zero emission future under Viksit Bharat. The upcoming centre, being established at a cost of ₹17.19 crore under POWERGRID’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), will offer cutting-edge infrastructure and hands-on training in domains such as numerical relays, inverters, cybersecurity, and e-mobility, benefiting undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students.

Jasbir Singh, ED (CSR),  HODs & senior faculty members of PEC and officials from Technical Education, Chandigarh were also present during the signing ceremony. The centre being established at an estimated cost of ₹17 Crores envisages to open new avenues for student learning.

Haryana cadre IAS officer, Shri  Nitin Kumar Yadav (2000) has been assigned  additional charge as CMD) of three major public sector enterprises – MMTC Ltd, PEC Ltd, and STC Ltd. Mr. Yadav currently serves as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

This additional assignment is effective immediately and will be in place for a period of one year. The move is seen as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership and streamline the functioning of its key trading corporations to enhance operational efficiency and strategic focus.
