NEW DELHI. The Delhi government is planning to introduce two hydrogen fuel cell buses in the national capital as part of its efforts to promote clean energy and sustainable public transportation. Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said the initiative will be undertaken in coordination with NTPC, marking a significant step towards adopting advanced zero-emission technologies. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is currently working on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state-owned power company, which will provide the buses under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

Under the proposed arrangement, DTC will bear the operational expenditure at the approved Gross Cost Contract (GCC) rate of Rs 45 per kilometre, while NTPC will support costs beyond this framework through its CSR mechanism. Singh said hydrogen fuel technology represents an important milestone in Delhi’s transition to future-ready and environmentally responsible mobility solutions. He added that collaboration with organisations such as NTPC will help strengthen the city’s public transport network, contribute to cleaner air, and support the broader goal of building a greener and more sustainable future.
