How to Learn new Skills during times of Online Education

Learning new skills has always been one thing that Students and Professionals have both been keen on to drive and grow their careers. During changing and turbulent times, learning new and futuristic skills always help in evolving ourselves to the needs of the World.

Online Education has in general made it easy to learn new skills. With presence of many platforms and services, it has never been easier to learn something new that can help. Not just for Professional Skills, but even for recreational activities it is an amazing time to learn new hobbies.

Speaking about Professional Skills, how should one learn them. It is very important to follow the following steps when learning a new skill.

Evaluating Ourselves- Find your Education and Career Goal, and evaluate your current skills to find skills that you may want to learn. If you are not sure of your Goal yet, do not worry. Evaluate your current skills and see which skillsU you may want to learn.
Skills can be of two main types- Technical (Microsoft office, SPSS for Statistics, etc.), or, Interpersonal Skills (Communication, Team work,etc.). You can learn both.
Identify right places to learn the Skills– Take guidance on where you can learn skills from Teachers, Experienced people in Family, Industry Experts (you can int with them in conferences, on Social Media, etc.),Mentors, etc.
Do not over commit- Do not learn too many skills at once. Start with one or few and after completing them, go to others. Always remember, the avenues to learn are many; we have to still go step by step so we do not over burden ourselves.

Learning new skills is of great importance. Do not stress yourself while learning though. It takes time to be great in your field. Enjoy the process and stay happy.

Advisory on advertisements on Online Gaming

Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has today issued advisory on Online Gaming, Fantasy Sports etc. The Ministry has advised broadcasters to adhere to the Guidelines issues by Advertising Standards Council of India. The Ministry has also advised that the advertisements should not promote any activity prohibited by statute or law.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has told both print and audio/visual medium to run a disclaimer while advertising online gaming and fantasy sports platforms, according to the advisory .

This comes after several gaming platforms advertised during the Indian Premier League recently and also during the telecast of the ongoing limited overs international series between India and Australia.

The advisory says that no gaming advertisement should depict any person below the age of 18 and that there should be a disclaimer saying that playing the game involves an element of financial risk and can be addictive.

“No gaming advertisement may depict any person under the age of 18 years, or who appears to be under the age of 18, engaged in playing a game of ONLINE GAMING FOR REAL MONEY WINNINGS, or suggest that such persons can play these games,” said guidelines issued by I&B ministry’s Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) on Friday.

The ASCI guidelines also said: “Every such gaming advertisement must carry the following disclaimer: ‘This game involves an element of financial risk and may be addictive. Please play responsibly and at your own risk’.”

While the ASCI guidelines say that such an ad should occupy at least 20% of the advertisement space in print, it should be at normal speaking pace and in the same language as the advertisement in audio-visual media.

The guidelines also say that the advertisements should not present ‘online gaming for real money winnings’ as an income opportunity or an alternative employment option.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry also said that it has concerns over such advertisements and that they could be misleading people and audience.

How to prepare ourselves for Online Education: As Students and as Institutions/ Teachers

Online Education, as discussed in previous article and as we hear in media, is here to stay in some form or the other. It is therefore important for us as students and/or Teachers to prepare ourselves for this new way of teaching.

The most important thing to do is firstly to be ready in our mind to adapt to it. It’s a change in way of learning and only thing that will make it a happier experience will be our strong mindset and willingness to manage online education.

Next comes understanding of technology. Expert knowledge in technology is not required; basic knowledge will do. Understanding how internet works and how video conferencing tools work are basic things to adapt to. It may seem easy for lot of people but for many it maybe a big change. Nevertheless, do not be worried because of it. With time and practice we all can be accustomed to them.

Furthermore, as a student there could be concerns about how to manage notes while listening to a teacher. One can use a physical notebook as we do in classrooms and take notes. Sometimes classes are recorded too which can help. Also, sometime mobiles and computers can help too with typing notes in softwares such as Notes in phones or Microsoft Word in Computer. Another thing that can affect students is how to ask doubts when the question arises in mind. In classes we can do straightaway, but in online classes it may not be possible always, especially if they are pre-recorded classes or if asking questions during classes is not feasible.

If they are live classes then a student can wait till end of the class or follow instructions of teachers on how to ask questions. Otherwise, they can make note of them and ask them at end of class or personally. As Teachers, we must inform the students how they can ask questions or clear their doubts in a way that doesn’t affect flow of class, as well as, helps address concerns of students.

As Teachers, we must also help students know how the Institutions or Teachers themselves are there to assist students and help them in adapting to this new way of learning, especially notes and assignments. Lot of colleges and schools may use online servers or platforms to keep notes, etc. It is important to guide students on how to understand and work on the servers and find necessary information.

One more thing that us Teachers and Institutions need to take care of is what happens if our or the student’s internet does not work on a day. Can we use alternate methods such as emails or phones for teaching? We must find flexible methods.

In return, we as students must also be respectful and understanding towards our teachers for who adapting to this technological change may be harder. We must also give them time too to adjust and adapt.

One thing that is important for Students is to use only the recommended softwares or methods to take classes only. This will help keep us safe and secure while taking lessons. Further, if someone tries to bully online, do contact teachers or family.

One more thing that may come as a challenge is affect of Online Education on emotional health. Lot of students, as well as, Teachers have complained about it being lonely and affecting their emotional health. I am not an expert on emotional health but we can try some ways to keep ourselves connected with other students or Teachers through online meetings or interactions, even if it’s once in a week. We must remember due to current Covid-19 pandemic it may seem more lonely as we are all at home.

But once we are out of it, we can meet our friends and teachers socially and connect online for education, depending how the Institutions use Online Education then. But for now, let’s try to adapt to it and find ways to keep ourselves happy through online meetings/ hangouts or phone calls just to talk and meet friends/ Teachers. We are social animals and it’s important for us to be social. Let’s find ways to keep ourselves social in these lockdown times.

Also, if it affects you in any form, then do speak to your parents, teachers, family to take help and guidance. It is not something to be ashamed of and taking care of ourselves is a very strong thing.

Do note, we are together in this and together we all can make it a happy process for us all. It takes times to adapt to new things but with compassion and understanding towards each other we all can make use of it.

Online gaming like poker, rummy is popular nowadays. Today’s youth are addicted to this online gaming. Many youths are spoiling their life on online games so activists are planning to file a PIL in Bombay high court in the month of June to ban this websites

According to the expert current size of this new industry is around $150 million and it’s growing every year. online games have become big business in India gambling has become one of the most popular and lucrative businesses. online games are attracting 75% of youth mainly male. under a COVID 19 lockdown, major youths are turning in to an online gambling business. youths are addicted to various online games such as lottery, racing, batting, casino, rummy and poker. many Indian companies teen patti, ultimate teen patti occupied top 10 ranks in the world. many online gaming sites are organizing an annual game tournaments legal age for this online gaming site is 18 years but there are no checks either the player is 18 years or minor.many are using a fake ID for registration, but there is no government track on its.

Beside government do not have a control on online gaming . ankur dewani who is running pokers india online gaming site has a case against him under section 363, 364(a), 511of the IPC.

He has assaulted a taxi driver and police constable in juhu area as well as another kidnapping case is also against him.

Meanwhile online gaming websites terms and conditions about users from a particular territory are not allowed to access or play. Yet the websites don’t prohibit any users.

Now the activist and lawyer Balakrishna is going to file PIl in Bombay high court to ban all online games websites

Balakrishna says There are several websites like Ladbrokes on which you can bet on cricket, football with impunity. Many Indian bookies are betting on these sites on behalf of thousands of benami clients and making huge profits. There is no police check on this.

As for poker, rummy etc many are Chinese and huge amounts are bet on them. Law enforcement is non existent in this area.

So I will file a PIl in Bombay high court in the month of June after the lockdown 3.0 is over.
