ONGC, Oil India Sign MoU for Joint Oil and Gas Exploration

NEW DELHI. Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited and Oil India Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding at India Energy Week 2026 in Goa to explore opportunities for collaboration in oil and gas exploration. The agreement, signed by senior officials of both companies, provides a framework for technical cooperation and evaluation of joint participation in exploration activities, particularly under the Open Acreage Licensing Policy Round X and future bid rounds across Indian sedimentary basins. Officials said the partnership will combine the expertise of both PSUs to improve exploration efficiency and contribute to strengthening India’s energy security.

The agreement was formally inked by Shri Dinesh Singh, Chief General Manager (Geology), ONGC, and Shri D. S. Manral, Executive Director (E&D), OIL.

The agreement enables 600 KTPA of ethane terminalling and handling at PLL’s upcoming Dahej facilities, boosting India’s ethane import capacity and ensuring a reliable long-term feedstock supply for OPaL’s petrochemical complex at Dahej. This strategic partnership enhances the availability of affordable petrochemicals in the country and underscores ONGC’s commitment to strengthening its position as an integrated energy major across the global energy value chain.

Govt Extends ONGC Chief’s Tenure

NEW DELHI. The Government of India has granted a one-year extension to ONGC Chairman Arun Kumar Singh, extending his term until December 6, 2026. The decision comes just a week before the completion of his current three-year tenure. Shri Singh, a former BPCL CMD and seasoned energy sector professional, was originally appointed under relaxed age norms—an unusual move for the leadership of a major public sector enterprise.

Alongside the extension, the government has initiated the process to find his long-term successor. A three-member Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) has been constituted, headed by PESB Chairperson Mallika Srinivasan. Newly appointed Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal will serve as a member, while former IOCL Chairman B. Ashok has been included as an outside expert of eminence.
