NTPC won the Gold Award in the category of “Excellence in Employee Feedback & Engagement Initiatives”, recognising the organization’s robust mechanisms for listening to employees’ voices, fostering engagement, and strengthening trust across the workforce.

The Silver Award was received in the category of “Excellence in Creating a Culture of Continuous Learning and Upskilling – Large Scale Organizations”, acknowledging NTPC’s sustained efforts in capability building, learning agility, and future-ready skill development at scale.

The awards were received by Ms. Rachana Singh Bhal, ED (Strategic HR & Talent Management), Shri Chandramauli S Jangbahadur, GM (HR-COE), Shri Anil Kumar Chawla, GM (PMI), and other officials from NTPC, at a glittering ceremony held at The Leela Ambience, Gurugram, on 19.02.2026.

All nominated entries were reviewed by an eminent jury comprising industry leaders. The finalists in each category were then required to present before the assigned jury for determination of the top 3 positions. To make the entire process more credible, Ernst & Young (EY) was appointed as the “Official Tabulators” for the event.

Through structured feedback systems, employee-centric engagement platforms, and comprehensive learning and upskilling initiatives, NTPC has consistently invested in nurturing talent and building leadership capabilities across all levels. The awards highlight NTPC’s belief that sustainable growth and high performance are outcomes of a strong people-first culture.

MUMBAI. IIT Bombay and NTPC have achieved a major milestone in India’s carbon
capture efforts by successfully drilling the country’s first geological CO₂ storage well
at Pakri Barwadih in Jharkhand. The collaboration, initiated under NITI Aayog in
November 2022, has also led to the creation of India’s first geological CO₂ storage
atlas, assessing storage feasibility across four major coalfields. The first well was
drilled to a depth of 1,200 metres and completed on November 15, 2022, while
drilling of a second well commenced on December 21, 2022, marking progress
toward field-level deployment of carbon storage technologies.
Highlighting the significance of the achievement, Dr. V.K. Saraswat underlined the
role of carbon capture, utilization, and storage in meeting India’s net-zero targets,
stressing the importance of accurate subsurface characterization and monitoring.
NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Gurdeep Singh described the project as a
key step in India’s decarbonization journey, while IIT Bombay Director Prof.
Shireesh Kedare emphasized the value of translational research in enabling the
energy transition. Initial studies indicate high CO₂ storage potential in the North
Karanpura coalfield, particularly the Pakri-Barwadih block, with the capacity to
inject up to 15.5 million tonnes over a decade, supporting India’s broader mission
to scale up CCUS technologies through multi-ministerial collaboration.

NTPC has been honored with the prestigious IGBC Green Champion Award in the category “Organisation Leading the Net Zero Building Movement in India” at the CII–IGBC Green Building Congress 2025. The award was received by Shri Tapan Kumar Bandyopadhyay, Executive Director (SSEA), NTPC, from Mr. B Thiagarajan, Chairman of IGBC, and Mr. Jeff Oatman, Chairman of the Asia Pacific Network at the World Green Building Council. This accolade highlights NTPC’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and its proactive efforts to set green, net-zero benchmarks across its facilities nationwide. The recognition underscores NTPC’s leadership in transforming infrastructure into models of energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, aligning with India’s national climate action and sustainable development goals. Notably, last year, NTPC achieved key milestones including Net Zero Water certification for Ratnagiri township and Net Zero Energy certifications for Kudgi township and the NETRA office, demonstrating its strategic focus on integrating sustainable practices.
