NTPC Kanti (Muzaffarpur Thermal Power Station) has won the India CSR Award 2025 for its impactful initiative “Skill as a Catalyst for Women’s Empowerment in Bihar.” Recognised at the 16th India CSR Summit in New Delhi, the programme has trained 1,480 rural women across nine income-generating trades, including bakery, pickle and papad making, sewing, beautician skills, beekeeping, mushroom cultivation, and nutrition gardening. With 900 households developing nutri-gardens, the initiative strengthens both livelihoods and health. Designed to suit local needs and home-based work, the CSR model promotes financial independence, entrepreneurship, and gender equality. Its scalable and sustainable approach has inspired similar programmes across other NTPC units, reinforcing NTPC’s commitment to inclusive, community-focused development.

NTPC Kanti launched innovative mobile medical unit to enhance child healthcare

NTPC Kanti proudly announces the launch of a pioneering Mobile Medical Unit, a significant stride towards improving maternal and child healthcare in the region. This groundbreaking initiative is the first of its kind at NTPC’s Muzaffarpur-based power plant, which generates 390 MW at Kanti. It underscores NTPC’s steadfast commitment to community welfare through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.

The newly inaugurated Mobile Medical Unit is designed to provide essential healthcare services to 42 villages surrounding NTPC Kanti, directly benefiting approximately 10,000 villagers. The unit is fully equipped and staffed by a highly skilled healthcare team, including two doctors (one male and one female), a nurse, two paramedical staff, and a dedicated driver. This initiative aims to address critical healthcare needs and improve health outcomes for mothers and children in these underserved communities. The mobile medical unit will look after pregnant women and newborn babies.

Shri Madhu S., Head of Project at NTPC Kanti, remarked, “The launch of this Mobile Medical Unit is a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to support the health needs of our local communities. NTPC Kanti has been honoured with the Gold Award in CSR Excellence by APEX India. The award was presented to Sanjay Jaiswal, Senior Manager (HR) on behalf of NTPC Kanti at an event held in Delhi recently.

NTPC Kanti has been actively involved in empowering the community through various initiatives such as bakery training, Lac bangle training, mushroom training, Honey bee training, and more, benefiting over 500 women to date. Additionally, NTPC Kanti has distributed approximately 200 tricycles to physically handicapped individuals, enhancing their mobility and independence

NTPC Kanti Contributes Significantly to the Development of Bihar

NTPC Kant Project Head Madhu S, shines lauded Kanti’s outstanding production performance, notably achieving 208 consecutive days of uninterrupted electricity production. The station met its MOU target and surpassed ash utilization standards. Socially, Kanti conducts medical camps, empowers girls through education, and offers skill development programs. The organization recently sent 30 students for employment training.

NTPC Kanti is not only excelling in its commercial endeavors but is also actively contributing to the development of the region through its corporate social responsibility initiatives. This was highlighted by Project Head Madhu S during a press conference held at NTPC Kanti on Wednesday.

NTPC Kanti Unit 3 has achieved a remarkable record of 208 consecutive days of uninterrupted electricity production as of 31-10-2023, surpassing its previous best of 197 days. The Project Head underscored that operational efficiency is a hallmark of the Kanti station, which has already produced 2991.94 megawatts of electricity in the fiscal year 2023-24, meeting the MOU target. Additionally, achieving an increase in ash utilization from the standard 100% to 119% is a significant milestone for NTPC Kanti.

NTPC Kanti’ has conducted weekly medical camps in surrounding villages, benefiting nearly 3615 villagers to date. Recognizing the importance of modern education and digital skills, NTPC Kanti has launched a Girl Empowerment Campaign to empower 40 girls annually through residential training programs. Moreover, wellness initiatives have been introduced in local schools to promote student empowerment. NTPC Kanti has also initiated various training programs such as bakery training, papad-making, and pickle-making to foster women’s empowerment and economic independence.

Madhu further announced that 30 students were sent for employment and skill development training at the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology in Hajipur, with potential placements expected next month.
