NTPC Limited Bongaigaon Launches Disha Classes 2026 to Empower Local Youth

BONGAIGAON. NTPC Bongaigaon has launched the 2026 batch of Disha Classes under its employee-led e-VOICE initiative and CSR programme, reaffirming its commitment to community development and youth empowerment. Started in 2019, the initiative prepares students from nearby areas for state and central competitive examinations, particularly for recruitment in police and armed forces. The new batch commenced on 17 February 2026 with around 45 students, supported by NTPC employees and the CISF unit. General Manager Anurag Gupta emphasised discipline and dedication, while HR Head Amit Kumar Asthana highlighted NTPC’s vision of inclusive growth. CISF Dy Commandant Ashish Kumar encouraged students to stay focused and physically fit. Over the past seven years, more than 21 local youth have secured employment in armed forces through this initiative.

NTPC Bongaigaon Organises Anand Mela Showcasing Culture, Music and Local Enterprise

GUWAHATI. NTPC Bongaigaon, in association with the Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, organised a two-day Anand Mela on February 1 and 2, 2026, celebrating Assam’s rich musical and cultural heritage under the theme “Junaki Mon”.

The event was inaugurated by Shri Arindam Sinha, Regional Executive Director (ER-II and SR), NTPC Limited, in the presence of senior officials and representatives of women’s welfare bodies. The mela brought together culture, community participation, and entrepreneurship, featuring over 30 stalls showcasing traditional cuisine, ethnic handicrafts, handlooms, organic products, and eco-friendly innovations from across the North East.

Interactive attractions inspired by Assamese music, including installations honouring musical icon Zubeen Garg, emerged as major highlights, alongside cultural performances by troupes from the Bodoland Territorial Region and other parts of the North East.

The mela also reflected NTPC Bongaigaon’s commitment to social responsibility, with the distribution of educational kits and winter wear to 48 girls under the Girl Empowerment Mission. The initiative reinforced NTPC’s focus on employee engagement, community connect, and promotion of local culture and sustainable livelihoods.

Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, in the presence of Smt. Kasturi Maitra, President, Bardwi Shikla Ladies Club, distributed more than 100 educational kits to the students. Bongaigaon: NTPC Bongaigaon organised an awareness session on the New Labour Laws for Engineers-in-Charge, contract workers and Heads of Departments to enhance understanding of recent statutory reforms and strengthen workplace compliance. The session was addressed by Ms. Parineeta, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Guwahati, who explained key provisions of the new labour codes and their implications for employers, contractors and workers, stressing fair labour practices, safety, welfare measures and shared responsibility.

BONGAIGAON. NTPC Bongaigaon has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Seva Bharati Purbanchal to implement a Mobile Science Lab Project across 60 government schools in Bongaigaon, Chirang and Kokrajhar districts, with a CSR outlay of Rs 57.88 lakh. The initiative aims to enhance science education in remote and underserved areas by deploying fully equipped mobile laboratory vans stocked with scientific instruments, demonstration kits and digital teaching tools. These mobile labs will offer students hands-on learning experiences in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and renewable energy, supported by trained instructors, IEC materials and structured capacity-building activities.

During the signing ceremony, senior representatives from NTPC Bongaigaon and Seva Bharati Purbanchal highlighted the project’s role in strengthening the local education ecosystem and promoting STEM learning. Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, noted that the initiative reflects NTPC’s long-term commitment to fostering scientific curiosity and nurturing future-ready talent in the region. Implemented over one year, the project will follow rigorous monitoring and reporting mechanisms, with NTPC conducting periodic reviews and site visits to ensure transparency, accountability and impactful delivery of outcomes.

BONGAIGAON. NTPC Bongaigaon joined the rest of the country in observing the National Energy Conservation Day at the plant premises. Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project NTPC Bongaigaon took the pledge of conservation on the occasion in the presence of Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), in the presence of Shri Pravin Kumar Sahu, AGM (EEMG) and senior officials of EEMG Deptt and employees of the station.

Shri Maitra also led a walkathon in the township which highlighted the use of energy judiciously in everyday life, ensuring zero wastage and spreading awareness about the importance of energy conservation for a healthy environment and sustainable future. Energy conservation is an important factor in lessening climate change. It helps the replacement of non-renewable resources with renewable energy. Energy conservation is frequently the most cost-effective solution to energy shortages, as well as a more ecologically friendly option than increasing energy output. Various activities like painting, essay competition, slogan are being organized for employees, family members and children of the township.

In India, National Energy Conservation Day is observed every year on 14th December to raise awareness about the significance of energy and the need of conserving energy by using less energy.

The award was presented during the Apex India National Summit on Safety, Quality and HR Leadership held in Udaipur. Shri Rajeev Ranjan, AGM (Safety), received the award on behalf of the station from Princess Jahnavi Kumari Mewar, Major General (Retd.) P. K. NTPC Bongaigaon has dedicated a newly developed Kitchen and Multi-Purpose Hall to the inmates of Kokrajhar District Jail, strengthening rehabilitation facilities under its CSR initiative. The facility was inaugurated by Smt. Masanda M. Pertin, IAS, District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, in the presence of Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, along with officials from the district administration and NTPC. Developed in alignment with the Assam Government’s ‘Karagar se Karigar’ programme, the new infrastructure aims to support vocational training, skill development, and reformation activities that help inmates reintegrate into society.
