KOKRAJHAR — NTPC Bongaigaon has hit a historic streak in operational efficiency, headlined by Unit-1’s remarkable 433 days of continuous operation and a surge in sustainable resource management. During its Annual Press Meet, the station reaffirmed its role as a cornerstone of nation-building, balancing massive power generation with an ambitious green footprint and community-centric development across the North-East.

Powering the North-East: Operational Milestones

Addressing the media, Shri Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, highlighted that the 750 MW (3×250 MW) station remains the energy lifeline for Assam and neighboring states. In the current fiscal year (FY 2025–26), the plant has already generated 4,110 Million Units (MU) of electricity.

Key performance indicators include:

* Declared Capacity: 93.72%, reflecting superior plant maintenance.
* Plant Load Factor (PLF): 65.43%, optimized for grid demand.
* Water Efficiency: Achieved its best-ever Specific Water Consumption of 2.50 L/kWh.
* Waste Management: A record-breaking 170% ash utilization, including a single-day peak of 14,737.83 MT.

A Greener Legacy

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword at NTPC Bongaigaon; it is a measurable metric. Since its inception, the station has planted over 13 lakh trees, with 50,000 saplings added in the current fiscal year alone. These efforts are drastically enhancing the ecological balance of the BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region).

Transforming Lives Through CSR and Healthcare

Beyond the grid, the station’s Social Responsibility initiatives have touched over 3 lakh beneficiaries across the North-East. Shri Maitra detailed a healthcare revolution in the region, including the development of specialized Burn HDUs, Eye OTs, and Early Intervention Centres at Kokrajhar Medical College. From supporting ALS ambulances to providing nutritional aid to TB patients under the Nikshay Mitra scheme, the station is filling critical gaps in rural health infrastructure.

Empowering the Future: Education and Skill Development

NTPC Bongaigaon is actively bridging the digital and educational divide through:

Innovation: Establishing Mobile Science Labs and Education Space Labs in the BTR.
Digital Literacy: Launching smart classrooms and district-wide digital centers.
Livelihood: The Lakhpati Baideu program and the promotion of Eri silk are driving women’s financial independence.
Girl Power: The flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) is expanding, with 50 girls set to enroll in 2026—a 25% increase from the previous year—focusing on holistic personality development and education.

Strengthening the Social Fabric

The station’s commitment extends to the playing field, where it supports the Durand Cup and Sansad Khel Mahotsav, alongside developing rural sports infrastructure for budding athletes. Senior officials, including Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), and Shri Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, joined the meet, emphasizing that every megawatt generated is matched by a commitment to the people of the North-East.

Senior officials including Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), Shri Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, Shri Om Narayan Singh, AGM (C&M), Dr. Deepayan Paul, CMO, Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, AGM (Civil Erection), Shri Tapas Barman, DGM (AHD), along with officials from various departments, were present during the press meet. The press conference was attended by media representatives from print, electronic and digital platforms.
