NLCIL Partners with NPTI to Launch Skill Development Programme for Youth

SINGRAOULI. NLC India Limited (NLCIL), signed an MoU with the National Power Training Institute (NPTI), an apex training body under the Ministry of Power, on February 25, 2026, at Neyveli as part of its CSR initiative.

The agreement was signed by A.K.R. Saravanabhavan, Unit Head (Learning & Development), NLCIL, and S. Amirthavalli, Director, NPTI, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

The collaboration will offer a one-year, job-oriented Post-Diploma course in Power Plant Engineering for Project Affected Persons and unemployed youth of Cuddalore district, enhancing employability and supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

NEW DELHI. The National Power Training Institute (NPTI) bid farewell to Shri R. P. Goyal, CMD of NHPC and Director (Finance) of NPTI, on his superannuation, in a ceremony hosted by Dr. Tripta Thakur, Director General of NPTI, and attended by officers and employees who expressed their gratitude for his contributions. With over 36 years of service at NHPC, Shri Goyal, a member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and a Master’s in Commerce from the University of Rajasthan, played a key role in driving financial and operational excellence at NHPC and its subsidiaries. Since assuming charge of NPTI as Director (Finance) in 2021, his leadership, professionalism, and vision have significantly strengthened the organization, leaving a lasting legacy in the power sector.

IIM Nagpur and NPTI Collaborate to Address Energy Sector Skill Gap

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur and the National Power Training Institute (NPTI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop programs aimed at addressing skill shortages in India’s energy and power sectors.

The MoU was signed by Dr. Bhimaraya Metri and Dr. Tripta Thakur in the presence of senior officials from both institutions, including Prof. Nikunj Kumar Jain from IIM Nagpur and Dr. Indu Maheshwari, Principal Director at NPTI Nagpur.

This strategic collaboration aims to enhance the energy sector’s workforce capabilities, fostering innovation and sustainable growth through research-driven initiatives.

IIM Nagpur Signs MoU with NPTI for Strategic Partnership

Nagpur, January 17, 2024 | The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur signed a MoU with the National Power Training Institute (NPTI) today as part of an initiative for a strategic partnership to achieve bigger goals. ‘It is a significant step toward addressing the growing need for energy and power management expertise, said Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Nagpur.

This MoU on several key initiatives includes Joint Executive Training Programmes tailored for senior professionals with specialized energy management and power policy training, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate industry challenges. It will also focus on the Skilling Programmes to develop individuals’ energy and power sector skillsets. They will focus on enhancing technical and managerial competencies.

Furthermore, ‘Consultancy is another crucial factor. This partnership will engage in policy and regulatory research, offering consultancy services to stakeholders and contributing to developing more efficient energy policies.

Prof. Nikunj Kumar Jain, Associate Professor at IIM Nagpur, said, ‘This collaboration will help bridge the skill gap in India’s power sector, promote innovation, and foster sustainable growth in energy management and policy development.’

The two institutions aim to equip energy professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the dynamic energy sector by collaborating on developing both short-term and long-term academic programmes.

Shri Alok Kumar, Former Power Secretary Government of India, Public Policy , Infrastructure, Energy Transition, Electricity Regulation,addressed 112 new entrants to NTPC, THDC and NHPC as Chief Guest in inaugural of 13th Foundation Course by NPTI ai IIT Roorkee facility in Greater Noida recently .

This is a new system put in place by Ministry of Power last year to expose all the new entrants to overall perspective of power sector and also energy. Shri Alok Kumar said that electricity sector will grow four times upto year 2047, share going up from 20% to 40% in energy supply which itself will grow by 2.1 times. Electricity will transform with about 85% capacity from renewables requiring unimaginable flexibility and storage and major investment from private sector

This collaboration Between NLCIL & NPTI is to provide job oriented Post-Diploma Courses and Post-Graduate Diploma Courses of one year duration in Power Plant Engineering to 50 numbers of Project Affected Persons (PAPs) of NLCIL operating areas in Neyveli and for the deserved unemployed youth of Tamil Nadu. This training course will pave a way for the candidates to get employment opportunities in premier companies.
