More than 2,000 local children currently benefit from these centers, where they receive essential supplementary education alongside two nutritious meals every day. To ensure no child is left behind, each student undergoes a foundational assessment to evaluate their individual learning abilities, allowing teachers to deliver lessons at a personalized pace that helps first-generation learners overcome hesitation and build authentic curiosity.

The daily routine at these centers integrates sports, yoga, storytelling, painting, handicrafts, and moral education to help children build vital life skills, discipline, and confidence. A key objective of the initiative is to rigorously prepare these young minds for competitive entrance examinations to secure admission into prestigious government residential institutions like Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Eklavya Model Residential School, and Kanya Shiksha Parisar, which provide high-quality education up to Class 12 for underprivileged families.

The real-world impact of this movement is beautifully reflected in the rising success stories of children like Sunita Devi from Jamthiva Kutir, Vikas Baiga from Harijan Basti, and Neelam Devi from Sinduriya Tola. Before joining the center, these children faced difficult social circumstances, spending their days grazing cattle or performing household chores with little room to dream beyond their immediate realities. Through regular learning, steady emotional support, and constant encouragement from dedicated teachers, all three children recently cleared the highly competitive entrance examination for the prestigious Eklavya Model Residential School.

This momentum is rapidly growing across the region, showcasing a scalable model of social empowerment. In December last year, 89 students from various Seva Kutir centers appeared for the Navodaya Vidyalaya entrance exam, closely guided by mentors who assisted with everything from application forms to final preparations, while another 131 children were registered for Eklavya school admissions. Shri Sairam, who is currently serving as CMD of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), will assume charge as CMD of Coal India Limited. His tenure will extend up to 31 March 2028.

Before his appointment as CMD of NCL, he served as Director (Technical) at the Ranchi-based Central Coalfields, where he played a pivotal role in developing coal logistics, First Mile Connectivity projects, Forest & Environment Clearances, and the projectising of greenfield and brownfield mines.

“Sairam has been instrumental in community development initiatives during his stint as Executive Director at CIL. In NCL, his leadership and technical acumen led to projectisation, structuring of project financing, and developing a compensation and R&R framework for shifting of urban township- considered as the largest mining rehabilitation & resettlement programme- for Jayant expansion project,” CIL added.

The decision has been conveyed by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) through the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Government of India. Copies of the order have been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretariat, and other concerned authorities for information and necessary action.

The appointment is expected to provide leadership continuity at Coal India Limited, the country’s largest coal producer and a key contributor to India’s energy security.
