NHPC signs PPA with TSECL for 1,720 MW Kamala hydro project

NEW DELHI. NHPC Limited has signed a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) for power from the 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The agreement was signed , during Destination Tripura: Business Conclave 2026. The project will be developed on the Kamala River with a 216 m high concrete gravity dam and an underground powerhouse. It is expected to generate 6,869.92 million units annually at a current estimated cost of Rs 26,069.50 crore.

NEW DELHI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated NHPC’s 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan, in the presence of state and central dignitaries including Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Highlighting the project as a milestone for India’s energy security, the Prime Minister praised Rajasthan’s rising status as a clean energy hub.

The solar plant was developed under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat initiative using approximately 7.75 lakh domestically manufactured solar cells and modules. It is projected to generate about 75 crore units of clean electricity annually, offsetting nearly 6.4 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Expressing gratitude to all stakeholders, NHPC CMD Bhupender Gupta reaffirmed the premier power company’s dedication to expanding its green energy footprint, noting that the project has also boosted the local economy by creating employment opportunities for over 40 local residents in the remote region.

JAIPUR. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated NHPC’s 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Built under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat initiative using 7.75 lakh domestic solar modules, the mega project significantly strengthens India’s energy security and environmental sustainability. The plant is engineered to generate 75 crore units of clean electricity annually while cutting down carbon emissions by 6.4 lakh tonnes each year. NHPC CMD Bhupender Gupta expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders and highlighted that the plant successfully expands their green footprint while boosting the local economy by providing direct employment to residents in the remote region.

Simultaneously, the historic occasion marked major milestones for the 1000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project, which has been developed by SJVN through its renewable energy arm, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Developed with an investment of approximately 5,492 crore across nearly 5,000 acres, this project stands as India’s largest single EPC solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement category at a single location, showcasing world-class renewable energy infrastructure built entirely on indigenous capabilities. The project is estimated to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions over its operational life, making a substantial contribution toward India’s climate action commitments.

The mega event was graced by the Governor of Rajasthan, Sh. Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Sh. Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, Sh. Manohar Lal, and Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sh. Hardeep Singh Puri. The virtual launch was also joined by top leadership including SJVN Director of Personnel Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director of Finance Sh. Parthajit De, Director of Projects Sh. Rajesh Kumar Chandel, CVO Sh. Pankaj Porwal, CEO of SGEL Sh. Prashant Sharma, and other senior officials. Beyond clean energy generation, these projects have contributed meaningfully to regional socio-economic development, generating more than 2,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities during construction and continuing to support local livelihoods during the operational phase.

NHPC Launches National Essay Writing Competition on Hydropower

NHPC Limited has launched a National Essay Writing Competition on the MyGov platform on the theme “Role of Hydro Power in Building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.” The competition invites participants to share their perspectives on the contribution of hydropower to India’s energy security, sustainable development, and nation-building. The top 30 winners will receive digital certificates and a special invitation from the Ministry of Defence to witness the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort in New Delhi on August 15, 2026. Participants are encouraged to review the competition guidelines before submitting their entries.

DPE Secretary Reviews Annual MoU Targets with Power Sector CPSEs

The Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), chaired the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) meeting to finalize the annual Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) targets for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Power. The meeting was attended by senior representatives of the Ministry of Power and leading power sector CPSEs, including NTPC Limited, NHPC Limited, SJVN Limited and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid). During the meeting, the participants reviewed and discussed the proposed performance targets and operational benchmarks for the financial year, aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability and overall performance of the public sector enterprises.

NHPC and UPPCL Sign 40-Year Power Purchase Agreement for Dulhasti Stage-II Project

NHPC Limited and the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited have signed a Power Purchase Agreement in Lucknow for electricity generated by the 260 MW Dulhasti Stage-II Hydroelectric Project, located in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The long-term agreement ensures a reliable supply of power to Uttar Pradesh for a period of 40 years, commencing from the project’s commercial operation date. The contract was formally signed by the General Manager of Commercial at NHPC and the Chief Engineer of PPA at UPPCL, with senior organizational officials in attendance.

NHPC Commissions 250 MW Unit at Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project

NHPC Limited has announced the commercial commissioning of Unit-3 with a capacity of 250 MW at its flagship 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, located on the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border. The company said commercial operations of the unit commenced from 00:00 hours on February 1, 2026, in accordance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.

NEW DELHI. NHPC Limited successfully synchronised the second unit of 250 MW (Unit–3) of its 8×250 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHEP) with the National Grid at 9:00 PM on 21.01.2026.

On the occasion, Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC conveyed his gratitude to the various govt agencies of Govt of India the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam .

The Subansiri Lower HEP will be India’s largest hydroelectric project, supporting national energy requirements .
