NHPC Inaugurates 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Rajasthan

NEW DELHI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated NHPC’s 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan, in the presence of state and central dignitaries including Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Highlighting the project as a milestone for India’s energy security, the Prime Minister praised Rajasthan’s rising status as a clean energy hub.

The solar plant was developed under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat initiative using approximately 7.75 lakh domestically manufactured solar cells and modules. It is projected to generate about 75 crore units of clean electricity annually, offsetting nearly 6.4 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Expressing gratitude to all stakeholders, NHPC CMD Bhupender Gupta reaffirmed the premier power company’s dedication to expanding its green energy footprint, noting that the project has also boosted the local economy by creating employment opportunities for over 40 local residents in the remote region.

Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, visited the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project in Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir, on 1 December 2025 to review the ongoing civil, hydro-mechanical, and electro-mechanical works. The project, being developed by Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited—a joint venture of NHPC and JKSPDC—was showcased in detail by Shri M.K. Kashyap, CEO, Ratle HPCL, who briefed the CMD on construction progress, key issues, and project challenges. Shri Ramesh Mukhiya, Managing Director (CVPPL), along with senior officers from Ratle HPCL, also accompanied the CMD during the site review.

Shri Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, inaugurated a Free Multi-Specialty Health Camp on 19.11.2025 at NHPC’s Corporate Office in Faridabad, in the presence of Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), and Shri Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical). Organized in collaboration with Max Healthcare Institute Limited, New Delhi, the camp provided free consultations across specialties including Gastroenterology, Gynaecology, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Eye Care, ENT, and Dental Care, along with diagnostic services such as blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring, BMD, PFT, and Audiometry. Shri Gupta appreciated the initiative, emphasizing its value in promoting employee well-being and supporting families in building a healthier future. A total of 155 beneficiaries—including employees, contract workers, security personnel, dependents, and other staff—availed the services offered.

Bhupender Gupta Appointed as New CMD of NHPC

The government has approved the appointment of Bhupender Gupta as the new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited. Currently serving as Director (Technical) at THDC India Limited and holding additional charge as CMD at SJVN since May, Gupta brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
