Bengaluru, 9 August 2024: NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), is pleased to announce a landmark achievment of surpassing 100,000 cross-border Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Person-to-Merchant (P2M) transactions in Nepal. NIPL collaborated with Fonepay, Nepal’s largest payment network, to launch the cross-border P2M UPI acceptance in March 2024. This milestone signifies a new era of digital payment connectivity and collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.

UPI is India’s popular mobile-based real-time payment system, which enables instant personal and merchant payments. The introduction of UPI has simplified payments for Indians travelling to Nepal. Furthermore, Nepali travellers to India can also experience UPI payments now via  UPI One World. Visitors can use the UPI One World app to make payments at merchant locations by simply scanning the QR codes, making it easier for them to explore India’s rich culture, cuisine, and many diverse experiences.

NPCI International spokesperson, said, “We are happy  with the positive feedback  received since the introduction of UPI merchant acceptance in Nepal. This milestone is a testament to our commitment to simplifying cross-border transactions between the two nations and enabling new avenues for trade and commerce. Given that Indians constitute the largest number of visitors to Nepal, we expect continued growth in UPI transactions. Furthermore, we believe this initiative will contribute significantly to the economic development of both the countries.”

UPI is currently accepted in Bhutan, France (Eiffel Tower – Online, Galeries Lafayette), Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and UAE. It is one of the largest real-time payments platform globally. As per a recent ACI Worldwide report, 49% of the worlds real-time payments were made in India in 2023.

NIPL has also collaborated with Nepal SBI Bank Limited (NSBL), to operationalise RuPay cards in Nepal. RuPay is a global card payment network from India with wide acceptance at ATMs, POS devices and ecommerce website.

The Committee has also accorded Ex-post facto approval for Special Purpose Vehicle SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company Private Limited (SLPDC), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN incorporated in Nepal for implementation of LAHEP. In addition to this, the Committee has also approved the equity investment of Rs.1737.70 crores in SLPDC.

The 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project with four units of 167.25 MW each, is located downstream of 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project on river Arun in Sankhuwasabha district of the province-1 in Nepal. A tail race development of Arun3 HEP, the project will not have any reservoir or dam and will operate as a Tandem Operation System with Arun-3 HEP. This project is designed to generate 2900 million units of energy annually.

शिव को बेलपत्र चढ़ाने की कथा माता पार्वती से जुड़ी है. करते हैं कि भगवान शिव को पति रूप में पाने के लिए माता पार्वती ने कठोर तपस्या की थी. साथ ही उन्होंने कई व्रत किए थे. एक बार भगवान शिव बेलपत्र वृक्ष के नीचे बैठकर तपस्या कर रहे थे. माता पार्वती जब शिव पूजा के लिए सामग्री लाना भूल गई तो उन्होंने वृक्ष के नीचे गिरे हुए बेलपत्र से शिव को ढक दिया. जिससे भगवान शिव बहुत अधिक प्रसन्न हुए. तब से शिवजी को बेलपत्र चढ़ाने की परंपरा है.

महाशिवरात्रि भारतीयों का एक प्रमुख त्यौहार है। यह भगवान शिव का प्रमुख पर्व है। फाल्गुन कृष्ण चतुर्दशी को महाशिवरात्रि पर्व मनाया जाता है। माना जाता है कि सृष्टि का प्रारम्भ इसी दिन से हुआ। पौराणिक कथाओं के अनुसार इस दिन सृष्टि का आरम्भ अग्निलिंग (जो महादेव का विशालकाय स्वरूप है) के उदय से हुआ। इसी दिन भगवान शिव का विवाह देवी पार्वती के साथ हुआ था। साल में होने वाली 12 शिवरात्रियों में से महाशिवरात्रि को सबसे महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है|भारत सहित पूरी दुनिया में महाशिवरात्रि का पावन पर्व बहुत ही उत्साह के साथ मनाया जाता है|

कश्मीरी ब्राह्मणों के लिए यह सबसे महत्वपूर्ण त्योहार है। यह शिव और पार्वती के विवाह के रूप में हर घर में मनाया जाता है। महाशिवरात्रि के उत्सव के 3-4 दिन पहले यह शुरू हो जाता है और उसके दो दिन बाद तक जारी रहता है।

महाशिवरात्रि को नेपाल में व विशेष रूप से पशुपति नाथ मंदिर में व्यापक रूप से मनाया जाता है। महाशिवरात्रि के अवसर पर काठमांडू के पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर पर भक्तजनों की भीड़ लगती है। इस अवसर पर भारत समेत विश्व के विभिन्न स्थानों से जोगी, एवम्‌ भक्तजन इस मन्दिर में आते हैं।

शिव जिनसे योग परंपरा की शुरुआत मानी जाती है को आदि (प्रथम) गुरु माना जाता है। परंपरा के अनुसार, इस रात को ग्रहों की स्थिति ऐसी होती है जिससे मानव प्रणाली में ऊर्जा की एक शक्तिशाली प्राकृतिक लहर बहती है। इसे भौतिक और आध्यात्मिक रूप से लाभकारी माना जाता है इसलिए इस रात जागरण की सलाह भी दी गयी है जिसमें शास्त्रीय संगीत और नृत्य के विभिन्न रूप में प्रशिक्षित विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से कलाकारों पूरी रात प्रदर्शन करते हैं। शिवरात्रि को महिलाओं के लिए विशेष रूप से शुभ माना जाता है। विवाहित महिलाएँ अपने पति के सुखी जीवन के लिए प्रार्थना करती हैं व अविवाहित महिलाएं भगवान शिव, जिन्हें आदर्श पति के रूप में माना जाता है जैसे पति के लिए प्रार्थना करती हैं।

A week ago, Nepal was all set for a cartographic confrontation with India when it unveiled a new political map that placed Kalapani within its border.

An understanding to tackle the situation diplomatically instead of belligerence was reached at an all-party meeting held at Baluwatar, the seat of the Nepal Government, late on Tuesday evening.

While Nepal announced that it had started printing the new political maps, the ruling party ran into problems when it sought to change the image of Nepal’s map on the coat-of-arms to incorporate the new changes.
Such a step, however, required more than an administrative decision and the ruling party realised it was short of the required two-thirds majority to amend the constitution to include Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani in the image of the map on the coat of arms.

The pro-India Nepali Congress was ambiguous at the all-party meeting and sought a meeting of its policymaking body to evaluate the issue. At least 35 members of Madhesh parties also sought their pound of flesh, forcing the ruling party’s managers to press the issue at some other opportune time.

India and Nepal re-opened their differences on a triangle of land bordering China about six months ago when New Delhi published a political map to show the change in countours of Jammu and Kashmir from a single state to two UTs of J&K and Ladakh. Nepal felt the new map seemed to have included three areas which were its territory.

The issue intensified again early this month when Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a blacktopped road to Lipulekh Pass that seemed to traverse areas New Delhi cautious on the development and sources in govt said

While there were no new deaths confirmed outside Hubei, the national tally of verified infections rose by 769, about half of them in Hubei, the National Health Commission said. It said 461 of those infected were in a serious condition.

China has sealed off Hubei in the country’s centre, an unprecedented operation affecting tens of millions of people which is intended to slow the transmission of the respiratory virus.

The end of the Lunar New Year holiday, China’s busiest travel season, was pushed back to Sunday from Friday to “effectively reduce mass gatherings” and “block the spread of the epidemic,” a Cabinet statement said. Schools will also postpone reopening until further notice, it added.

Cases have been confirmed in the semi-autonomous territories of Macau and Hong Kong, where the government is turning holiday camps into quarantine centres. South Korea confirmed its fourth case on Monday.

Scattered cases have also been confirmed in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, the United States, Vietnam, Singapore Malaysia, Nepal, France, Canada and Australia. The US has confirmed cases in Washington state, Chicago, southern California and Arizona.
