Barpeta, June 29, 2026: West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Limited (WAMUL), popularly known as Purabi Dairy, launched its high-performance premium cattle feed product, ‘Purabi Dana Supreme’, in an event held at Khorisala in Barpeta district on June 29.

The launch programme was attended by more than 250 dairy farmers, officials and dignitaries of the dairy cooperative. Officials from the District Veterinary Office, Barpeta, also addressed the farmers during the event.

The new cattle feed has been introduced under Purabi Pashu Pushti, the feed and supplements brand of Purabi Dairy. Designed at par with BIS Type-I specifications, Purabi Dana Supreme carries higher crude protein and crude fat, and is enriched with vitamins and minerals to support optimum cattle performance.

“Purabi Dana Supreme has been developed to meet the evolving nutritional needs of high-yielding cattle and to support dairy farmers in adopting scientific feed management practices. At Purabi, our focus has always been on strengthening the dairy cooperative movement by providing farmers with quality products, technical guidance and field-level support. We believe this new premium cattle feed will help farmers improve productivity, maintain better animal health and enhance their overall livelihood,” said Sameer Kumar Parida, Managing Director, WAMUL.

The launch was part of Purabi Dairy’s continuing efforts to provide improved support, products and services to dairy farmers across Assam. An animal health camp was also organised alongside the launch event, where veterinary experts from WAMUL provided advice and guidance to farmers on scientific herd management.

Purabi Dairy, managed by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has been playing an important role in strengthening the dairy cooperative movement in Assam. Its products are marketed by North East Dairy and Foods Limited (NEDFL), a joint venture between the Government of Assam and NDDB. From a small cooperative, Purabi has grown into one of eastern India’s most impactful dairy institutions, touching the lives of more than 57,000 rural farming families across Assam.

In 2021-22, WAMUL was associated with around 22 thousand dairy farmers through 485 dairy cooperative societies covering around 1,500 villages. As of March 2026, the union is associated with almost 60 thousand dairy farmers through 1,340 dairy cooperative societies covering more than 2,524 villages.

With the evolution of livestock rearing and cooperative dairying in Assam, farms in the state have become increasingly conscious of scientific animal management and feed practices. Farmers are now giving greater attention to the nutritional and healthcare requirements of their livestock, especially with the growing preference for high-yielding breeds such as Holstein Friesian, Gir and Jersey.

In 2022, with support from the Government of Assam under the RIDF scheme, WAMUL’s cattle feed plant at Changsari was re-commissioned with a capacity potential of 50 MTPD compounded cattle feed, along with a 25 MTPD bypass protein plant and a 12 MTPD mineral mixture plant.

Since the commencement of operations in 2022, WAMUL has supplied approximately 23,000 MT of cattle feed and 175 MT of mineral mixture to dairy farmers associated with Purabi at subsidised rates. Similarly, the new Purabi Dana Supreme, which is priced at an MRP of Rs 1075/ bag of 25 kg, will be available for WAMUL dairy farmers at Rs 755/ bag.

Purabi Pashu Pushti has been providing optimum nutrition solutions for dairy cattle through feed and supplement products developed under the guidance of NDDB. These products are manufactured at WAMUL’s ISO 9001:2015 certified Cattle Feed Plant located at Changsari in Kamrup district.

With the launch of Purabi Dana Supreme, Purabi Dairy aims to cater to the nutritional requirements of high-yielding cattle and further support dairy farmers in improving productivity through scientific feed management.

Purabi Dairy said it remains deeply rooted in the rural dairy community of Assam and is committed to improving the livelihoods of farmers through newer initiatives, improved products and continued field-level support.

02 February 2026, Anand: Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) hailed the Union Budget 2026-27 as truly transformative, noting its initiatives to enhance farmers’ incomes, promote entrepreneurship in animal husbandry and dairying and strengthen cooperatives – key steps toward realising the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and fostering inclusive economic growth.

Recognized as the growth engine of agriculture and allied activities providing livelihoods to rural households, the animal husbandry sector has received a significant boost in the Union Budget 2026–27, with an allocation of Rs 6,153.46 crore – up 16% from last year. The Budget also announced a Rs 500 crore Integrated Scheme for Entrepreneurship Development to expand employment through credit-linked subsidies, modernise livestock enterprises, build integrated dairy and poultry value chains and promote Livestock Farmer Producer Organisations, thereby fostering entrepreneurship and rural development.

The Budget will add 20,000 veterinary professionals and through a loan-linked subsidy scheme, support new veterinary and paravet colleges, hospitals, labs, and breeding facilities. Targeting India’s 53 crore livestock, including 30 crore dairy animals, the initiative also encourages global collaborations to drive innovation. Dr Meenesh Shah hailed it as a milestone for the sector.

In addition to the existing provision allowing full deduction of profits and gains for primary cooperative societies engaged in supplying milk, oilseeds, fruits, or vegetables raised by their members, this benefit has now been extended to cattle feed. With primary cooperatives selling about 102 lakh metric tonnes of cattle feed annually, this move will significantly reduce their tax burden, ensuring better returns for farmer members. India’s dairy cooperatives already return over 75% of the consumer rupee to producers, and this initiative will further enhance pay-outs, putting more money directly into farmers’ hands.

Chairman, NDDB welcomed the Budget move allowing inter-cooperative society dividend income as deduction under the new tax regime to the extent it is further distributed to its members, fostering investments in multistate cooperatives under Sahkar se Samriddhi. A three-year exemption on dividend income for notified national cooperative federations on their investments made in companies up to 31.01.2026, if further distributed to its members cooperatives, will further strengthen profitability and enable higher pay-outs to member institutions.

The Centralized Bio-CNG Model turns dairy waste into clean transport fuel and organic fertilizer, advancing circular economy goals. As announced in the Union Budget, the entire value of biogas while calculating the Central Excise duty payable on biogas blended CNG to be excluded which will be a major boost for scaling large Bio-CNG models nationwide, strengthening sustainability and promoting natural farming through organic fertilizer by-products.

In a nutshell, Chairman, NDDB described the Union Budget 2026–27 as one that ticks all the right boxes – providing impetus to agriculture, dairy and allied sectors, improving capital efficiency, reducing tax distortions across cooperatives and thereby boosting farmers’ incomes and employment opportunities.
