Commenting on the upcoming operations from Navi Mumbai, Aloke Singh, Managing Director, Air India Express, said, “We are excited to start flights from the new Navi Mumbai International Airport from the very first day of its opening. We are happy to work with the airport as it opens up capacity for Mumbai and its catchment area, putting one of India’s largest transport hubs back on a rapid growth trajectory. We will offer direct connectivity to Bengaluru and New Delhi, and seamless onward connections on both AIX and AI networks. Going forward, we will add more flights in a phased manner as we expand our operations at Navi Mumbai.”

Air India Express’ presence continues to grow steadily in Maharashtra, with over 130 weekly flights from Mumbai and over 90 weekly flights from Pune. Starting December 1, 2025, the airline will also launch services from Nagpur, operating twice daily flights to Bengaluru.

The new services from Navi Mumbai further complement Air India Express’ expanding network from Bengaluru, which remains one of its key hubs. The airline has recently introduced routes from Bengaluru to Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and now operates more than 530 weekly flights from the city. It also recently inaugurated direct flights from Bengaluru to Bangkok, Jeddah, Kuwait, and Riyadh.

The upgraded cabin features seats with superior padding, wider armrests, and legroom ranging from 29 to 38 inches. Each seat is equipped with in-seat USB charging ports, while the cabins feature ovens for serving hot ‘Gourmair’ meals, refreshed interiors with brand-new carpets, and advanced Boeing Sky Interior lighting, creating a modern, warm, and welcoming ambience that reflects the airline’s commitment to a comfortable and memorable flying experience.

Mumbai and its suburbs witnessed rainfall and the weather office has said, cloudy skies and moderate to heavy rainfall expected in Mumbai today also .There are chances of heavy rain in the interiors of Maharashtra as well in the next in next 48 hours.

KS Hosalikar, the Deputy Director General of Meteorology, India Met Department, Mumbai, has tweeted the amount and intensity of rainfall in Mumbai and the suburbs in the last 24 hours. Colaba, Kandivali, Borivali, Mira Road, Bhayandar, Chembur and Nerul are some of the localities that recorded very heavy rainfall.

Mumbai and around rains in last 24 hrs on 28th July.
— K S Hosalikar (@Hosalikar_KS) July 28, 2020

Mr Hosalikar also said, on August 1, Mumbai, Thane and the Konkan coast are likely to receive very heavy rainfall.

Skymetweather said isolated spells of rain might continue for the next 3 to 4 days over Mumbai and suburbs, but the overall intensity of rain would remain subdued. Parts of financial capital Mumbai, including Dadar and Hindmata areas, faced severe waterlogging following heavy rainfall in the region. This caused severe inconvenience to people who were out on the streets headed towards their work.

Meanwhile, heavy traffic congestion was seen in the Vashi area of Navi Mumbai after a spell of rain.

In Kashmir, a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora village who tested positive for the virus three days ago died this morning at the Government Chest Disease Hospital in Srinagar.

“As we share the sad news of our first COVID-19 fatality, my heart goes out to the family of the deceased. We stand with you and share your grief,” Junaid Azim Mattu, the Srinagar mayor tweeted.

“I also salute the brave doctors at Chest Disease Hospital for their efforts. Let us do our bit and help break the chain and stay home, stay safe,” he added.

Mayor of Srinagar:
“As we share the sad news of our first #Covid19 fatality, my heart goes out to the family of the deceased. We stand with you and share your grief.

I also salute the brave doctors at CD Hospital for their efforts.

Let’s do our bit and help #BreakTheChain and #StayHomeStaySafe.”

Four others who came in contact with the man who died also tested positive on Wednesday and have been quarantined, as have over 70 others, including seven doctors. The total number of active COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir is now 11.

Authorities in Kashmir have expressed apprehensions that the number of cases could be more than reported as a significant number of people appeared to have concealed their travel history.

Over 5,124 travellers and people who came in contact with suspected and positive cases have been put under surveillance. Among them 3,061 are in home quarantine (in facilities operated by the government), 80 in hospital quarantine and 1,477 under home surveillance.

However, only around 300 cases have been sent for testing so far.

In Maharashtra, the worst-hit state with more than 120 active cases, a woman from Navi Mumbai who died on March 24 tested positive for the virus today, state health officials said.

Mumbaikars are treating their eyes to clusters of pink beauties. Tabebuia trees, also known as pink trumpet trees, have flowered. Pictures of the pink-blossomed trees planted along several stretches across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, have gone viral on social media.

The trees, which are native to America, are around 25 to 30-feet tall. One of the best places to take a good look at the flowers is near Vikhroli on the Eastern Express Highway, as there are several trees planted along that road. Individual trees and tree clusters can also be spotted in Borivali, Powai, Sion, and other areas including Nerul and Belapur.

As per Jitendra Pardeshi, Superintendent, Gardens, these plants flower between December and February, in Mumbai these have flowered in March. The flowers are pink with a yellow neck and are in the shape of trumpets, from which the tree gets its name. “Mumbai has a total of 29.75 lakh trees, of which 6,580 are pink trumpets,” he said.

“A lot of people mistake these for cherry trees, which also have pink blossoms. We have been seeing these trees in Mumbai for years now, but its interesting to see the sudden interest that people have developed in them in the past few years,” said a botanist associated with a government-aided college.

Sanjay gupta said that the BMC should use social media to share more information about such flowering trees. “In fact, in every garden setup by the BMC, there should be boards with information about flowering plants and the season of flowering, so that people can enjoy seeing them in full bloom,” he said.
